Norma had went to her skin doctor and he told her that the skin graft was doing o.k. and for her to come back in three weeks, she told him that are vacation started last June but we had to wait be cause of the cancer on her face. Norma asked to come back in one week and he told her two weeks. Since she would not go back for two weeks, I was going to test out our new TT for any bugs in our new trailer before going to Canada. I wanted to go to Wekiwa Springs up north of Orlando,Florida for a few days and I asked a friend of mine if he wanted...

Mar 14, 2016 - Clarcona Horse Park

Saying goodbye to Dave and Helen in Lake Placid, Hazel and I headed North to Orlando. I'd forgotten not to take Highway 27, which is stop and go traffic most of the way, with one city not ending until the next city, and no "country" in between. Hard on the braking system and nerves. We reached the traffic jam around Disneyworld mid-afternoon, and fortunately the thousands of cars there for the start of Spring break were in the southbound lane. Before leaving, I'd called our favorite Orlando camp, Bill Frederick Park at Turkey Lake, only to...

Jun 17, 2014 - WEKIWA SPRINGS

This was our first stop going over to Melbourne , Florida , I did not want to drive over four to five hours and this state park was only about three hours away from home. We left the house about 10 a.m. and stopping for lunch we arrived around 3 p.m. at the park. After setting up the camper , we went down to the springs to check out the place and to see the area around the springs. Since it was after 6 p.m. we would get our feet wet the next day and today check out the area. We went into the springs the next day and of course the water was...

Nov 11, 2013 - Wekiwa Springs State Park

This is the start of a three week trip , camping in state forest of Florida and Osceola National Forest up near Lake City and then ending with a Thanksgiving weekend at Dade City at a bluegrass festival. We went up to Wekiwa Spring near Apopka , Florida just down the street from Orlando , Florida. A great state park for swimming in 72 degree water which was warmer then the air this time of the year. But during the summer the p[lace is packed with people cooling off from the 110 heat wave in Florida. We did walk the trails in the state park...

Jan 12, 2010 - Orange Blossum Trail RV Park

After the Southeast Sunshine Rally in Orlando, went to meet up with Ben and Betsy at Orange Blossom RV Park. Sue led us on a tour of The Villages where we had some really good ice cream. We went to Sonny's BBQ for dinner and Sue and Bob split a big combo plate. From this location we went over to Kennedy Space Center for the day. Wow, the shuttle is on the launch pad ready for blast off.

Jan 3, 2010 - Doug's Birthday

Today is Doug's birthday and he slept later than usual. When he did get up, he received a call from State College Pa and was serenaded by his daughter Susanne and her kids, Marcos and Jenna. They did that once before and since Doug didn't answer the cell, they recorded it and he kept the recording for several weeks so he could hear it over and over. It was very cold here today dipping into the 20's. This is the type of weather that killed the Florida Citrus business. What used to be orange grove is now condominiums. Doug also got calls from...

Jerry's new wife Lynda threw a big afternoon dinner to celebrate Jerry's birthday. Their new home is in Lady Lake Florida which is north of Leesburg. Joe and Soni came from Myrtle Beach. Jan 1, 2010 - Tim and Patti's Fajitas

We had heavy rains this morning followed by a precipitous drop in temperature, It is supposed to be in the 30's tonight. We drove across town to Tim's for their annual specialty: home made fajitas. Tim marinated the meat over night and Patti made tortillas from scratch as well has some delicious salsa. It was a great treat for us. JoAnn took her chocolate cheescake pie for dessert. We were able to leave most of it there. They have two dogs and so Fillmore had a blast. Upon entering the house he went directly to their toy basket and started...

Dec 31, 2009 - Avatar

We had a 45 minute drive from the northwest side of Orlando to the southeast side. We took a toll road otherwise it would have been and hour and a half ride. It cost us 4-5 dollars but certainly worth it except for the Nascar wannabies weaving in and out of traffic lanes. We met with son Tim and his wife Patty and daughter Megan at an Imax theater where we saw Avatar in 3D. It was quite an experience. Tim, being retired Air Force noticed the similarity of the movie's flying machines to stuff he'd worked on when he was in the service. Doug...

Dec 30, 2009 - Big City Traffic

Golly it was pretty here today! The sun was out and it was in the 60's or 70's. And to top that off we had no agenda. That being said, we stayed pretty busy. Doug paid bills on line and then we drove across town for JoAnn to weigh in at a Weight Watchers meeting site. She is doing well and is hoping to get her life time membership. To do that she needs to maintain her weight for 6 weeks. If she loses too much she is a bad girl and doesn't get her award. She has maintained very well through the holiday eating season. After that we chose to...

Living Our Dream

Dec 29, 2009 - Old Florida in DeLeon SP

Doug managed to sleep about 12 hours last night and as a result, we were late in getting over to Longwood to pick up Susanne and the kids. We decided to head up to Deland to go to Deleon SP for a pancake dinner and then watch the manatees near the spring. There was a sign at the entrance advising us of a 2 1/2 hour wait to get into the restaurant. It is in an old water mill building and they bring out pancake mixings and you make your own while looking out over the spring. You purchase various toppings for the pancakes separately. We...
