Mar 10, 2013 - Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance

Today was car day. After a late start (I forgot to spring forward-thanks for the reminder anyway Bob), I spent most of the day at the Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance. This was my second trip here and I never get tired of seeing these cars. They are works of art. This year's show is dedicated to Sam Posey, an American race car driver, broadcaster, and automobile writer who started in the sport in the 1960's. The show also honors the 50th anniversary of the introduction of the Porsche 911, the introduction of the 7th Generation Corvette...

Sep 2, 2012 - Amelia Island and Fort Clinch State Park

Our last day in the area was Sunday. I went to church in St Marys and then after lunch Fred and I rode the motorcycle to Florida to Amelia Island for a tour of Fort Clinch, named for General Duncan Clinch, a veteran of the Seminole and Mexican America War. Although no battles were fought here, it was garrisoned during both the Civil and Spanish-American wars....

Mar 14, 2010 - Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance

The Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance was held at the Ritz-Carlton. The weather was great and there were a couple of hundred cars there. I'll bet they were worth several million. I was hoping to see a fully retored Austin Healey to encourange me to get started on mine, but there wasn't any entered. Probably the closest was a mid-50's MGTD. There wern't too many 50's or 60's British Sports cars. Probably not expensive enough when restored. There were some really odd cars like the Da Dia, Ghia, Legat Helica and 3-heeled Davis Devin. I...

Feb 23, 2008 - We Know NOTHING About Southern Weather

So, we get ready to go out yesterday and the weather forecast is for a 30% chance of rain by 3 PM. Should we or shouldn't we go to the golf course? Thursday we went golfing even tho the prediction was for a 30% chance of rain by 3 PM. Sure enough at 3 PM the rains came. We opted to go to plan B, given our recent experiences. So, onto 95 south into FL (2 miles away). First stop is the visitor center for a glass of OJ and maps. Then to Amelia Island which is a short 15 miles from St. Mary's GA. As we proceeded with our excursion the skies...
