Oct 4, 2019 - Denver to Grand Junction, CO

October 4, 2019 I was up at 4:30 taking advantage of WiFi, packing etc. We got on the road about 9:15 and had an easy access to Hwy 70 which is then a straight shot to Grand Junction. (250 miles which is a bit long for us) Decided to listen to Doris Kern Goodwin’s Wait ‘Til Next Year. The book is about her growing up during the 1950’s on Long Island and the general American love of baseball. It really is so nostalgic. I loved baseball. I read sports section every morning, collected baseball cards, went to games (Cleveland Indians, NY...

Jul 18, 2019 - Junction West RV Park (7/16 - 7/18/19)

This is a very nice park. We are in site #36. The sites are wide and we have a shade tree by our picnic table. The ride over was a bit longer than we are used to lately, about 4 hours. We ran into a bit of traffic jam on the way. It held us up for about 25 minutes, otherwise it was an easy trip. Our friends Becky and Roy were here a while back and told us about a great place to eat, Rib City. They enjoyed it so much that they ate there twice. We had to try it our first night. It was fabulous!!!! On Wednesday we drove 18 miles over to...

Jun 13, 2019 - Country Jam... day 1

Yesterday afternoon after getting parked and setup at the KOA Grand Junction, I drove out to Mack, CO to pick up our armbands for the Country Jam. There were already hundreds of RVs parked in the sites/fields around the venue. I found the West Box Office and got our armbands and headed back to the Coach. We headed out to the Jam about 4 PM and stayed until Little Big Town played; got back to the coach about 1 AM. Very late night for us old folks. We were pleasantly surprised by the free beer, wine, cocktails and food including a catered...

Summer 2019

Jun 12, 2019 - Road to Grand Junction was Interesting!!

Well we expected an uneventful trip across I-70 to Grand Junction following the route from last Summer when we stopped at the 4 Eagle Ranch in Wolcott, CO. Well about 45 minutes we see signs saying I-70 closed, take detour via US Hwy 6 over Loveland Pass. The detour added about an hour and 15 minutes to our trip and probably a few dozen more grey hairs on Anita's head. It turned out to be a gorgeous drive, even though I did not get to see much except for when we were stopped or just barely creeping alone in traffic. The most excitement came...

Nov 8, 2018 - Vegas to Grand Junction, CO

Las Vegas, NV to Grand Junction, CO 11-8-18 Today we are starting back to Glen Haven, CO. The trip is 800 miles, 12.5 hours. We like to break that drive into two days. We usually drive to Grand Junction (515 miles, 8 hours) then over the Rockies into Glen Haven,(about 300 miles in about 6 hours, more if there is snow in the high country. Because we have a long day of driving and it looks windy, we said our good byes to Kristi and Scott and hit the road by 8:30AM. The driving was windy but otherwise the weather was excellent. The...

Over the hill to Grand Junction, CO 10-29-18 The road trip to California began today. First stop, Grand Junction, CO. First order of business was brunch with Kate in Estes Park. We noticed there was a lot of smoke this morning coming from Rocky Mountain National Park. Kate will report later on that. We were on the road shortly after noon. We needed to cover 290 miles in about six hours. The weather could not have been better. Not much snow yet in the high country. We made it into Grand Junction around 6 PM, just before dark. Perfect. Had...

Slight change in plans. Left 4 Eagle Ranch a day early, heading to Grand Junction KOA. Got parked at KOA, then headed out to scout the route to the Harley shop for our departure in the morning. Had a nice Mexican dinner, and headed back for the evening. We got up early Monday morning and headed for the Harley shop, where we could not has asked for better results. Aug 24, 2018 - Royal Gorge Bridge and Park

Shortly after I originally planned this trip I hit upon the idea of taking U.S. Route 50 through the Rockies rather than going back up to Denver to catch I-70. Since the drive was only 4.5 hours I needed an activity to fill the day and came across the Royal Gorge Bridge and Park. The park is about 60 miles west of Colorado Springs near Canon City. The original park was apparently completely destroyed, except for the bridge, in a forest fire in 2013 so everything that is there now has only been around for 4 years. The $27 general admission...

Aug 11, 2018 - Grand Junction, CO

Stopped here for a few days so that Beverly could visit with relatives. It is hot here. The surrounding mountains are in a fog due to smoke from the wildfires in California. The link to a You Tube video below was taken from our motorhome camera, westbound on I-70 past the Vail Summit. The highway is following the Colorado River through a canyon or gorge. We are on the elevated section of the highway and the eastbound traffic is below us running along the river. The video is kind of shaky because of the road condition although, we really...

Mar 7, 2018 - St George, UT to Grand Junction, CO

3-7-18 St George, UT to Grand Junction, CO Long drive today, but the weather was perfect and the scenery can’t be beat. We left around 9AM and drove pretty much straight through except a stop for gas and an occasional pit stop for the humans. We arrived at our destination shortly before 3PM for just under 6 hours driving time. Once we got to Grand Junction Julie surprised me by asking if I wanted to check out the local flying field and hobby shop. She had already input them to her phone map and directed me to both places. She wanted to kill...
