Aug 24, 2018 - motorhome work in a gold town

The first step in my motorhome was falling down! The L used to hold the step to the frame was very thin and it had bent and twisted on one side and was about ready to fall on the other! $360 and a few hours later, my steps are securely fastened and both the owner and the mechanic thought it was a shoddy job by the manufacturer. If I write a letter to my extended warranty company and complain to Thor, the owner will back me up. But will I? Probably not, although if mine was typical of their step installation, lots of people should have...

Sep 13, 2016 - It's Been An Interesting Few Days

Leaving on 9 11 probably wasn't the smartest move, looking back at it. We left pretty much on our anticipated departure time & crossed the border with no problems at 11:05 am. By 2:45 outside Seattle the attached video shows a lovely living room club chair being thrown under the bus...OUR BUS!!! The clips muted as I didn't want anyone knowing I knew that many colourful words. No place to pull over so at the next rest stop called Maytown we discover, some bumper, wheel, & body damage, none too terrible but still there & there is a gas line...

Aug 30, 2016 - Siskiyou County Museum

We visited the Siskiyou County Museum today, both the inside and outside. Both were awesome, we enjoyed the outside village with the old school and log cabins the most. The Museum was built in 1950 by the county and together the Historical Society and Museum aim to collect, preserve, disseminate, and interpret the history of the area for future...

Aug 27, 2016 - Historic Yreka & Homes

We enjoyed touring part of this awesome gold mining town today, we are both in love with the area. There is so much to see and do. It was March 1851, and gold had recently been discovered about 30 miles south of here on the Scott River. A group of six men, led by Abraham Thompson, was on its way there from Oregon and decided to camp overnight on “the flats,” about a quarter-mile from what is today downtown Yreka. Others before Thompson and his group had camped and even prospected here; gold was found but never in sufficient quantity to...

Aug 26, 2016 - Yreka, California

Today was another travel day, we drove about eighty miles to the town of Yreka. It as a beautiful drive over Mt. Ashland and the Siskiyou Summit, this is the highest elevation on Interstate 5 at 4,310 feet. It was slow climbing up before flying back down fast with the 6% grade. :-) We had beautiful views of the Klamath River and Mt. Shasta all covered with snow. We will be staying in Yreka for about a week. Yreka (wy-ree-ka) is a beautiful and unique small town located just south of the Oregon border in California. Yreka was founded during...

Nov 28, 2014 - Going South

The day after Thanksgiving we departed Eugene saying "goodbye" to family, son, brothers, sisters, and nieces. The past 10 days went fast, too fast. But, now it's time to head south out of the rain and toward warmer climes. Once again we packed up and hitched up in the rain, getting a very late start. Having traveled 220 miles, south on I-5, we landed at the Waiiaka RV park in Yreka, California. It was a nice little place for an overnight. After a good nights sleep, we left the next morning about 8:30 a.m.

Jun 17, 2013 - Travel day - Susanville, CA to Yreka, CA

The travel day was filled with no rain but winds at the end of the trip. It was also filled with steep downhill grades, curves and small two lane roads. It was a stressful day for Ken due to the two lanes and 6% grades and curves, but we made it safely to Yreka. Very happy to be at a park that the people are pleasant. Enjoy the pictures ........... Until the next time ...... have fun and stay safe. God Bless Ken and Fran

May 29, 2012 - Yreka (Not to be confused with Eureka)

Yreka is famous as the setting for the State of Jefferson. It started when Mayor Gable and others of several counties in Northern California and Southern Oregon felt they were being ignored by their respective states. To correct that problem they decided to form the State of Jefferson. On November 27, 1941, a group of young men gained national media attention when, brandishing hunting rifles for dramatic effect, they stopped traffic on U.S. Route 99 south of Yreka, and handed out copies of a Proclamation of Independence, stating that the...

Feb 17, 2012 - Yreka, CA

Feb 17 We spent last night at a RV park in Yreka. Nothing special but the girl in the office was very pleasant and helpful. We got a pull through so we did not have to unhook the car. We could not get satellite reception so had to figure out how to use the cable hook up in the rig. This morning dawned sunny so hopefully the rain will be gone for awhile, the rig and the car are both filthy. We make one stop at the Olive Pit in Corning, taste and buy olive and then head off to Sacramento. Arrived at the kids around 1:30, got the rig are set...
