Jun 10, 2017 - Last Day at Yosemite

Today, a Saturday was to be our last day in Yosemite. We came up with a great plan. Since it was the week-end we decided to have a lazy morning and head into the park after lunch. We had a great lunch of grilled chicken-- Peter did a great job and his combination of cheese and salsa turned out to be pretty good. I tried it later and give it two thumbs up. It was good for everyone to sleep in and we hit the road to the park about 1:30 pm. Our great plan to arrive after the crowds turned out to be a abject failure! Lots of people come to...

Jun 9, 2017 - Day 2 in Yosemite

We all decided to get up early and go into the park. I thought I had made arrangements for Harley to get walked, but i fell through. So Elisabeth, Peter, Jack, Tucker and Susan went in by car and I followed later on the shuttle bus, We had a tour booked at 1:30 pm so there was time to see some of the sights. The boys went to an art program and Susan wandered around the valley floor taking pictures of half dome and water falls. After wandering around the Village, we grabbed lunch and then caught our tour bus to Glacier Point. This was...

Jun 8, 2017 - Yosemite National Park

Today we leave Sequoia and head north to Yosemite National Park. The drive through the central 't valley and then into the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains was really pretty. We stopped along the way to stock up on food since we would be at Yosemite for three days. Our camp ground was located in El Portal California just a few miles from the entrance to the park. Elisabeth and Pete and the boys went ahead of us and actually went into the park. We arrived at our campground and got camp set up. There wasn't much to do since the...

May 12, 2017 - Lions and Tigers and Bears, oh my.....

After showering T made scrambled eggs for breakfast. T realised he had forgotten to bring some medication, so we went with V to a town called Senora where a pharmacy would have the medication ready. It was a 40 minute drive, down New Priest and along back roads through farmland in the foothills. By the time we returned T had cleared grass from around the cabin and sprayed weeds. Lunch was prepared - C wanted to know if T had washed his hand after spraying Roundup - he said he hadn't. C interrogated him at length! We left around 12 and...

Apr 30, 2017 - Yosemite2/Bass lake Rv Resort

Hello We had 3 straight days exploring Yosemite and decided to stay away from the weekend crowds we will go for the final time monday. Thursday we did the hike to Mirror lake which was 2.2 oneway and was a lttle more than we bargained for but was very pretty. We found out later you can walk the paved road to other side of lake. Afterwards we did the 1/2 mile up to lower Yosemite fall which was a easy hike But very cold as there is snow still near the bottom.so after hiking 6 miles we were done. Friday we took the bikes and rode near 10...

Apr 26, 2017 - Mariposa and Yosemite

Setting off at just after 9am we begin our road trip. Shortly we are on highway 680 heading North and mixing with trucks and cars. I am trying to stay calm as massive semis pass by me going quite a bit faster. Gradually I start to feel more confident but the number of trucks is quite daunting. We are actually heading in the opposite direction to most of the traffic - the other direction traffic has 4 lanes packed and crawling along. We turn east along highway 580 and drive along flat land for the next couple of hours, stopping in a little...

Oct 14, 2016 - Varmints in search of food

The lady at the visitor’s centre told us that we were visiting Yosemite on a good day. We’d be able to watch the storm come in from the north and, there wouldn’t be that many tourists this time of year. Well, we got to watch the rain come in (no storm), and we still got to share the park with thousands of people. I’d hate to see what high season is like. Also, she told us there was Yosemite Village that we could visit. Great. That would be perfect timing for lunch. A village means shops and restaurants, right? Yes, but not open ones. Well,...

Sep 28, 2016 - Yosemite

We met friends, Mike and Irene, for a couple days at the Thousand Trails campground outside of Yosemite National Park. They took us to see some of the park and then had to leave. We spent a couple more days exploring on our own. Wow, quite the views in that park; glad we were not driving the motorhome through some of those tunnels! We saw Half Dome from Glacier point, Yosemite Falls (dry), El Capitan, Bridalveil Falls, the lodge, climbers on the rocks and Tioga Pass... Great Fun.

A Lifetime's Dream

Sep 14, 2016 - Yosemite NP

Sep 14, 2016: We spent the last 3 days in Yosemite NP and it would have been gorgeous if there had been water in the falls. It is so dry here that Lake beds have no or little water. The Yosemite Falls which is beautiful when water is flowing were just damp where the water should be. We left a day early because a locking mechanism on the side door went bad plus we had seen everything we wanted to see. Also our camping neighbors were gearing up for big party so we decided to leave and go to Madera where a Chrysler garage checked out my door...

Trip West 2016

Sep 1, 2016 - Yosemite

Today we had a fantastic drive through Yosemite National Park but before that we visited the ghost town of Bode. The town was called after a man called William Bodie who had discovered gold there. Unfortunately he was killed in a snowstorm while out getting supplies so was unable to benefit from his discovery. The town suffered when the laws were changed on mining and was then burnt down by a child with a box of matches. It is lovely to visit as there are no fripperies, just the deserted town. This town is IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE! How did...

Aug 14, 2016 - Yosemite, Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks

Central Coast California It was time to leave Anaheim, and we had a number of sites we wanted to see in Central California, so we headed north. Yosemite, Kings Canyon and Sequoia National Parks We planned on visiting these 3 national parks in September after the summer vacation crowds cleared, but since we found ourselves in California at loose ends in July, it seemed like the time was now, in spite of the crowds. Yosemite National Park covers over 1100 square miles and is incredibley diverse with its granite cliffs,...
