Oct 13, 2017 - Bus Tour of the Park and Travel to Midpines KOA and Civilization

October 13 – Bus Tour of the Park and Travel to Midpines KOA and Civilization We bought tickets for a morning tour of Yosemite and planned to tour in an open wagon. Due to the coolness (lower 40s) a bus was used. The tour guide provided new information about the park and stopped at sites that we had yet to visit. After lunch, we left our campsite, dumped our tanks and headed back to civilization at Midpines KOA to recharge our batteries and get ready to head south to Three Rivers near Sequoia NP.

Oct 12, 2017 - Camera Walk, Ranger Trees Walk and Dinner at the Lodge

October 12 – Camera Walk, Ranger Trees Walk and Dinner at the Lodge We signed up for a walk with a professional photographer from the Ansel Adams Studio in the Yosemite Village. I was surprised that Adams used a manual Photoshop-like method in the dark room to modify his photos – sky darkened to black, dark photo borders added, white made whiter etc. I was also surprised that he used f-stops of 250 and 500 – in other words, letting light through a pin hole sized aperture. He used the high f-stops to make the foreground and distant object...

Oct 11, 2017 - Visit to Glacier Point and Bridalveil Falls, Ranger Culture Walk and Another Ball Story

October 11 – Visit to Glacier Point and Bridalveil Falls, Ranger Culture Walk and Another Ball Story A visit to the top of Glacier Point was a must-see per the visitor’s center ranger so we drove the 30 miles to the top and looked down 3,200’ at the valley that looked like a model train village. On the way back to basecamp, we stopped at Bridleveil Falls to enjoy its uniqueness. We lunched at the Majestic Hotel dining room. The dining room is huge and a must-see for its unique interior. I took another great ranger walk with a subject of the...

Oct 10, 2017 - Travel to Upper Pines Campground in Yosemite NP

October 10 – Travel to Upper Pines Campground in Yosemite NP We arrived an hour early at the campsite and parked nearby until the previous resident left at noon. We are camped under the shadow of Glacier Point in a U-shaped valley formed by glaciers eons ago. Parking was a challenge and driving to the visitor’s center was time consuming with the major road construction projects and the thousands of visitors. I attended the ranger talk/walk with a subject of geology of the valley. In summary, the heavy Pacific Plate pushed under the lighter...

Oct 9, 2017 - Travel to Midpines, CA and Test Drive Rt. 140 to Yosemite NP

October 9 – Travel to Midpines, CA and Test Drive Rt. 140 to Yosemite NP The drive to Midpines was without problems as was the drive into Yosemite National Park on Rt. 140. There was just a 7% slope for several miles at the start and a detour due to a massive old landslide in the Merced River Valley. I will admit that I clipped a road sign with the RV right hand mirror housing. I mentioned previously that I often pulled over to let faster vehicles pass. Pull offs were spaced every few miles and legal notices informed that it was the law to...

Jun 10, 2017 - Last Day at Yosemite

Today, a Saturday was to be our last day in Yosemite. We came up with a great plan. Since it was the week-end we decided to have a lazy morning and head into the park after lunch. We had a great lunch of grilled chicken-- Peter did a great job and his combination of cheese and salsa turned out to be pretty good. I tried it later and give it two thumbs up. It was good for everyone to sleep in and we hit the road to the park about 1:30 pm. Our great plan to arrive after the crowds turned out to be a abject failure! Lots of people come to...

We all decided to get up early and go into the park. I thought I had made arrangements for Harley to get walked, but i fell through. So Elisabeth, Peter, Jack, Tucker and Susan went in by car and I followed later on the shuttle bus, We had a tour booked at 1:30 pm so there was time to see some of the sights. The boys went to an art program and Susan wandered around the valley floor taking pictures of half dome and water falls. After wandering around the Village, we grabbed lunch and then caught our tour bus to Glacier Point. This was...

Jun 8, 2017 - Yosemite National Park

Today we leave Sequoia and head north to Yosemite National Park. The drive through the central 't valley and then into the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains was really pretty. We stopped along the way to stock up on food since we would be at Yosemite for three days. Our camp ground was located in El Portal California just a few miles from the entrance to the park. Elisabeth and Pete and the boys went ahead of us and actually went into the park. We arrived at our campground and got camp set up. There wasn't much to do since the...

May 12, 2017 - Lions and Tigers and Bears, oh my.....

After showering T made scrambled eggs for breakfast. T realised he had forgotten to bring some medication, so we went with V to a town called Senora where a pharmacy would have the medication ready. It was a 40 minute drive, down New Priest and along back roads through farmland in the foothills. By the time we returned T had cleared grass from around the cabin and sprayed weeds. Lunch was prepared - C wanted to know if T had washed his hand after spraying Roundup - he said he hadn't. C interrogated him at length! We left around 12 and...

Apr 30, 2017 - Yosemite2/Bass lake Rv Resort

Hello We had 3 straight days exploring Yosemite and decided to stay away from the weekend crowds we will go for the final time monday. Thursday we did the hike to Mirror lake which was 2.2 oneway and was a lttle more than we bargained for but was very pretty. We found out later you can walk the paved road to other side of lake. Afterwards we did the 1/2 mile up to lower Yosemite fall which was a easy hike But very cold as there is snow still near the bottom.so after hiking 6 miles we were done. Friday we took the bikes and rode near 10...

Apr 26, 2017 - Mariposa and Yosemite

Setting off at just after 9am we begin our road trip. Shortly we are on highway 680 heading North and mixing with trucks and cars. I am trying to stay calm as massive semis pass by me going quite a bit faster. Gradually I start to feel more confident but the number of trucks is quite daunting. We are actually heading in the opposite direction to most of the traffic - the other direction traffic has 4 lanes packed and crawling along. We turn east along highway 580 and drive along flat land for the next couple of hours, stopping in a little...
