Mar 6, 2016 - Yorba Linda CA

Today we heard the sad news that Nancy Reagan had passed away. The Reagan Library was going to be our next stop but we shall see how that turns out. As I research I find out the library will be closed until after here funeral, so we need to adjust our plans. We did drive to Disneyland area in Anaheim to visit Downtown Disney. We thought about going to the park which we did years ago. It is a lot of stuff jammed into a small space, remember the park is located in Anaheim and is not spread out like Disneyworld. We spend some time walking...

Mar 5, 2016 - Yorba Linda CA

Thelma Catherine Rayan, but the world knew her as Pat Nixon, the wife of the 37th President of the United States of American, Richard Nixon. She was known as Pat, a nick name her father gave her as a child because she was born the day before St. Patrick’s Day and her Irish heritage. Why this information, we visited the Richard Nixon Library and Museum today in Yorba Linda California. It was our bad timing that most of the inside displays were closed for renovation and will not open until October 2016. We did get to visit the grounds, the...

Mar 4, 2016 - Yorba Linda CA

I have come to the conclusion that people in California do not work, they are out driving on the interstates. Traffic out here is crazy and people drive that way. I would not live her for the good weather or whatever reason people live here for. A simple drive of 66 miles will take us about 3 hours to cover. In California there is a law that any vehicle that is towing, including Semi’s, have a 55 mph speed limit. They must enforce because the Semi’s are following that speed limit, now cars are something else, just get out of their way. We...

May 5, 2013 - Happy Cinco de Mayo!

Happy Cinco De Mayo to ya! On this occasion let my give you the history of.... The Margarita! My drink of choice...love em. "In the summer of 1936, James Graham, owner and editor of the Moville, Iowa, Mail, took his wife to southern California for a bit of sightseeing. While there, as many do, the Grahams took a little side jaunt to Tijuana, Mexico, where—again, as many do—they found themselves in the grip of a sudden thirst for something alcoholic. Four years earlier, the choice of drinking establishments would have been a tough one:...

May 1, 2013 - Happy May Day

Hooray, hooray, it's the 1st of May! Every day has been a busy one with the kids, and getting ready for their parent's departure tomorrow for Florida. Dave won a 3 day weekend in Florida through his company and we will be staying at their home to take care of the children. I got a list about 6 pages long on a minute by minute instruction sheet with all their activities, sleepovers and soccer games. Wow! Wish us luck. It has been very interesting being here in Orange County. It is very true that the California women really work hard at their...

Apr 29, 2013 - A day with the kids

We had a fun filled day with the kids, and boy, can a 6 yr. old and an 8 yr. old wear a person out. I think John had the brunt of the phyical activities today. He had a blister on his foot, and legs and arms that ached. He is the best Grandpa. When we pulled into the parking lot of the school to pick up the children today, we noticed a car that had the passenger side window broken with glass on the ground, then we noticed that 3 parking spaces was another spot full of broken glass. Hard to believe, in an elementary school parking lot. If...

Apr 28, 2013 - Taylor's Birthday Party

Yesterday was Taylor's 8th birthday party and Macy's dedication at church. We really enjoyed the service at Friends Church in Yorba Linda. A young pastor and congregation, lively and uplifting music and a great message. Macy was dedicated today with several other children. It was so sweet seeing all those babies and little ones up on the altar with their families. Terri, Kim's Mom, took us all to Mimi's for lunch afterward. Thank you Terri for your genorosity. Taylor had her birthday party in the backyard with about 13 other squealing,...

Apr 27, 2013 - We arrived in California

It was a long drive today from Arizona to California and boy, were we glad to leave for a while. It is suppose to be in the 100's and we are not quite ready for that. We left about 10 a.m. and arrived at 3:45 p.m. Had lots of traffic on Hwy-91 in Riverside County. We heard it is #3 in traffic for the U.S.? Wow! We believe it, but it was Saturday, huh? We drove past the Imperial Sand Dunes. Did you know that they are California's largest mass of sand dunes? And, did you know that they were used for the site of some of the Star War Films?...

Oct 15, 2011 - Leaving California

We got to baby sit the children while their parents headed off to a three day cruise. We had a great time with them. Macy, the youngest, has a happy go lucky personality. Taylor, is a rambunctious, energetic, little girl. Between the two, we had quite a day. Took them to dinner, ice cream, then a trip to ToysRus for a couple good girl treats. They were up and running at 6 a.m. this morning, and so were we..except the running part. Kim and David are very healthy, and eat very healthy....which means no coffee. AWWWW!!! Searched on the...
