Sep 3, 2011 - 9/3/11 N. Mendocino Coast KOA in Westport Beach Day 1

Redwood NP day 3 Decide to quickly pack up and get to Mckinleyville to the garage to get the tires taken care of. Tom goes ahead in the RV. I follow in hopes of seeing some Roosevelt Elk. Just south of the camp on Davison Rd. there is a bull elk and his harem. The ranger states he is staking his territory as there is another bull across the street who would like these ladies for himself. Rutting season is coming up soon. Got some good pictures and on my way. Meet Tom at the garage, stems will be changed on all the tires and they tell of...

Jul 6, 2010 - Westport, CA

We were on the road in good time this AM. We continued north on CA 1. We found the same marine layer and the same exciting scenery. Our biggest thrill was finding our way through the San Francisco Bay area without a wrong step. Since CA 1 and US 101 run together across the Golden Gate, we decided to take US 101 to Petaluma and then cruise over to Bodega Bay. From there we continued north on CA 1. There was quite a bit of road construction going on, so the going was slow. Our overnight stop was in Westport Beach. We arrived quite a bit...

Jun 12, 2010 - Westport, CA

The drive from Sacramento to Westport was varied and interesting. We started out through agricultural country: hay, wheat, corn, grapes, fruit orchards, nut trees, and onions were plants we recognized, there were plenty of plants we did not recognize. As we moved up into the hills, we saw more vineyards. The countryside was grassy with trees. It is easy to see how a grassfire could do a great deal of damage and move quickly when it is dry. We drove by Clear Lake. It is a large lake surrounded by large rolling hills. The area is an old...

May 31, 2010 - Westport, CA-to the KOA on the beach

*Monday, May 31* We drove to Westport, CA to the KOA on the beach. We had met Jerry at an Oklahoma KOA who recommended this KOA on the beach; he was a good friend with the owner and said to tell them that Jerry from Oklahoma said to take care of us. And, they sure did, they gave us a beach front spot for our RV, the very first one on the beach. When we drove into the KOA, it was a little disappointing because it was raining, low wind with low clouds and fog, but our first view was of the beach and a couple of hundred yards out into the...

Apr 17, 2009 - April 15th and 16th

April 15th Travelled from Bodega Bay to Westport CA just north of Ft. Bragg – we are camping on the beach for the next two nights. After setting up camp we headed down the coast to Mendocino. Along the way we stopped at Casper Headlands State Beach and Point Cabrillo Light Station (still working and a B&B to boot), Russian Gulch SP (river outlet to the sea and a bridge that looks like the Colorado St Bridge, Pasadena – ran into some abalone divers hope they get lucky). Next we headed to the Mendocino Headlands SP and some of the bluest...
