Jun 15, 2014 - Redwood Hike

I did some research on hiking trails along the Avenue of the Giants and found an excellent 7.5 mile loop at Bull Creek Flats. Annie is not allowed on any of the trails in the Redwoods so Sue and I set out this morning for the hike. We stopped first at the Park Info Center to make sure that the summer bridges were in that make the loop hike possible. We found our way to the parking lot for the Rockefeller Forest Loop Trail that leads to the Bull Creek Flats Trail. As we headed up the loop trail we came to a sign for a branch trail labeled...

Aug 7, 2013 - Avenue of the Giants

We picked up Madolyn's mom Athena in Windsor, and headed north out of town on Highway 101. Our first stream to cross was the familiar old Russian River. A lunch stop in Willits and then on to the south fork of the Eel River. We camped for the night at Hidden Springs campground in Humboldt State Park.

May 28, 2012 - Humboldt Redwoods State Park

Monday, May 28th I went to see more giant trees!! I think they're running out of names for the biggest trees. Today it was the Giant Tree and the Flatiron Tree. But no matter what they call them, they're huge lying down or standing up. And no picture can show that adequately. Less people today as many left to head home but still enough to make sure there was enough noise being made that I didn't have to sing out loud to alert the bears of my presence. The campground has about 5-6 sites filled. Everyone packed up here too. I will leave...

May 27, 2012 - Humboldt Redwoods State Park

Sunday, May 27, 2012 A much nicer day today; temps climbed in to the 70’s with sun and a light breeze. I tried to clean the solar panels but can only reach 4 1/2 of the six panels. I can’t believe it’s been a month since Bruce last cleaned them. Sometime I’m going to have to climb on the roof to really clean them well but that idea scares me. Coming down is the hard part. I stayed in camp during the afternoon since that’s when everyone else leaves to ‘do their thing’. Then late afternoon I drove to do the nature walk at Founders Grove here...

May 26, 2012 - Kyen CG and Humboldt Redwoods State Park

May 22, 2012 Left Merced River RV Park on Sunday after getting the furnace part in and the furnace working late on Saturday. Got back to the CG near 10PM. Sure wouldn’t recommend that CG. It looks good when driving in, manicured lawn and nice grounds. Staff was pleasant enough. But there was a pungent odor, not sure what it was, that made it necessary to keep my windows closed and a/c on. That wasn’t too bad because when I got back Sat, loud music was blaring from the permanent residents area. So much to quiet hours. But I did have...

May 26, 2008 - Avenue of the Giants

Driving Hwy 101, we detoured through the Avenue of the Giants. It is the most outstanding display of these giant trees in the entire 500 mile redwood belt. The giant redwood trees grow only on the West coast of America; no place else on this earth. There are 15 of these giant redwood's that are over 361 feet tall. It is an amazing sight to see, and it is though they are whispering to you... something I will always remember.
