Oct 2, 2015 - Victorville CA – Victorville Shady Oasis Kampground

For starters, this is a former KOA campground and they spell “campground” with a “k”, so my mind isn’t going yet, I just spelled “campground” their way. This is just another one night stop over on our way to Arizona. Didn’t do much here but eat and sleep. We were on the road again in the morning.

Jun 26, 2014 - Adventures on Route 66

Hello! This time change is really working to our advantage! We were up very early, left Vegas and within an hour we were in California. We drove about 212 miles today through Death Valley along Route 66 and stopping for the night in Victorville, CA. The desert was really cool to see...miles of treeless mountains, so unlike anything I have ever seen. Driving the RV is the BEST way to travel! Like sitting in your own living room, on your couch, seeing the most beautiful scenery go by the window. PERFECT! We stopped at Calico Ghost Town. We...

Jun 2, 2013 - Aunt Kathy and the Devil's Punchbowl

We ventured to Victorville, California to see my Aunt Kathy. While there is, honestly, nothing in Victorville, it was a nice quiet weekend visiting family. She was so nice to put us up in her lovely home too. Ever the gracious hostess, she cooked every meal for us and arranged for everyone to get together one night. Now, while there is nothing in Victorville, there are many great things in the surrounding areas. We decided to check out the Devils’ Punchbowl Natural Area. A one-hour hike through the area turned out to be a great adventure. ...

Mar 27, 2011 - Lets go see Victorville

Now this morning we were up at the crack of dawn. We had a long drive and wanted to get started so we were up at 6 AM and on the road at 7:30. What a wonderful drive going from Phoenix to the Palm Springs area, beautiful area nice road, just wonderful. After Palm Springs we started hitting some very strong winds, so we got into line with a bunch of other RV and basically convoyed through the worst of it till we all went different ways. We headed off up the El Cajon pass and on to Victorville where we had a campsite at a county park which...

Nov 27, 2010 - Lake Havasu City, AZ - Victorville, CA

It is with teary eyes and a heavy heart we say goodbye to Lake Havasu this morning! We have had such a great time being here, relaxing, and doing different activities and are especially going to miss the awesome weather! This morning is another beautiful day, clear blue skies, no wind and the temperature is starting to warm up. The first order of business is fueling up; fuel prices are 'only' $3.14 per gallon, we have learned that prices in California are between $0.50 - $1.00 per gallon higher. This makes a wee bit of a difference on a 100...

May 25, 2009 - Crossing the Desert

We crossed the Mojave Desert, which is pretty desolate but was greener than we expected; spring is just departing. It was also mountainous, so Charlie and the Beagle Bus continued to build their gear shifting and braking skills! It’s hard to imagine covering our route the past few days in a wagon; Helen kept looking for John Wayne’s ghost on horseback. We didn't see any road runners or other desert critters, either! Spending the night in Victorville, just south of Barstow. We’ve been making the days fairly short, around 200 miles, and it is...
