Sep 22, 2016 - California Coast

Sept 20 This Santa Cruz RV Resort turned out to be a really nice park. Yesterday we just chilled by the pool & had it all to ourselves. Reading, lunch a few beer & a swim. Today we left Scotts Valley for Pismo Beach which is further down the coast. Check in wasn’t until 4pm so we took our time getting ready to leave. We took Reservation Rd (G17) from Marina to get to the #101. The Hwy. 101 has the Diablo Range on one side & the Santa Lucia Range on the other with acre upon acre of farmland in this valley. There are apx. 81,500 farmers in...

Mar 30, 2015 - Catching up Photos

Well, the news is back about my computer and it is not good. IT DIED! The Geek Squad said it's hard drive was shot, and so we have decided to just let it go with no extraordinary measures to keep it going. It is at least 8 years old and in computer years that is close to 100. It has been quite a chore transferring all my "stuff" onto Ed's laptop, especially since I barely remember any of my passwords and user names. Fortunately, we finally figured out how to get my trip journal to work, so I am uploading some photos that go with my last...

Crawford's Trip 2014

Mar 22, 2015 - Camping on the Beach

Needles, CA was the first town in California that travelers came to when heading west on Route 66 through the Mohave Desert. It had thriving businesses of gas stations, motels, restaurants, gift shops, and then I-40 was built and like a lot of other towns along the old Rte 66, it floundered and although not a ghost town, it has certainly suffered. Almost 5,000 people live around Needles with an unemployment rate of 9.6%. However, it has a nice Coast to Coast park fronting the Colorado River and we stayed a week there. The day we arrived, we...

Crawford's Trip 2014

Apr 13, 2014 - Ventura Beach, CA

Hello Everyone, Today we headed up the California coast about 70 miles to Ventura Beach! We stayed at the Ventura Beach RV Resort which is within walking distance of the beach! We took multiple Scooter rides all over town, and ended up at Surfers Beach which featured all sorts of Surfers including Wind Surfers! We even took in another of those famous California Sunsets! We then spent a day or so Geocaching all over town, and this led us to Ventura Beach Pier which is an enormous Pier stretching into the Ocean! The California weather right...

Jun 15, 2013 - Trip to Santa Barbara

Spent the morning hanging around the campground. Got the blog up-to-date and then headed to Santa Barbara which is about a 15 minute drive to the north. The DW wanted to visit the mission in Santa Barbara. This is one of the 21 missions that were established by the Spanish up the coast from San Diego to San Francisco. Santa Barbara is a city of about 90 000 and is the tourist hub of the area. Mission was large and beautiful. Beautiful gardens and lawn in front where families were enjoying their Saturday. There were also a crowd of teenage...

Jun 14, 2013 - Beaching It!

Spent the day around the campground, beaching it. Early in the morning watched kids explore the tide pools at low tide discovering crabs and star fish. Then walked along the beach for about an hour. Sitting at the table at lunch we watched a pod of dolphins swim by about 200 m off shore. After lunch we packed the beach chairs and umbrella and headed to the beach to watch the people surf and play in the water. Some wear wet suits others don't. The water is cool. A beautiful sunny day. We decided to try the local harbour restaurant for...

Jun 13, 2013 - The California Beach Lifestyle

Our campground is really interesting. Behind us are very high hills that are steep. No roads. At the base of them is the PCH, a four lane freeway. Below it is a set of well used train tracks. Below it the old PCH and then our campground. There is another campground further south on the beach like ours and in between, a campground called Rincon Parkway. It's the most interesting. On the ocean side of the old PCH. Basically parallel parking for RV's. Spaces are 50' feet long. There are 128 and they are full. You park end to end. A great use...

Jun 12, 2013 - Ventura-Hobson Beach Park

We made it. Organized and out of San Diego by nine. We have had a wonderful time. Originally had thought we might spend three days but ended up spending 6 days and seven nights. Had a great time with our friends, Moe and Linda Rosenberg. Sad to leave but we'd better move on. Decided to skip the beaches south of Los Angeles and headed for Santa Barbara. Drove through downtown LA on the Santa Monica Freeway. If we had turned left we would have seen the end of Route 66 at the Santa Monica Pier but we are too big. After passing through LA we...

Apr 23, 2013 - Rincon Beach

We stopped by Rincon Parkway to have lunch. Took our bikes for a ride to check out the spots. We will fit in spots, but not car. Car can be parked on street down the road from the RV spots. We also checked out Faria, first come, first serve. 7 day max and then must leave for 7 days. Some hook ups that we could fit into and some without we can fit into. Weather was great. Lunch is done, drive on.

Apr 22, 2013 - Driving San Diego to Ventura

Today we drove from San Diego north to Ventura to get in position to visit the Channel Islands National Park tomorrow. All the way from San Diego through Los Angeles, the freeway was 4 or more lanes in each direction, except for one short stretch of 3 lanes each way, and all of them were crowded with cars. Makes you wonder where all the people come from and where they´re going. And makes us glad we live in Mena where three cars in line at a stop light is a traffic jam. We made it here in time to go to the Visitors´Center for the park which...

Jan 17, 2013 - A Room With A View

David clearly has strep throat, or some kind of infection, that is making him unable to swallow, eat, feel like a real human being. But, because he read on the internet that one can beat strep without antibiotics, he is trying to fight it. Can you tell that I am less than pleased with this theory? I will just have to wait until he is light enough for me to carry into the truck and haul him to the doctor. Which should be any day now. So as not to tax him too much, we decided to boondock (to be fully self-contained, no hook-ups) a couple...

May 10, 2012 - Harbor Village

We visited the Channel Island Visitor Center today, we are preparing for our trip to the Channel Islands. We watched a long video and asked all the questions about the five islands. We have decided to visit Santa Cruz Island. We are doing a half day tour. They drop you off on the island and you are left to explore. We are taking a picnic lunch and chairs etc. It should be a fun day. We had a great lunch at Spinnaker Seafood Broiler in Harbor Village. We ordered the five fish skewer, it had a couple of bites each of mesquite grilled Mahi...
