Read and rate Travel Journal Entries for Van Nuys, California, United States

Apr 30, 2009 - Oscar Rubal & Family

Leaving Van Nuys and the RV Park was easy to do, the weather was turning hot, the grass was drying up, when you walked on the grass it was almost like stepping on those dead fall leaves that tumble from the trees in the latter part of the year. Just as you would pack up and leave your home for a new and cozier place to live, so did we. Each time we 'hook up and pull out', we hope that the new location will be better then the last, but still remind each other of the good times we had. The pictures that are with this posting are of our...

Apr 21, 2009 - Lone Star State...

Here we are preparing to leave Van Nuys California headed to the Lone Star State...Hook up and pull out will be Sunday, 26 of April as early as we can get on the road. Glad to leave the traffic behind, looking forward to the open roads ahead of us. We are also looking forward to being close to family, this will be the first time that we will live this close for a extended period of time, sure hope we don't drive them CRAZY! Donna and I still have the desire to travel to the sights that Texas has to offer us, we will also travel to...

Apr 12, 2009 - Preparing to leave Van Nuys / La Basin

Well, with a 'end assignment date' of 26 April, we are counting down to the day we leave. Even though this has been a better then expected assignment, I believe we are ready to move along to a new location, see new places and meet different people. We will keep all notified through the travel site as to where we are going. At this time we do not have a 'next assignment' lined up yet, we may have that answer this coming week, we hope anyway. 13 weeks went by pretty quick here...alot of fruit picked off the tree's and wonderful weather each...

Mar 29, 2009 - Life in a RV

In response to a few of the readers who wanted to know what life is like in a 5th wheel, I hope that this answers a few of those questions. This is a 28 foot 5th wheel, it has the ability to sleep 6 people (wouldn't want to attempt that one!) But the couch and the dining table fold out or collapse, sleeps two apiece. We have had to make a few changes for the benefit of all the clothes we needed to take with us, so I installed a "Clothes pole" the width of the trailer, towel racks, soap dishes, shelving, rubber based shelf liner (Donna's...

Mar 19, 2009 - The Colors and Sounds of Van Nuys !

Ok, this is what you need to do, this entry is titled 'The colors and sounds of Van Nuys', so reach over and turn your speakers on...I'll wait for you.... Are you ready? Sorry.......it's a shame that you cannot hear the wind gently blow through the trees of the Van Nuys park, hear the children laughing at the ducks as bread is tossed down for the birds morning snack. I can tell you that the noise of the ducks and geese is quite loud!! But to hear a voice quietly saying "excuse me" as four little wheels roll along as a small child sitting...

Mar 5, 2009 - Rebecca's gone home...

To all those who don't yet know, Rebecca has been released from St Mary's Hospital in Evansville Indiana and has gone home to Pleasant Ridge, Kentucky. She is in a wheel chair, both legs I believe are still encased in either a brace or a hard cast, she is styling in a "halo" and plate, "her body armour", but she is home. Calling her from California every other day I have noticed that Rebecca has gained such a strong sence of "I can do" attitude since the wreck, and I believe that she can heal and will heal, she has such a long way to go...

Feb 13, 2009 - Rebecca's Progress

I thought that I would call Mercy Hospital in Evansville Indiana this morning, I actually was able to speak to Rebecca, normally when I call she is asleep or in such pain she is not able to have a conversation with me. Today when I called, she was doing her 'Jane Fonda' routine with the nurse, but was still able to speak to me for a minute or so, I find Rebecca in good spirits and strong. At the time I called her, she still had her 'pic line' in but was not attached to any 'drug flow', she was sitting up in a chair and talking. Because of...

Jan 23, 2009 - Donna's pictures from Texas to California

Ky to California with a stop in Texas (why didn't we take pictures in Tyler?) while Darrell was doing all the driving, it was up to me to read the map, watch for traffic, watch Darrell's driving ! Didn't think we could drive 70 plus hauling a 5th wheel down the expressway and lookout for those critters that run in front of us, (we only hit one critter...ground hog?) While driving along I thought about dragging out the camera and snapping a few, some of the pictures we were not able to stop and get a "clear photo", so some photo's came out...

Jan 19, 2009 - LA National Cemetary

On our way down Hwy 405 S, we have encountered the Los Angeles National Cemetery, we have actually driven past all the white crosses a few times and one day we thought we would stop and walk through. Today was the day we made that decision and was glad of it. As in most "National Cemteries" we see the many white crosses in a row, all seem to be the same from a distance until you walk up and read the names on the stones, the dates from each begining and each end, we wonder who they were in between. We make a guess by attempting to decipher...

Jan 16, 2009 - Fellow RV'er... Pam....

At some point laundry has to be done, we all have to deal with hauling our "dirties" to give them a good wash and dry and hope that the equipment is available since one has hauled three to four bottles of "necessary liquids", two full canvas bags of dirties, rolls of quarters, one lap top computer since I know I will be bored while I "help" Donna with the loading and unloading of equipment. We must not forget hangers, puzzle books and a Grapefuit hauling Wal*Mart Plastic bag (our advance planning for our breakfast the next morning has to be...

Jan 13, 2009 - RV Park in Van Nuys Ca (Balboa Dr)

We are here at the RV Park in Van Nuys California, the park has 185 spaces, some are tight places, ours is up front, as the manager stated she wanted to put us up front to keep a eye on us. They seem to be nice people, have not had any problems being here, have located the fruit tree's and have allowed us to have a morning breakfast of oranges, grapefruit and lemons. We are told that there is a avocado tree somewhere here as well, I don't think they are in season yet and we may be gone by the time they are. Bob is our go to guy...hose...
