Apr 7, 2009 - Another Fun Day

The Santa Rosa Plateau Ecological Reserve was our first stop today. We walked about 4 miles of trails loaded with beautiful spring wildflowers. We visited vernal pools (seasonal ponds that support fairy shrimp), an old adobe house on a cattle ranch that had a 400 year old live oak tree and passed bird houses that bluebirds nested in. The trails had the most magnificent views of rolling hillsides. The weather was perfect. It was wet on the Palomar trail so we opted for this hike instead. After much discussion about where to lunch, we settled...

Apr 3, 2009 - A Rough Ride to Temecula

Another sleepless night only this time it was because of 30 mile an hour winds ( gusts up to 40). We pulled the slides in , laid in bed, and listened to it howling outside. This morning was still very gusty but the forecast was for better conditions in the direction we were going. So off we went on the Sonny Bono Highway for our 90 mile drive to Temecula. As we got to the western side of Palm Springs we saw tons of windmills on both sides of the road. That should have been our first clue that the worst was not over. Tom did a wonderful job...

Mar 6, 2008 - My God, we did it again !!!

March 5th Aguanga, CA It's another gorgeous day and after doing laundry we plan on driving into Temecula for lunch and a sight seeing day. It's warm and sunny and it's good to be alive. Temecula is an old ranching town that was formed in 1882 and Old Town still has a lot of the original buildings. The streets are filled with antique stores bursting at the seams. We spent an hour or so exploring, ate lunch and then did some shopping before heading back to the bus for a lazy evening. March 6th Aquanga, CA Bob and Dianne Hedman and their...

Mar 6, 2008 - Outdoor Resorts

At the FMCA International Convention in Pomona there were a number of RV Resorts with booths in the vendor building. Some of these were offering promotional discounts to stay at their resort, probably with a view to selling a lot at their resort to participants. One such offer was four days & three nights at one of the resorts in the Outdoor Resorts of America group. We chose Rancho California in the Temecula Valley in Southwestern California. We arrived on Tuesday March 4 and will leave Friday March 7. It is a beautiful place with palm...

We arrived Friday about 10:30 (early check in). Got set up and decided to call a very good friend of ours (Billie) that we had known for a long time. We invited her over for a BBQ and had a very nice visit. She came around 4:00 and didn't leave until about 9:00...we like to talk. Saturday, March 17, 2007 On Saturday, Gary and Han (my brother and sister in-law) drove up from Rancho Pansquitos to visit. Newly weds Shelly (my niece) and Greg (married 12/31/06) also came up. All of us decided to go to dinner at the Pechanga buffet. Well, we...

Mar 10, 2007 - Southern California living

We lived in the Central Valley for two months while we worked for Air Photo. Jojoba Hills, east of Temecula and Hemet were our two home bases. This area had been without rain for an entire year. And there was a hard freeze while we were here which killed avocado groves. Tough year for the locals. In Hemet we found square dancers and were able to do advanced square dancing twice a week to Randy Weaver at the Cow Palace in Riverside and in Hemet.
