Jun 4, 2017 - San Diego and Rick's house

Sorry I have not been up dating, but we have been really busy and not had the best WiFi. We got to our campground in San Diego and it is a huge KOA located in Chula Vista. Our first stop was the San Diego Zoo. It has been on Susan's bucket list for years. Turned out we visited on a slow day, except for school kids! It is a huge zoo and we walked about 4 miles up and down hills-- did I mention hills? We don't have many of those in Florida and it was the hills more than the distance that got to us. But with the aid of a bus tour we got to see...

Apr 25, 2016 - Hello everyone, we are on the road ! Are you ready to go ?

Our travels began on Thursday the 21st, our first stop was Temecula, Ca. to visit our dear friends Bob & Dolly. We spent a few hours together, catching up our families & talking about the days that we would camp together. We have always enjoyed being with them & having lots of laughs. We stayed at the Pachanga Casino/RV Resort (just a two night stay). Of course we hit the casino & actually did pretty good.

Pete & Jan's Travels

Jul 30, 2015 - We just want to get on the road! @$&?!;

It seems if it could go wrong, it did. The temps were high in Palm Springs, making hard to get the refer cooled down. Not yet knowing we had a problem with the inverter allowing use of the 12 volt electric system, the message on the refer reported we were low on propane. So our first stop heading out of town was to get propane. Well, the task of getting the new tire rack for improved storage backfired when we discovered the installers blocked the LP fill valve. This meant a hurried return trip all the way back down to Santee to get the rack...

May 16, 2015 - Barstow, CA to Temecula, CA

Today's drive was not as picturesque as many in the past and took a lot longer than planned because of construction along I-15. We arrived at the Pechanga RV Resort at 3:30pm, got the RV hooked up, and then drove the car to visit our friends Brian & Gwen Eden at their gorgeous home in Bonsall, about a half hour away. Dan and I both worked with Brian at ITT Gilfillan many years ago. It was great reminiscing and catching up with good friends! Their dachshund, McDougal, satisfied our doggie fix for the day...what a cutie!

Jan 22, 2014 - Triple d's or "DDD"

Jan 20 - Monday - We doing pretty much as back home in the summer. Getting to know the lay of Hemet. Easy to get around. We have been shopping for a bike, cant seem to find a good one in stock, out of season. The Winter here is the DRIEST on record, ever.... The fruit and vegetable growers need water, not oil.. California provides about 75% of the USA with produce. With lack of water, you can only imagine the turmoil that could result with out some rain. As ususal we met some great people who are dirt-less (homeless)from Nevada, they just...

Aug 9, 2013 - Communal living in Southern California

Last year while we were away in Papua New Guinea, Rosemary and Jim from California stayed in our house in Eden Hills on the basis that sometime we would stay in Rosemary's house in Temecula in Southern California which is about half way between Los Angeles and San Diego. We organised to spend three nights at Rosemary's place giving us time to do our washing, update our journal and have a bit of a rest. That was the theory but the practice has not worked out so well. We thought that we would avoid the chaos of flying in to Los Angeles...

Jun 16, 2013 - Pechanga Casino

Well it's time to check out the casino next door. We took the free shuttle over for the buffet at lunch. I guess we hadn't really thought about how crowded it would be on Father's Day. We got there around 1 and the line was down the hall. Stan thought the line would go down if we waited so walked around exploring the games. At 2 we checked and the line was twice as long as it had been so we got in line. 35 minutes later we got a table. The food was very good and I don't remember seeing a buffet with that many choices. The casino is huge....

Jun 15, 2013 - More wineries and a baseball game

Saturday we were on our own to explore more of the wine country. It was obvious the wine tours and bridal parties were in full swing with the week-end. Our first stop was South Coast Winery. It is the most developed with a hotel, spa, restaurant, gift shop, etc. We drove through on Thursday to see the landscaping, but today we decided to find out about their wine. The main tasting room was very crowded so we opted to go outside. Even there we had to work our way up to the table. We again shared a tasting. The wines were good although none...

Jun 14, 2013 - Hawk's Watch and the High Desert

On Friday, John picked us up in the afternoon and drove us to an area around Temecula that we would never have found on our own. Our first stop was a very small winery called Hawk's Watch that you would definitely have to know was there to find it. The tasting room is inside the warehouse surrounded by barrels of wine. The person conducting the tasting is the wife of the guy who makes the wine. It was excellent. The area is very rustic...right up my alley. From there we drove up in the mountains and stopped in a town called Julien. John...

Jun 13, 2013 - Pechanga RV Resort

Little did I know when we left El Cajon this morning for Temecula that this would be a very long but fun day. We arrived at Pechanga RV Resort around noon. This park is next to the Pechanga Resort and Casino. However, that is not the reason we are here. We have a friend from college, John Heberle, who lives here with his wife. John has been eager to show us the sites around his home. He drove up shortly after we parked our rig. After a light lunch of CA tacos, we set out for wine country in the Temecula Valley. We were surprised to find 43...

Feb 20, 2013 - weather

A large storm moved down the Pacific coast from Alaska. We watched the LA forecast intently, wondering what it meant for us in the Inland Empire. Although southern CA weather is not as interesting as ours at home, the forecast is quite complex since there are so many micro regions. The coast gets one forecast: the mountains get another; the flat interior is usually warmer and drier and where we are in gently rolling hills had another forecast. As new arrivals, we're not familiar with the regional terminology. There was great forecaster...
