Mar 26, 2017 - Hot Springs Ahhhhhhh!

We knew after finding this place when we headed south towards Arizona that we would have to come back, so we did. We spent one night at Tecopa Palms Hot Spring Resort again in Tecopa CA. This is a small (very small) town on the eastern side of Death Valley National Park. The campground is pretty lax, you pretty much go pay and pick a spot so we did. It was kind of strange later when a guy pulled up in a motorhome right next to us and said we took his spot. No one told us it was his spot, and we did tell the manager where we were. So for the...

Jan 15, 2017 - Hot Date (Hot Spring and Dates that is!)

We drove on south and ended up in Tecopa Hot Springs. An RV park had hot springs right there at the ark. Private bath houses. We had a good soak or two, or three! Sooooo relaxing! We took a drive to a nearby date farm. We drove down a narrow windy dirt road, very glad to not meet oncoming traffic! The hills we were driving through were desert with not much growing out there. Good thing we saw signs or we would have thought we made a wrong turn. Then all of a sudden an oasis appeared. Huge Date Palm trees. There was a small shop and bakery...

Feb 26, 2014 - China Ranch Date Farm-Tecopa, CA

Since arriving in Pahrump, we’ve been intending to drive about 34 miles from Pahrump, NV to Tecopa, CA to visit a date growing farm. China Ranch Date farm is way out in the middle of nowhere, as is the settlement of Tecopa. Today we decided to do the 114 mile loop drive south from Pahrump, west across to CA to Tecopa, north to Shoshone, CA, east over the small mountain range back to Pahrump. In the late 1890s a Chinese man named Ah Foo left employment at one of the nearby borax mines, and settled at the bottom of a steep canyon along a...

Mar 30, 2012 - Time To Wander Further West

Tecopa, CA. 48 deg. clear, S. wind @ 2 mph. Forecast = Partly cloudy. High of 84F. Winds less than 5 mph. Well, today we leave Tecopa and continue wandering West. Yesterday, Jim checked all my fluid levels, dumped my tanks and put some fresh water into my fresh water tank. He also checked and filled all my and CLT's tires, since that hadn't been done for quite awhile. and then just kind of kicked back for the rest of the day. ; ) While he was doing that, Linda was busy inside of me, working on her family tree, putting stuff away that had...

Mar 29, 2012 - Poor Little CLT

Tecopa, CA. 48 deg. clear, no wind. Forecast = Partly cloudy. High of 79F. Winds less than 5 mph. Poor little CLT! He really had a busy day yesterday and by the time he returned here to the RV Park in Tecopa, his little tail gate was almost dragging the ground!!!! ; ) "Why was that?" you ask. Well, Jim and Linda decided to head back to Death Valley and this time, go to the bottom of the valley to see it, instead of looking at it from above, and CLT had to get them there. So, , , , , , about 9:45 they hopped into CLT and took off. Now to...

Mar 28, 2012 - Nothing Much Happening

Tecopa, CA. 54 deg. clear, N. wind @ 2 mph. Forecast = Partly cloudy. High of 75F. Winds from the NE at 5 to 10 mph. There was nothing much planned for Monday except to do laundry. Well, that's about all that happened. Jim was out and about visiting with neighbors, playing with the computer and just kicking back. Linda did laundry, read some and worked on her Family Tree Maker program. Yesterday, the plan was to go back to Death Valley to check out some more sights, but Jim woke up with a plugged ear and really didn't feel too well, so...

Mar 26, 2012 - What A Windy Day!!

Tecopa, CA. 44 deg. partly cloudy, SE wind @ 10 mph. Forecast = Partly cloudy. High of 64F. Winds less than 5 mph. Whew!!!! What a windy day yesterday!!! Dust everywhere, things being blown around in the park and at the same time, people trying to do things, like get ready to leave the park for the season or just get over to the clubhouse for the hot dog roast the CG owners had yesterday. It wasn't too bad in the morning and Jim was out and about talking to the neighbors. He's become pretty good friends with Andy and Mary who have the old...

Mar 25, 2012 - First Trip Into Death Valley

Tecopa, CA. 46 deg. clear, no wind. Forecast = Partly cloudy in the morning, then mostly cloudy with a chance of rain. High of 66F. Winds from the East at 5 to 15 mph with gusts to 30 mph. Chance of rain 40%. After starting the day with a sunrise like this, Jim just knew it had to be a good day for exploring parts of Death Valley. : ) . . So, after packing some things to take along, (a water jug filled with ice water, some snacks and a lunch for Linda), they headed towards the valley. The road getting to Death Valley is in very good...

Mar 24, 2012 - Out Of Nevada And Back Into California

Tecopa, CA. 54 Deg. clear, NE wind @ 5 mph. Forecast = Partly cloudy. High of 75F. Winds from the ESE at 5 to 15 mph with gusts to 30 mph Because they were forecasting some possible windy conditions later on in the day, we left the Cal-Nev-Ari RV Park earlier than usual, (about 8:25), and continued North on US95. When we came to the town of Searchlight, we turned West on NV164. 164 is a 2 lane road that is basically good, but it is full of dips and humps. . . It’s kind of like riding a roller-coaster and it’s necessary to give full...

Jun 28, 2011 - Tecopah Mines

On some Tuesday mornings, we leave Charleston Peak RV Resort for an off-road adventure. Today, we headed west and south to some abandoned silver mines in nearby Tecopah, California. The original town was built around two prosperous silver mines, War Eagle and Noonday. There was a railroad system, but the metal was taken during World War II, and nothing remains. There were two camps, one was for married couples and the other for single men. We visited both camps and an abandoned ranch site. The 2 camps did not leave much for picture-taking,...

Oct 20, 2008 - Pahrump, NV (Day 6) - China Ranch Date Farm

(Ron Writing) We went on a drive to see the China Ranch Date Farm. From Pahrump we headed west on NV-372 which changes to CA-178 at the California border. We drove through Shoshone and then drove a short distance south on CA-127 to Tecopa Hot Springs, a little east of CA-127. From Tecopa we followed the signs to Furnace Creek Road and then south on China Ranch Road. The road soon turns into a dirt road and then a one-lane dirt road that winds through a canyon down into an oasis in this very dry and barren desert. It is an interesting place...
