Apr 28, 2017 - Yosemite to Lake Tahoe

Crossing the Sierra Nevada An early breakfast saw us on the road before 8am. About 12 km from Mariposa we came across a fantastic downhill that made me wish for my bike. The road was smoothly surfaced with beautifully cambered bends at a 7% gradient for 4 miles then across a bridge and another 7 miles of similar road back uphill. Thereafter the road undulated sinuously for mile after mile across rolling hills of pasture and forest. Our first stop was in Jamestown which is famous for the number of movies with trains that were made there. We...

Aug 24, 2016 - Lake Tahoe CA

After our adventure with Lucas and Avery at Avenue of the Giants a golden opportunity became available. The Coast Guard has 2 A-frame cottages that they rent to military personnel in Tahoe City on Lake Tahoe. Since we had never been there before we drove up. The cabins are pretty basic but they sufficed for 2 days. Of course it is mandatory to take a boat ride on the lake first thing. It was a lovely day for one and for sharing a bottle of wine. The chamber of commerce recommended several restaurants around the lake and we availed...

Sep 30, 2014 - Lake Tahoe

Day 4: Today we decided to see Lake Tahoe (in Brisbane its our anniversary). A really nice place to see, would be great in summer and winter to see. Did whole lap around the lake and saw it from all angles. On the way home we stopped @ the outlet place again so Mum could swap her shoes over that she got the day before. Then we went back to Summit Racing for extra supplies and then on to Walmart for some items which included an electric kettle. After a every embracing visit back to the store I found that the base was inside the kettle the...

Sep 9, 2012 - Day trip to Lake Tahoe

Sunday, Jim and I had a moment to sleep in. Tom and Rachel went on a run but when they were home they quickly changed and then we all left for the 2 hour drive to Lake Tahoe. We visited the Baldwin Estates which is now part of the National Forestry Department. Several of the buildings are still being renovated but those that have been restored are remarkable. The furnishings and architecture takes one back to an era long gone. The time of the Great Gatsby, roaring 20's and the elite. Visitors get a 3 minute documentary regarding the three...

Jul 21, 2012 - Lake Tahoe

Sep 8, 2010 - Lake Tahoe

The Exodus from the Burn was bound to be a slow one, 45,000 people trying to exit from a party, hmmm, big queues. So I decided to help out with a little bit of clear up and one of the Irish guys from Minitropolis offered to take me to Reno. Fortunate this, as Karen, my lift in, had actually left on the Saturday so in effect I would have been stranded, nice! Barry one of the Irish crew who'd built and blown up Megatropolis was returning to Reno on Monday night, so he gave me Lisa and Bob (fellow paddys) a lift back. The journey without...

Sep 4, 2010 - Reno to South Lake Tahoe

We resumed our journey to Lake Tahoe this morning to rejoin our traveling guides Bill the and Nancy. The trip from Reno to Tahoe is immensely scenic and about 60 miles. We passed through historic Carson City, NV before making the long climb over the mountain into Lake Tahoe. We passed through a scary rock walled tunnel just before the lake shore as I straddled the two lanes to pass in the middle where it had the highest clearance-no sun roof today. We then arrived at the beautiful RV Park set deep in the woods surrounded on all sides and...

Jun 21, 2010 - Great Salt Lake

On Monday, we traveled to Salt Lake City and swam in the Great Salt Lake. Although it was pretty neat to be able to float without any effort and was something that “you just have to do,” the beach was pretty gross and the water was very shallow. We had to walk about a quarter of a mile out into the lake before the water was deep enough to float in. When we dried off, we were covered with salt. It is nice to have a traveling shower with us for just such an occasion. The kids definitely enjoyed the Great Salt Lake more than I (Michelle) did....

Jun 20, 2010 - Lake Tahoe

Sunday and Monday were travel days going from Yosemite to a campground near where we will be white-water rafting. On Sunday, we traveled through the rest of Yosemite park exiting by the north entrance. We passed some beautiful sights including Tenaya Lake which was surrounded by mountains and partially covered in ice. We got out to enjoy the view and the kids spent some time skipping stones across the icy cold water. The water is from snow melt. We hit 10,000 feet high, our highest so far…and probably for the trip. A little further on, we...

Jun 15, 2009 - Vallejo to Lake Tahoe

178 miles 3 hours 40 min 530-525-7936 We will be here 4 nights from June 15, leaving on the morning of June 19. Six year old Clark and eleven year old Michael rode to Lake Tahoe with us from Vallejo (they allowed their mom, Katy, to ride also), taking turns co-piloting and enjoying the freedom of eating lunch and going to the bathroom while we were on the 3 hour trip. My sister had to drive with only the dog for company! The Allen family graciously shares their lake home with us when we visit and we thoroughly enjoy their incredible view...

May 25, 2009 - The Five Lakes Trail

It was such a beautiful day, we just couldn’t resist getting out on the trail. Today we went to the western side of Lake Tahoe to the Alpine Meadows area which is near Tahoe City. This trail has been on our list for several days, but highway 28 is undergoing major construction and is closed weekdays. Going around the lake from the south side adds several miles to an already 30 mile trip. We took advantage of the road being open this weekend. We were not disappointed. It was a beautiful trail even though we did not have views of Lake Tahoe....

May 14, 2009 - at Tahoe City CA; Carver's, NOT IN RV

39040 to start the day. We had a great time at the Carver's. My conection is not the greatest tonight (Fri), so I intend to finish this tomorrow. Now, it's the next day (Sat), and I have a much better connection and I put more pictures on my site. Tahoe is really pretty, with good weather while we were there. It is a little cool in the AM but it is nice, not HOT, in the PM. We went almost all the way around the lake, but the SE road was closed. On the day before we left, which was on Thursday, Lin & I went to Truckee, about 20 miles away,...
