Jun 13, 2014 - Swamp Tour and YUMMY Food

So we woke up today to POURING rain and we thought that with all certainty the Swamp Tour would be cancelled, but to our surprise it was not! When we called in they said that they sell rain ponchos and that the boats were covered so we should be ok. The tour was about a 45 minute drive away and thankfully it was not raining in that area. As I mentioned before, I was really looking forward to this tour because I enjoyed it so much the last time I was here. Let me tell you that this tour was AMAZING! We were so close to alligators and our...

Jun 12, 2014 - New Orleans and Alligator Nuggets!!!

I did not blog yesterday as it was a bit uneventful. We were more than ready to leave New York and head over to New Orleans. We were severely delayed in getting to New Orleans but we are here now! After having dinner, we walked around a bit and then headed back to the hotel. Today we scheduled two tours. BUT, the very first thing we did was head over to Café Du Monde for a breakfast of beignets which were as delicious as I remember them to be! I have to tell you that even more spectacular than the beignets is their coffee. It is the second...

Jun 10, 2014 - Kat turns 14 in New York!

Let me start this off by sincerely apologizing to one of the biggest “Sex AND the City” fans I know – Stella!! I am not sure why I continually call it “Sex in the City” – I think there is some hidden fantasy in my head…hahaha!! Pretty soon I will be so old that I will be renaming songs like “Whip It” instead of “Beat It”…LOL! So we started Kat’s birthday at Cake Boss and being the VERY embarrassing mother I am I had brought candles with me. We sang to her in the middle of the store and while she was very embarrassed, I think she was...

Jun 9, 2014 - Touring in the rain...

Today was our final official day of touring the City of New York as tomorrow will be “Katrina’s Day” filled with specially planned events. We exited the hotel and it was a torrential down-pour. Let me tell you that the people of NY know how to take advantage of every situation for tourists. Soon as we took several steps there were several vendors selling umbrellas (thank goodness)! We started our day by going to The Cathedral Church of Saint John the Divine. This is the largest Cathedral in the USA and while it began construction in the...

Jun 8, 2014 - Brooklyn and Queens....

Today, I thought it would be a low-key day but not so much! We started off going to Brooklyn and Queens and toured through those areas. It was so cool to see the beautiful brownstones that are so iconic in all the movies and TV Shows. I have to remember to tell Stella that we saw a couple of iconic places related to Sex in the City – like the brownstone that Miranda bought…haha! While this took most of the day, we still had time to take a night cruise on the Hudson where we got to see the Statue of Liberty all lit up and the skyline was...

Jun 7, 2014 - Brave San Francisco Girl in NY!

Today we got a later start because everybody was pretty exhausted. We began in Times Square and had a bite to eat before we started our day. On this trip we decided to be adventurous and try different places and not any of the major chains that we have in our area. We ended up at a really great place and tried a slice of rigatoni with meat sauce pizza. Katrina said it best when she said, “you can’t go wrong with carbs on carbs.” LOL! We walked into the Aladdin box office because so many people have talked about it that we wanted to see how...

Jun 6, 2014 - Liberty and Freedom's True Beauty

We were up super early today (6am) after going to bed at 1:00am. We needed to get to the a central location to pick up our hop-on-and-off bus tickets. I had purchased these tickets on line as well as the New York City Pass. While we saw a multitude of sites as we drove through the City on the bus we did hop off for several sites. The first one was the Empire State Building. It was not until the tickets were printed that I understood that the pass only allowed for one visit and we REALLY wanted to see the view at night. Lucky for us, we were...

Jun 5, 2014 - First Night in the Big Apple

We checked out bright and early from our hotel and took a cab over to Amtrak. The train ride over was about 3.5 hours away and very smooth. The only problem was the amount of luggage we had and having to lift them over our heads to get them in the overhead compartments. Thank God for some decent men and the fact that chivalry still exists!! In New York, concrete jungle where dreams are made up - there's nothing you can't do.......!!! Hahaha! We are obviously now in New York!! So we got to the hotel we are staying in - The Park Central Hotel...

Jun 4, 2014 - Last Day in DC

Today was our last day in DC and I can say with all certainty that people can spend weeks here and see something new each and every day! Today we went on an all-day tour to be sure we hit every single important stop. We had seen the White House yesterday evening (right when they turned off the lights at 11:00 pm). We also got to see it during the day. We saw the WWII Memorial, Jefferson Memorial, and many of the memorials / sites that I already mentioned we saw on our own. We went on a boat cruise that was really non-eventful and a waste of...

Jun 3, 2014 - Monuments and Memorials at Night

We are all so glad that we ended up going on a night tour because the monuments / memorials we did see during the day are only magnified at night! The tour started at 6:30 and we did not get back until 11:20 - it is like non-stop running in order to see all the beauty and wonders of this District. We picked up some people for the tour from the Washington Hilton (where Reagan was shot). The people we picked up did not even know this about their hotel... I guess they do not advertise this fact much! We drove down several streets of just...

Jun 3, 2014 - Feeling Seriously Patriotic

Today has been super exciting! We got up and headed out to the Bureau of Engraving and Printing. We have been super conscious to walk everywhere so that we can try to burn off the calories that we know we will be happily consuming every night...hahaha! We got there and talk about complete lock down...WOW!! We saw how our money was made and it is really astonishing how much they make. I mean, DAMN, who the hell gets that all?!? LOL! I sat there mainly day-dreaming of how I could rob the damn place or AT LEAST rob it on the way to the Federal...

Jun 2, 2014 - Tired

Well, we got up at 6:30am (after only getting 3 hours of sleep). Yes, THREE HOURS! Kat was so excited that she could not sleep and kept talking and giggling. I finally gave in and decided if I could not sleep then my Mom should not be able to either! So we did the natural thing and started jumping on Mom's bed to keep her awake...LOL!! After getting ready I held up the group by trying to find a cup of coffee. The lines were outrageous everywhere we tried to stop (and there is a damn Starbucks on each and every corner)! I wonder if anybody...
