Dec 31, 2016 - The Adventure begins!

Sonora. After running around getting all the last minute stuff done and packing our bags, we picked up our granddaughter, Shaina, stopped for lunch and hit the road. We had to stop by Sally's to drop off the dog and then headed for Sacramento where we had a hotel room reserved for the night.

Sep 7, 2014 - Ride to Sonora

Our trip from Fort Bragg to Sonora, California was uneventful other than the changes in scenery and weather. The first leg of the trip was through beautiful trees. Then we passed through wine country with fields and fields of grapes. The last part of the day’s trip was through open landscape with a multitude of windmills.

Sep 17, 2013 - Sonora, CA

We met up with Les, Robin's father, this morning and left by cab for San Francisco Airport at noon. We flew on Qantas (American Airlines operating) to Los Angeles where we had a few hours to change terminals and catch our plane (Qantas) to Sydney, Australia. The flight to Australia was 14-15 hours long. It seemed like interminable night because we were following the night across the globe. We crossed the International Date Line so did not arrive until 9/19/13. (That was my 65th birthday!!!)

Well, we are finally on the road! After several days of delays and minor adjustments, and packing the motorhome for a seven month trip (not an easy task, I can assure you), we left Sonora Saturday (January 19, 2013) in our new 2013 Winnebago Sightseer 33C. We love our new home on wheels.

Feb 26, 2010 - Gold Country

Feb 25 64179 9:07 We are leaving Sacramento and are headed to Sonora. This is Gold County. First stop, find fuel. We do in Rancho Murrieta, unfortunately it is $3.09 a gallon and it takes just over 48 gallons to the tune of $150.00. Fuel mileage is only 8.24mpg. As we leave the valley we are in the foothills and can see the Sierra Nevada Mountains off in the distance. We have rolling hills, covered in green grass, scrubby trees and small rushing creeks. The sky is clear and you can see for miles. After turning onto SR49 we begin to climb...

Sep 20, 2009 - Coloumbia & Sonora

Saturday we toured our surrounding area with Bill & Sandy. We were camped just down the street from Old Towne Columbia State Park. Although this park is maintained by the State of California (and about to close down due to the State of California finances), it will still be open to walk around. There are many vendors in the old buildings and they will continue to operate. There was a festive atmosphere in the food and libation vendors and many people were trying their hand at panning for gold and shopping for trinkets and souvenirs. Then...

Jun 27, 2007 - Yosemite - WOW!

We got up early this morning, both of us were thirsty. So I'm sure that means we're not drinking enough water during the day! We turned on the TV and watched all the news reports about the fires (plural) around Lake Tahoe. So we dug out the maps and discussed other options. Prior to this morning, we had decided we wouldn't go the 200 miles south to go to Yosemite, but in deciding to try to avoid the fires, we changed our mind. What a wonderful decision that was! Yosemite is AWESOME! Beautiful! Majestic! Inspiring! Oh my, it is just too...
