Apr 14, 2017 - Santa Rosa, California

This is a quick update to let everyone know we have arrived. We had another 150 mile travel day to Santa Rosa, California. We will be staying here for a few days, we plan to explore one of our favorite places in California, the Bodega Bay area. We drove through Oakland, passing right by San Francisco. The traffic in the area was horrible as usual. :-) We could see the Golden Gate Bridge in the distance, I grabbed a quickie picture, but it was not that great. The Wi-Fi is very slow in this area, I will be adding pictures and more updates...

Oct 28, 2016 - Santa Rosa, CA Oct 24-26

The drive from Trinidad to Santa Rosa was beautiful but it rained the whole way and it was a little windy so it made for a long day of driving for Tom. We stayed at the Sonoma County Fairgrounds RV Park, which suited us fine – Rio too – but our spot was a little low so the longer it rained the deeper our personal lake got. That was no problem since we had flip flops too keep our shoes dry and we woud be spending a lot of our time at Terry’s house. Aaaahhhh – Santa Rosa!! We ate great. We went to a local Italian restaurant on Monday night...

Sep 11, 2016 - This is what it feels like to be 3 years old again!

Yesterday was lots of driving, back tracking over toward the center of the state from the coast. Over the hills again, going around the curves and people taking them way too fast. I was more than a little nervous. I wasn't afraid of Gary's driving because he was taking his time and taking the curves realistically, but I was afraid those screaming around us would crash and we'd smash into their back ends coming around a curve that we couldn't even see them until it was too late. Oh well, we survived, but we sure didn't check our blood...

Jun 27, 2016 - Monday Postcard 2

June 27, 2016 Road Trip Journal: Monday Postcard 2 We had a leisurely morning at Spring Lake since our next destination was about a 3-4 hour drive. Side Note: I had planned on making steel cut oatmeal for breakfast but the night before Alan told me to bring the oats and water to a boil, shut it off and let it sit overnight. It will be perfect in the morning. Yes, I was skeptical, but it was great. Nutty and not mushy or overcooked. You learn something new everyday. We arrived at Ancient Redwoods RV Park in Redcrest, CA about 4:00pm....

Apr 21, 2016 - at the fairgrounds

Al and Sue’s last day with us was a relaxing one. When you are looking forward to an 11pm departure for a fourteen hour flight, you want to begin the journey in good condition. The campground was a nice place to just hang and chat and enjoy the views of the sea and the sound of the surf. We had lots to talk about. They are close to retirement and thinking of a lifestyle like ours. Although their country is as large as ours, RV’ing is a different experience there. Most of the people live near the sea where the climate is temperate and mild....

Apr 6, 2016 - Last Lights in California

It’s Saturday and our first full day at Chinook RV Park. We arrived early yesterday afternoon and we were able to pull into a river front site. This park is right on the Klamath River and is in a beautiful wooded area. This is our second stay at this park and our third on this stretch of the Klamath River. Last time we were here in 2014 and we met our dear friends Barbara and Steve. In fact we are on the same site that they were on. Sure do miss them. Doesn’t seem quite the same being here without them. For the last few hectic weeks in...

Jun 9, 2015 - Sonoma Valley

Apr 18, 2014 - Peanuts

Works over so it time to see what’s in the area besides food and wine. We went to the Charles Schulz Museum this afternoon. Schulz was born in St. Paul, Minnesota in 1922 and moved to California in the 1960’s. Before the WWII as a teenager, Schulz enrolled in Art Instruction Institute correspondence course to learn about drawing and cartooning. I actually applied to Art Instruction Institute for the same course when I was in high school, but for whatever reason we never followed through. Schulz was drafted in 1943 and served in the army in...

Dec 29, 2013 - Merry Christmas to All

We left Arcata on December 18th, after celebrating Christmas with Bret & Jolene & Terra & Zane. One really special thing about December in the northwest is that it is crab season, so Buzz and Bret headed down to the docks to get us fresh crabs for our early Christmas celebration. It takes a little work to get into them, but what a wonderful treat along with some fresh bread and salad. We did our gift exchange and said our goodbyes until the spring. From Arcata we headed down to the Sonoma County Fairgrounds RV Park where we had stayed...

Nov 11, 2013 - Fun with Family but not with Cars

About 40 miles north of where we were staying in Larkspur is Santa Rosa, which was our next stop so made for a very easy driving day. But when we got there and went to disconnect the car from the motorhome, it would not start. The manager of the RV Park tried to jump it with his truck to no avail so we put in our call to our good buddy, AAA. They managed to get it started but said that there was a dead cell in the battery and it should be replaced. Since we had just bought it in January we were off to Walmart for service, which was...

Oct 4, 2012 - Time in Santa Rosa

We came into Santa Rosa last Friday, September 28th. We were welcomed with a wonderful going away party at my parent's place. It was very touching to see people I haven't seen in many years, and meet some new people who wanted to support my parents and send us off. The following night, our good friend Rhianna hosted a going away dinner. We both truly enjoyed the time we got seeing our friends from college. On Sunday, my parents decorated the house for Christmas. My mother, sister, and I prepared a German family dish called Weirenki. It was...
