Sep 28, 2016 - End of 2016 Trips

September 26 Monday morning we left Salem for Canyonville, Oregon and the Seven Feathers RV Park. The drive was an easy drive with excellent weather and light to medium traffic. We have driven this route numerous times and for some unknown reason this time Ross took notice of tthe road starting just south of Salem all the way to just north of Eugene, Oregon. This road is as straight as an arrow and almost as flat as a pancake and for the entire distance, about 100 miles, the motorhome cruise control was set at 60 mph and the brake was never...

We left Durnago around 0900 and arrived home around 1300. The drive was uneventful and the traffic was moderate. The road is pretty good until you get onto I 80 and the road deteriorates significantly. The drive is rather boring because you are in a desert called the San Joaquin Valley. This valley may be a desert but it grows a very large portion of this nations crops from fruits to grains and nuts (and some of them are also politicians, but that is another story). All with irrigated farms land. After returning home we emptied the...

May 26, 2016 - Beginning Our 2016 Motorhome Travels

We left San Ramon around 1230 after we left the dental office where we had our semi-annual exam and cleaning. The sun was bright and the traffic was moderate from San Ramon until we turned onto Interstate 505 in Vacaville. From Vacaville all the way to Red Bluff traffic was light and moving at or above the speed limit. The roads in California are pretty bad in general but the portions of I-680, I-80, I-505, and I-5 are not real bad and there are a few sections the were pretty good. We arrived at the Durango RV Resort in Red Bluff around...

I asked for a favor from Elden and Cherie that would they be willing to get started one hour earlier so that I could be sure that I arrived home before the nearby school let out because I didn't want to have to worry about running over some kid as I backed the motorhome into the parking space next to our house. They willingly agreed and we wee on the road by 0715. We stopped at the Bakersfield Flying J where Elden took on twenty gallons of very expensive diesel fuel at $2.759 per gallon. Elden's motorhome's fuel tank is much smaller than...

2015 New York Trip

Oct 19, 2013 - Away We Go

The packing is completed except for the last minute items and around noon time tomorrow we will be picked up by the Airport Shuttle for the ride to the San Francisco Airport. The Air France flight to Paris is a 10.5 hour direct flight that Ross is not looking forward to but the swim would be even longer. We change planes in Paris for a 1.5 hour flight to Venus, Italy where we board the Royal Caribbean ship the Legend of the Seas for twenty days. Entries to this blog may be spotty because we do not know how good the WIFI service will be on...

We arrived home at 1330 Thursday, September 26, 2013 after driving 10,909 miles, burning 1,447.792 gallons of diesel fuel, at a cost of $6,104.51. All number have been converted to US measurements where the miles, gallons and dollars were accumulated in Canada. We spent 109 days on the road and traveled through and/or camped in 20 States and 5 Canadian Provinces. We meet a bunch of really nice people along the way and camped and traveled with 26 other people for 26 days during our caravan tour of Cape Breton, Nova Scotia and...

Newfoundland 2013

Jun 8, 2013 - Getting Ready

Today is Saturday, June 8, 2013 and we are in the final stages of preparation for our sojourn to Newfoundland. Everything is packed except for the refrigerator which we will finish loading tomorrow with a few things Monday morning just before we head out. This afternoon we are traveling to Pelican Point Campground in Half Moon Bay, California but we are not taking our motorhomes. Our traveling companions to Newfoundland, Elden & Cherie Ables, are also traveling to Half Moon Bay but the four of us are driving in a car. The purpose is to...

Newfoundland 2013

Aug 15, 2012 - San Ramon, California

We took our time Tuesday morning and did not leave the Bordertown RV Park until 1000 AM. We missed all of the Reno commute traffic and were hoping for a relaxing drive across the mountains into the San Joaquin Valley and then home. However the relaxing trip ended just after crossing Donner Summit when we hit the construction zones on highway 80. Overall the traffic was moderate but the truck traffic was heavy and the construction zones had some very narrow lanes with trucks in front, rear and beside you going down steep grades and sharp...

We are now back where we started 4 months and 4 days ago after traveling 9,128.4 miles, consuming 1,239.2 gallons of diesel fuel, averaging 50.9 mph, with a total driving time of 179.30 hours, and averaging 7.4 miles per gallon. We had a great trip with only one major problem when the engine fan system system came apart on the second day out. With the exception of the last two weeks our health had been great and we enjoyed every minute of the trip. That said we are presently very tired and in recovery mode and we will be taking our time...

We are home. We left Red Bluff around 0930 and arrived home around 1430. We stopped in Lodi at the Flying "J" for fuel and bought lunch at the Subway sandwich shop there at the travel center. This has been a once in a lifetime trip for as neither of us intends to do this trip again. It was a lot of fun, not without some trouble, but still a lot of fun, especially since we traveling with the Ables and the Cox's, both of whom made really great traveling companions. All of us had some type of serious mechanical breakdown during the trip and...

Jun 13, 2010 - Getting Ready

Yesterday was our grandsons high school graduation and following the ceremony there was a party at the swim club our daughter's family belong to. Ross and Frank were flipping burgers, hot dogs and chicken all afternoon and there must have been over 100 people there. Ross told his our grand daughter she could use his camera and by the time the party broke up she had already taken over 200 hundred photos. Today we finish loading up the motorhome then pay another visit to our daughter's family in Walnut Creek. Ross will collect his camera and...

Sep 30, 2007 - San Ramon, California

Returned to my base of operations. Even managed to get the bike out for a ride in the California sunshine. The trip back came under the heading of 'what more can they mess up'. I flew from Richmond to San Francisco via Minneapolis with NW Airlines. The litany of problems started with a stuck door on the regional jet (a CRJ). That was twenty minutes delay. Then we had a medical emergency with a rather large black lady in distress which necessitated oxygen and a return to Richmond when half-an-hour into the flight. The lady and two children...
