Dec 28, 2015 - Tour Day

Yesterday was the official start of the Rally. We had an orientation meeting at 3 PM to let us know the rules and the when's and where's. It was also time to meet the dog walker and introduce them to Marley. We left strict instructions that Marley was not to be fed any rugs. Monday morning and we're up bright and early to be ready to board the tour bus at 7 AM. Traffic and accidents being what they are here, we stand in the dark and cold until the bus arrives at 8. Finally we're on our way into the city to pick up our guide for the drive...

Dec 26, 2015 - Christmas Week

I guess it's about time I updated this. We got here on Monday, the 21st. Tuesday was spent settling in and cleaning up a little. A wash and detail guy works this campground. He gave us a good price and after 5 hours work, our coach shines better than it did when we bought it. Everything is waxed and buffed and clean, probably until our first day on the road. We met our friends out here on Wednesday and went to a nice little place in Claremont which is a college town. The burgers were huge Christmas Eve, Marley had her staples out and got a...

Dec 21, 2015 - Change Of Plans #2

Well, due to the most recent mechanical issues, we decided to push all the way through to the Rose Parade Rally campground in San Dimas, CA. It was a 300 mile push in 5:30. Western Arizona and into California was mostly desert with a few small towns scattered along the way. It sure is easy to see how dust storms are a major concern out here. Once into California and past the desert we traveled through the Banning Pass. We picked up some impressive head winds traveling through here. We dropped down 3 gears just to maintain 50 mph. We also...

Oct 18, 2014 - Into the Inland Empire

We reluctantly left Silver Strand this morning and headed north up the 5 (I-5 for those of you outside of California). The road varies from 4 lanes to about 8 lanes wide in sections. For a Saturday, the traffic seemed extremely heavy, especially southbound where it looked like it was crawling or stopped from around La Jolla to around San Onofre (see the picture of the "boobs"). We were happy we weren't going in that direction, but we got our turn at San Clemente where the northbound lanes came to a halt. We crawled along until we got to an...

Feb 12, 2014 - Indio, Pomona and Playa del Rey, CA

We arrived in Indio at Desert Shores RV Resort a day early, after deciding not to stay in the dust in Quartzsite. They put us in our usual site - Buddy Pad#4 - we jokingly said we'd like to buy it (since we can't afford any of the other sites)! We are here at least for our free week that we won at last year's FMCA Rally. We touched base with our friends Bruce and Betty. Wednesday we went to Stuft Pizza for lunch. We'd been introduced to this restaurant in Old La Quinta last year and funnily enough our friend Tom and Marla from Surrey were...

Apr 1, 2013 - With Peter's family

Our time at Peter's was bookended by birthdays. Emma's first birthday was the first Saturday we were there and Abby's 4th birthday was the last Saturday we were there. WE had so much fun at each. Emma's was at her great grandpa's house with most of the family in attendance (about 70 people!) I had a VERY difficult time deciding which pictures to post! Abby's party was at Goofy's Kitchen in the Disneyland complex. Abby was soooooo delighted to meet Snow White and Mulan and the other Disney characters that were there. They were so wonderful...

Dec 27, 2012 - Rose Bowl trip

We finally made it to Los Angeles, CA. We are staying the night at East Shore RV Resort in San Dimas, CA. The traffic was not bad at all coming into the LA area; actually not as bad as Houston traffic. Tomorrow we'll go into Santa Anita Racetrack which is where we will stay for the duration of our time here. It is just about 15 miles from where we are staying tonight. Our next few days will be SO exciting and I can't wait for it to begin.

Jun 8, 2012 - Today

Yesterday after the drive on 10 I guess I was a bit frazzled and didn't mention some of our stops along the way. After Las Cruces, NM we stopped in Tucson at Lazy Days, extremely nice facility good wide spaces friendly people, a bit different from the Tampa facility, however they have no new lines of motor homes, all used or some that were new but a couple of years old. It would be a definite recommendation if you are in the area. Our stop in Quartzsite, AZ was in a very nice RV Park, however we were the only overnights, Quartzsite is the...

West trip 2012

Jun 7, 2012 - Long hot desert

We have finally reached cooler weather, the trip through New Mexico and Arizona was hot, dry and dismal; if I ever see another cactus it will be too soon. San Dimas is out of Pasadena/LA, we are in a City Park, very scenic with the mountains in the background. Maddie was thrilled to have grass again after all the rocks and dirt. Our dinner was out under the tree and we actually were a little chilly as the sun went down. The time zone change has us going to bed by 8:00 and up again around 5, since we will be on Pacific time for awhile I'm...

Jun 5, 2012 - East Shore RV Park

Richard, Martin and the guya were friendly and efficient as the repairs were made over a two-day period and we stayed at Alfateers with a 50-amp hookup for two nights. Having been relieved of a few thousand dollars we nevertheless happily headed the few miles down the road to East Shore RV Park next door to Bonelli Park and overlooking Puddingstone Lake in San Dimas, CA. We are now set up in a beautiful site with a great view of the lake. Coincidentally, Scott's friend, Jamie Watkins, who runs a production company, was working with a Disney...

May 29, 2012 - Drive to Los Angeles

It was a short drive (60 miles) to the Grand Canyon Railway RV Park in Williams. The park is designed to accomodate overnight stays and large rigs with long black topped pull-thru sites. We got there in plenty of time for dinner at a local restaurant. Jeff needed to be at the hotel lobby to check in for his 3:30 a.m. bus to the train platform for a 3:50 train to Albuquerque. But, when I checked the Amtrak website at 2:30, the train was more than three hours behind schedule. So we all went back to sleep and we dropped Jeff off at the hotel...
