Jun 1, 2017 - California Family Time

After navigating the Sierra Nevadas (which still had a lot if snow), we arrived at the SAC - West RV Park in Sacramento CA on 5/14. Chris had scheduled an appointment for 5/17 in Chico, CA to have an auxilary fuel tank added to our truck so that we can go longer distances between fuel stops (especially in Alaska). Before the appointment we enjoyed visiting with Pat's Aunt Mary Louise (her dad's brother's wife) and cousins Bill & Elaine and their daughter Debbie's family in Sacramento. We had a chance to do a little sightseeing in...

Alaska Or Bust 2017

Mar 29, 2017 - Catch up again

Mar 23, 2017¬ We are leaving Palm Desert, the wind is blowing and all the wind turbines are I motion. High on the hills are touches of snow even though the temps here in the valley have been in the 90’s. Then off in the distance are black clouds. It has threatened rain for the past 2 days. All of the rivers are stilling overflowing their banks and may not retreat for a long time as there is plenty of snow in the mountains and the weather is getting warmer. We get the rain coming through the valley, just barely enough to wash the window....

Feb 25, 2017 - At David's

Feb 25, 2017 Kathy has meetings all day for the church, David heads off to Galt to repair a broken faucet in his rental and Mike & I head to the shopping center. 1st is having my nails done, 2nd is groceries, 3rd is passport pictures. When we get back I wash the lower half of the RV, it looks as bad as the car did. Everyone gets home and it is leftovers for dinner. Then we watch several hours of Dinners, Drive-Ins and Dives, and then call it a night.

Feb 24, 2017 - Sacramento

Feb 24, 2017 We leave Dunnigan and head south. Talked with the RV park owner and she said that a lot of the residents were evacuees from the flooding. The park was spared. As we cross the Yolo Causeway it looks like Lake Pontchartrain, there is water everywhere on both sides. I find out later that the water is now over 1 foot lower than it was. We get to the kids and get parked. I have to say hi to all the dogs and pet them before they stop barking. Snickers bring me her ball to throw. First item of business is washing the car. Not even...

Feb 23, 2017 - Dunnigan

Feb 23, 2017 Just left Canyonville and as we climb the trees all have snow on them. They are beautiful. Looks like a winter wonderland. Lots of snow at Siskiyou Summit but the road is clear but wet. We are taking it easy. As we pass Lake Shasta it is higher than I have ever seen it. Saw some of the flooded areas Redding and Anderson. The rivers are high and running fast and out of their banks. Sun is out and that should help dry things out. Today is a long run; we left around 9 this morning and will get to David’s around 4. Not sure if he...

Oct 13, 2016 - 4th Update

Dear Friends and Relatives: Because we have a down time for about a week (i.e., not much of interest for each of you), I decided to educate you on the construction of wind turbines – which generate electricity. I have no idea how many of you have seen current wind turbines in person, but probably everyone has seen them on the news. I can’t recall seeing them on the east coast, but they are very prevalent in the west. Attached are a number of photos we’ve taken on the trip. Some are close enough to get some perspective as to their size, but...

Oct 11, 2016 - 3rd Update

October 9, 2016 (Sunday): Well, this day started off horribly! I got up and took my shower in the campground restroom. I returned to the trailer and started using my computer. Betty was just getting out of bed and putting on her slipper. She yelled and said her right hip bone just popped out of the socked. This was the hip she had replaced (for the second time) about 5 years ago. She was in excruciating pain and could do nothing but lay down to feel the most comfortable. The fire engine and ambulance crew arrived in less than 10 minutes. It...

Oct 8, 2016 - A day with the dogs

Kathy and I are headed off to the care home with Ben. He is a therapy dog. He is very gentle despite his big size and the residents love him. We stop first in the exercise room where he goes up to each person for attention. Then we are off to the rooms of those who don't dome to exercise. To finish off the day the four of us are going to the Black & white Fur Ball. This is an event sponsored by the local SPCA. You get a plate and a wine glass and just roam around eating and drinking and checking out the dogs and cats that are available for...

Oct 4, 2016 - Sacramento CA

We were back just in time to help Andy and his investors press the grapes. And we watched anxiously as Hurricane Matthew hit Central Florida. We were in constant touch with our neighbors. Fortunately the storm veered off shore at the last minute and we were spared the worst. Never even lost electricity. But Shelby, Richard's sister, had to evacuate from Sebastian to Tampa. We attended soccer games, ate at our favorite restaurants, visited with the grand kids, and went to Lucas' 11th birthday party and Avery's 8th birthday party. On October...

Oct 3, 2016 - Hanging out

I went grocery shopping today, by myself so I could get more in the car. I always forget that you have to bring your own bags here so I just put everything back in the basket and rolled it out to the car where I had bags. Kathy worked today and then had Vet school so I cooked dinner. The last time we were here I was too sick to do much of anything. So we had spaghetti, salad, fresh green beans, and an antipasto plate.

Oct 2, 2016 - Sacramento

I called the kids to see if it was OK to come in a day early, no problem, if possible be there by 4 as they were having an animal blessing. Figured it should not have been a problem until we ran into the first accident. Car over the embankment onto a frontage road, upside down and wrecked. But about 15 minutes later we came upon another accident. This one involved a motorcycle. The air ambulance landed in the field and as we approached you could see them carrying the person to the helo. Made it to David's just after 4:00 and I took Phoenix...
