Jun 20, 2016 - Riverside, CA

Now for the big catch-up. Think we last left you around the middle of May in Elephant Butte State Park, New Mexico. We enjoyed the wildlife and daily walks there along with our friends, Dave and Cara. We left NM and Dave and Cara and headed on to Tucson, AZ. We got cleaned up (both inside and out) and restocked and spent a day at the Desert Museum. Well worth it. A great walk around viewing wildlife and all sorts of cacti and other various plants. A quick stopover in Yuma (our hottest day to date at 105F (40.5C)) and on our way to San...

Jan 26, 2015 - March AFB, Riverside, CA

We departed one day earlier than planned so that we can have an extra here. It was a great drive of about 90 miles to March AFB just off I-215. We are actually parked across the freeway from March AFB at a retirement facility called Air Force Village West. It's a retirement community we've considered for our future and wanted to see it for ourselves. It sounded too good to be true when we read the brochures and checked out their website. As it turns out, this facility is everything we learned about and more. As the U.S. Armed Forces are...

Oct 26, 2014 - Reunion in Riverside

I finished work on Friday, but before getting back to full time fun I’ve got a few reports to finish. We took a break today to get together with Don and Maggie again. They were coming back from Big Bear Lake in the mountains and called to meet us in Riverside. Don, Sue, and I are all born and raised natives of Riverside - New Jersey. Driving into town we noticed there was a Fox Theater. The Riverside we grew up in had a Fox Theater. My memories of that one are sitting on the floor of the movie to watch Old Yeller and that my father was...

Nov 5, 2013 - There's No Place Like Home

Leaving Flagstaff, AZ, I-40 continues to climb westbound out of town. It was 27 degrees when we got started at 7 a.m., but as we climbed to about 7,300 feet, the outside air temperature dropped to 19 degrees! We were so grateful for climate control! By the time we made it to the California border, the wind had picked up again. For about 70 miles, we had head- and crosswinds and you could also see some dirt in the air. Good thing it didn't last long. We picked up another hour in California and ended up getting home on Tuesday the 5th at...

Sep 9, 2013 - The Journey Begins

Our journey began today at about 1 p.m. We've found that leaving midday means we usually don't have to deal with commuter traffic on the way out of town. The one thing we didn't plan on was construction traffic through Riverside on the 91. Now add in an accident... well, you get the idea. It took us at least 30 minutes just to get out of town!

Jul 31, 2013 - Mile 1,210.7 - Back Home

Day 5 - I got on the road this morning at about 5:15 a.m. and stopped for breakfast in Bishop, CA, at about 6:30 a.m. When I left Bridgeport, the temperature was 49 degrees. Time to check out the new jacket... AFTER I zipped closed all six air vents. After about 5 minutes, I noticed my back was freezing! Then I realized there were seven vents! I missed closing the vent across my back. Dummy! By the time I got to Mammoth Lakes, the temperature had dropped to 40 degrees. Just a bit chilly! When I stopped for breakfast in Bishop, the...

Apr 25, 2013 - Here, There and Everywhere

Greetings! We hope this latest trip journal finds everyone doing well and is happy and healthy. We have had some enjoyable adventures since our last posting, so here it goes…. We attended a NASCAR race at the Auto Club Speedway with Brandon and our friend, Pat Kuykendall. We hadn’t been to a race in quite a while and it was Brandon’s first experience; fun day for all of us, perfect weather, great people watching and an exciting finish. We arrived early and had a blast looking for as many weird hairdos, mainly guys with every variety of a...

Jul 15, 2012 - Pool and Barbeque Day

We woke up and swam at the Pool at Katkats house. Daddy picked us up from there after and we went to some house and had a barbecue there. We met our cousins Kiera and Miko for the first time. We were all playing truth or dare with Tita Rhea. She had us show our butts, lol. She dared us to go outside and say she was the prettiest Tita in the world. We also did some truth and she asked us why we love our moms and she was recording it and I think she was going to send it to my mom. There was a lot of family in that party. Summer was there too...

Jun 16, 2012 - Karen and Fred's first stop.

This is the first entry in our trip journal and hope we did it right. We finally left home at noon on Saturday June 16th. Our first stop was Brian and Gwen's home in Riverside. We spent the afternoon swimming and then went out to dinner to celebrate Father's Day for Fred and Brian and an early celebration of Thomas' 8th birthday (July 25th). Thomas and Joe Bear spent the night with us in our trailer parked in front of Brian and Gwen's home. We were up early the next morning, said our good byes and were on the road at 7:30. We are really...

Feb 14, 2012 - Ever wonder why it's called a "Flea" Market?

Well now we know!!! Over 2500 booths and 20,000 + people, they were thicker "than fleas on a dog's back!" Mike guessed it was all packed in 8-10 acres. Making a trip to the Rose Bowl Flea Market (one of the largest in the country) had been on my "bucket list" for years. It is held on the 2nd Sunday of every month at the Rose Bowl Stadium grounds and people come from all over the Western U.S. for the experience and bargains. But oh what an experience. Just about anything you would want to purchase you can find, from vintage clothing to...
