Nov 4, 2018 - Academy of Model Aeronautics Expo West 2018, Pomona, CA

Pomona, CA and the AMA Expo 2018 11-4-18 Part of the reason for coming to California at this time of year was to attend the Academy of Model Aeronautics Expo 2018 which was held in Pomona, CA. This event is a showcase of the modeling hobby with models of airplanes, boats, cars, trains, rockets, and the new kids on the block, quad copters, (aka drones). There were demos of all the different types of models, hobby vendors, guest speakers, and meetings of the AMA leadership and rank and file members. It was a three day modeling geek...

Nov 1, 2018 - Mesquite, NV to Pomona, CA

Mesquite, NV to Pomona, CA 11-1-18 Had a good time in Mesquite, NV but it’s on the road again to Pomona California. Thanks to having only coffee, protein bars and nuts for breakfast, we got rolling at around 9:00AM. Another perfect day for driving weather wise. We had a small glitch crossing Los Vegas when my iPhone map took us off I-15 into North Las Vegas then back on the freeway again for no apparent reason. Julie came to the rescue with her iPhone Google map and got us out of Vegas. She became full time navigator which was a good...

Sep 11, 2015 - Los Angeles County Fair

We got up early this morning to hopefully get pass LA before the bad traffic. We left at sun up (6am) and not a chance. Thank God we made it safely, parked our camper and was able to walk to the fair. The car museum was inside the fairplex. It was nice. We went to see "A Walk in the Woods." I enjoyed this film!

Feb 9, 2015 - Back to California - Chino and Pomona Trackside

We left Surprise AZ at 8:15 MST on February 1 in very thick fog. There was an amazing amount of traffic considering it was Sunday. About an hour out, it was sunny again. We arrived at Prado Regional Park in Chino CA about 2:30 PST (after two stops for fuel - to make sure it was topped up and a stop for lunch - grilled cheese and bacon sandwiches), just in time to set up for the Superbowl. One of us was disappointed in the result and one was not. We had scoped out this site the last time were here - it's farther from the women's prison (so...

Nov 10, 2014 - The First Leg

We were up at 6:15 on the morning of October 21st and ready to go by 7:00. It was still dark! We were hooked up and on the road by 7:15, and at the ferry terminal second in line for the 8:20 ferry. When we got to the Peace Arch border, there was about a 40 minute wait. As we found going North in the Spring, this is an ideal border crossing for a big rig like ours. There was a shift change in border guards just ahead of us and the new one asked very little - where were we going and for how long. Have a nice day! The coach handles extremely...

Dec 31, 2013 - Good Traveling and Good Friends

The next night we spent in Pomona at the Fairgrounds KOA. It was luckily an uneventful trip as the forecast had been for high winds and we had to cross the mountains into southern California over the “grapevine”. The grapevine is a long climb and then descent into the San Fernando Valley which is known for high winds; at times it is closed to high profile vehicles. We had no problem and Otto made the climb with remarkable speed considering how steep it is. We stayed at the Pomona Fairgrounds KOA, which is a nice park and fairly reasonable...

Jul 5, 2013 - Another day in Pomona

Another wonderful day in hazy LA. We got up and grabbed a nice breakfast and took care of some housekeeping duties. Then hopped in the car and drove over to my sisters house and spent the afternoon gabbing about old times and new. We went for dinner at my favorite restaurant, The Northwoods Inn. Wonderful food and a great atmosphere, but service has gone down some, what used to be all part of the meal, is now little charges if you didn't order the right meal. I thought I was flying on an airline, nickle and dime. Great food though. After a...

Jul 4, 2013 - First Stop See Sister

Headed off from Paso Robles cruising along Hwy 46 and then onto I-5. Stopped for fuel to top off the tank, $177, but it will last a while. Nice drive the whole way, the rig went up Grapevine OK, a little slow but so what, what has I got to rush off to. I was a little worried about coming down the steep grades with the added weight of a towed car, but the tranny and engine brake did all the work, I did not have to use the brakes once coming down. When I turn on the engine brake, any time I lift my foot off the gas pedal, the engine has a...

Nov 15, 2012 - Pomona and San Diego

We set out at 9:30 for Pomona. It was a nice warm day. We stopped for lunch at a truck stop in Barstow. Part way down the road the GPS said there were some traffic irregularities ahead. We saw a big bank of what we initially thought was fog. Then the traffic came to a standstill. We crawled along for about 2 miles then came to a complete stop. The smoke was quite heavy and billowing to start with but you could tell they were getting a handle on it. Four hours later, about 5:00 we started to move. We were only about 40 miles from our...

Dec 2, 2010 - Los Angeles here we are

From Banning, CA to LA it rained so hard the traffic on the ten freeway came to a stop, a little scary but livable. We had a great Thanksgiving with Erin, Amy and Harper. After we chowed down on some great food everyone pitched in to put up the Christmas tree and I must say it looks marvelous. We have a 2ft aluminum tree with mini ornaments and a little tiny angel on top, very nice. We spent some nice time with Phyllis and Bill my sis and her hubby. The nights have been a little cool but very nice in the day with sun and warm temps. We head...

Aug 8, 2010 - Yermo, CA - Pomona, Ca

A little behind in the writings but we don't always have internet. Anyway, we left Pomona camp heading for the hills, Beverly that is. We stopped in a little town (can't remember the name of it now!) but it was where McDonalds started. There was a museum where the original store was. It was neat to see the original menu - peanut butter and jelly sandwhich with fried, .25. A burger, fries and coffee in a real mug - .35. Then of course all the gimics - the toys given in the happy meals, the boxed toys sold at the stores for Christmas and the...

Jul 15, 2010 - Discovering Your Own Backyard

Greetings from sunny and HOT California....as you know, we are hanging around Southern California due to my mom's (Marilyn Tucker) injury. She is doing so much better but still needs some assistance with daily tasks. Her recovery is going remarkably well and she seems to do more and more for herself each day. Since our last entry we celebrated our country's birthday, had Kaia for the weekend, experienced the All-Star game FanFest and enjoyed an evening in a local park listening to music with friends. On the Fourth of July we visited my...
