Jul 8, 2016 - Point Arena, CA - A Beautiful Drive Up the CA Coast

(Ron Writing) We got a late start this morning. There are no hookups in this campground and running generators isn’t allowed until after 10 AM. Since we usually need electric in the morning to make coffee and toast or use the microwave, we just slept a little later than usual. Then Elena made smoked salmon omelets and cornbread - yum. We left about noon and headed north on Hwy 1 which winds right along the coast. It was a day of slow driving on a very narrow two lane highway with many sharp curves and steep grades. Apr 15, 2009 - April 14th Bodega Bay to Point Arena

It started out bright and brisk (45 and 40 - 50 mph winds) and didn't change much. At our first stop at Sonoma Coast SP we were literally blown off the beach by cutting sand. At many stops along the way were could barely open up the car door - but the wind didn't stop us - the ocean views were spectacular. We pulled off at most turnouts and SP's along the way north with each view better then the last. The size and force of the waves were astounding.
