Nov 8, 2017 - Patterson CA

It was a good day even waking up to light rain. We drove Hwy 99 to our destination today, only jumping on the I-5 for an hour or so. In the morning we head back to 99 and continue our goal of Bakersfield. Love Hwy 99 away from that awful Interstate,so much more to see as we drive thru the small towns. We seen flocks of birds of all types today sitting in the rice fields north of Yuba City. Fruit trees and various nut trees ,agriculture of all kinds. The highlight every time we pass thru this area is Yuba City, I should say the "Chickens" of...

Mar 30, 2017 - WINDY and cool

Well day 2 of return trek complete. What a day it was too, winds on the nose 30 kts plus and temperature never above 70F, so hunt is on for long pants and warmer tops. Hope the winds abate tomorrow as we continue northward. Gas still holding about 2.50$/gal even here in Calif which is good. Caught a bit of island news the other day, a shooting in Courtenay and bakery fire, lots of action for small town. Not much more for tonight folks see canucks are done for the year, long golf season I guess. Playing some hockey in China in the fall tho,...

Into the sun 16/17

Jan 3, 2017 - Almost

Darn we almost believed we had outrun the rain, almost but not s0 fast my friends. But as they say it is a warm rain lol. At best tho it has washed a lot of the road dirt off we were covered in from going thru the passes. Weather is due to improve tho in days ahead, but my magical 70F for shorts seems a ways off yet. Its nice being back on flat roads again, miles and miles of orchards, rice fields and seems to be a lot of cattle herds we hadn't noticed before. Saw our first chain gang at work today, gotta love the correctional system down...

Dec 28, 2015 - Sacramento to Patterson CA

We left Florida just as it was starting to get cooler. So it was another flight through Denver to Sacramento; Uber to Woodland; hook up the RV and head out to Patterson CA. We quickly unhooked just as it was getting dark and drove to Wal-Mart to stock up. $196 later we went to Ernie's Taqueria, purportedly the best restaurant in Patterson. It was a real dive run by Mexicans and most of the clientele spoke Spanish. The food was authentic Mexican and a little spicy.

Dec 18, 2015 - Kit Fox RV Campground

Hallelujah, we have found the sun. After another hour of pouring rain this morning the clouds parted and there it was. The Sun, sunglasses came out, Molly was outstretched in her travelling spot on the dash and the rest of the day felt good. The temp only went to 67F but it was good. Will start looking for a truck wash tomorrow onward as we are filthy. I even went so far as to hookup the ice maker so we are now officially on holidays I guess. Made our requisite stop in Corning at the Olive Pit, so have our winter supplies of Olive treats...

New route 15/16

Jan 19, 2015 - Patterson, CA

Another foggy day as we head to Patterson, CA staying at Kit Fox RV Park. We stop here as it is about 1/2 way between Corning and Bakersfield. Lots of improvements have been made to I-5 but much to go. Steve and Linda took off from us and headed to Fresno to visit Steve's cousin. They will catch up with us in Bakersfield. This park and Seven Feathers RV Resort have raised their rates since last year, but our diesel prices have more than made up for that. Seeing some really "nice" diesel prices which will make this trip a little more...

Oct 29, 2014 - Kit Fox RV Campground

Pulled up to a new locale today, didn't want to do a long day so split the difference and stopped here literally in the middle of nowhere. Got out of the rig and boom the mid 80 temps hit us in the face, god I love the south and we aren't even in the south yet lol. Set up camp and having a few ice pops when the local sheriff stops for a chat. Interesting fellow, 33 yrs on the job and I think I could even out run him except for the GUN. 3 guys on duty to cover a city of 30,000 people that's pretty thin in my books tho. He was explainbg the...

Jun 25, 2014 - OTRA - CA - Patterson

I was almost a bit afraid to hit the road today considering we had trouble our first 2 days on the road but we've got to keep moving if we plan to get to Oregon and Washington by July. So, on the road by our normal 10:00-ish for the beautiful drive to our next stop in Patterson, California. Short run up a much-improved CA-99 then west on CA-198 to I-5. From there it was an easy 100-mile run north through the San Jaquin Valley where they grow all sorts of neat crops and trees. We passed several miles of what appeared to be cherry tomatoes...

Jan 19, 2014 - Patterson, CA

This was just a "sleep over" at Kit Fox RV Park as we didn't want to travel 400 miles to Bakersfield from Corning. Not a bad park except we pulled in early enough to watch the 49ers and Seahawks play and we were surrounded by loud 49er fans. The second half did, however, get quite quiet in the park. Congratulations to the Seahawks even though Richard Sherman doesn't represent them very well. Lots of large store warehouses here including Amazon.

Oct 25, 2013 - Shake, rattle and roll...Part II

Well, today we found the mangled house shaking California highways we were dreading and Juanita was cringing every mile along the way. Fortunately the cracked, pot holed nasty stuff pretty much ended when we reached I-5, but today had me wondering why I keep doing this to myself. I said "never again" in the spring, yet here we are for Part II. The drive from Vacaville to the Kit Fox RV Park in Patterson was only 112 miles, but I needed the short journey today to make up for the stress of moving through the SF Bay Area and getting up before...

Nov 3, 2011 - Our home, wherever we may park her

I woke up at 0830 and Sgt. John said we had to hustle as we had to be out by 1000. I looked at him with eyes of a woman who has not yet had her first cup of coffee. Actually, check out time was 1100. Ya gotta love him, he just wants to get down the road. He has not let the fact that we are not on a time frame compute in his head yet. We headed out at 1030 and drove to Patterson, California. Since we are staying here just the one night, we did not get a chance to see any of the city. We took a walk around the campground and met a couple from...

Yippee Tyo's!

Sep 26, 2011 - Patterson, California

September 26Today we begin our final tourist visit of 2011. This visit will be to Patterson, California, the Apricot Capitol of the World (so they say). We'll spend five days and four nights here then off to Phillip's Ranch, CA for a week long visit with our daughter, Teresa and our son Jay. While Patterson considers itself the Apricot Capitol of the World, they are also among the largest growers of Almonds in the world. In California, there are 750,000 almond bearing trees which account for nearly 80% of the worlds entire almond supply....
