Jan 1, 2018 - Day 4 Rose Bowl Parade

We started our day meeting the tour bus at 5:30 am. It was a chilly 54 degrees and even though I had two long sleeve shirts and a sweatshirt, I was still cold. But everyone on our bus was in good spirits and we arrived at the at the Pasadena Community College where our bleacher section was located. We were packed in like sardines, but as the sun warmed our backs and a cup of coffee warmed hands (and woke me up),the parade started! I can't post all 95 pictures that I took, but I will post a few of my favorite. It was a one time experience...

Apr 23, 2017 - Visit Dr. Tim, Letty, & family

On the way to Nephew Dr. Tim and family we were able to meet up with Connie and have a nice walk and chat and even some exercise! A fine dinner at the Leifer residence in Pasadena and catchup on family doings, goings on. Wonderful seeing and hearing about the gals (and you too, Tim!). Letty celebrated her birthday as well the day we left, as seen in photos.

Jan 2, 2017 - The Tournament of Roses

We got up early in San Diego (4:30 am) to make the two hour drive to Pasadena. No major problems as we arranged for parking about a mile from our reserved bleacher seats. Many people had camped out on the edge of Colorado Blvd to get the best "free" seating. We did enjoy the elevated location especially to see the bands better. Well worth the $50 each cost. Got there early enough to enjoy a nice breakfast before trekking on to the seats. I will post more pictures a little later when my limits are greater (i can only post 150 pictures in the...

Jan 1, 2017 - Parade

I ended the year with an RV Rally, called “Rose Parade HOP”. Unlike other RV Rallies that I’ve attended, this one had no seminars about RVs. Instead, this was an “event” rally. For this rally, we came together to experience the Tournament of Roses parade in Pasadena, California. This is an annual rally run by the Escapees RV Club. It was limited to 46 attendees so that we could all fit on one bus. They stopped accepting reservations months ago. About half of the attendees were full-timers. It was great to get the chance to spend some time...

Jan 3, 2016 - Warner Brothers Studio

The Rally is over this morning. We had a Continental Breakfast and then bid goodbye to the other members of our group, most of whom are leaving today. This afternoon, we headed out to Burbank for a tour of Warner Brothers Studio. It turned out to be a great day for a tour. It was virtually empty. First was a tram tour through the back lots. We saw how they reuse and reconfigure the street scenes to fit whatever the filming needs are. Then it was over to the sound stages. We had a walk through of the sets where The Big Bang Theory is filmed....

Jan 2, 2016 - Post Parade

This morning it was off to Victory Park in Pasadena. This is the finish point of the Rose Bowl Parade. All the floats are here for two days for people to get a close look. Being on a tour bus we got to go in an hour before the park was open to the public. It was quite a bit of walking but ll 42 floats are there. When I get a good internet connection, I'll post pictures and send an update notice about the pictures. This evening was a catered farewell dinner in the tent at the campground. All in all, this escorted tour was the best way to see...

Jan 2, 2016 - Rose Bowl

In our 8+ years of traveling in our motor home, we only had one previous critter incident. We had stored the rig outside of Dover Air Force Base for three months while we hopped around Europe. Came back to a family of six mice living in our RV's ceiling. They chewed up some wires knocking out my a/c and it took a month to get rid of them. Every time I thought we had them beat, I could hear the pitter-patter of their little feet in the ceiling. I finally stuffed moth balls in the ceiling which drove them down to the main area where we caught...

Jan 1, 2016 - Parade Day

Okay, there aren't too many days where we're up and out, but the bus is leaving at 5:15. We got into town and parked with about 30 other buses in a supermarket parking lot and then walked over to the bleachers. Our $95 tickets bought us 18 inches of space. We were just beyond all the tv cameras and across the street from a car dealership, selling Rolls Royce, Bentley, Maserati, and other lower price cars. The crowds were enormous. People have been camped on the sidewalks since noon yesterday. There are RV's in the car dealership lot across...

Dec 31, 2015 - New Year's Eve

I'm posting this well after New Year's, it's been busy here and this site is not cooperating with posting pictures. I'll keep at it and eventually get everything on here. New Year's Eve day we boarded the bus and went to the Rose Bowl Stadium. Outside are several large tents where they were putting the final touches on the some of the floats. Others had been moved outside to await judging. The amount of detail is amazing. The amount of work that must go into each float is enormous. For example, the tires on the car on the Downton Abbey...

Dec 30, 2015 - Bandfest And Huntington Library

Today was a trip to Pasadena City College Stadium for Bandfest. We saw performances by four of the bands in the parade. There was a fifth band scheduled, coming from Guatemala. But there was a problem with visas and they had to cancel their appearance. We saw four very large and very good high school bands. The weather was perfect but we were facing into the morning sun so pictures were difficult. After a box lunch, we were off to the Huntington Library. This is a museum with extensive gardens of several different cultures. We wandered...

Dec 29, 2015 - Equestfest

Today was a trip to the LA Equestrian Center and a preview of all the horses and riders who will be participating in the Rose Bowl Parade. Included in this were a Marine Corps mounted color guard, Wells Fargo Stagecoaches, National Park Service Rangers, and the Dakota Thunder Shires, a six horse team of show draft horses. A group from Medieval Times, Mexican Charro and even the Budweiser Clydesdales put on performances.

Jun 15, 2015 - Malibu, Venice Beach, Hollywood
