Mar 18, 2010 - Day 6 - Exploring Rat Pack Country

First I want to thank everyone who has left a message for me. Those messages and the support I receive from members on the NuWa Owners Forum (my 5th wheel manufacturer) give me motivation to carry on. More than once I've asked myself what in the h@%# (my grandsons' kindergarten teacher reads this :-)) am I doing? More than once I've questioned whether or not I'm really going to be able to pull this off. Will I be able to handle breakdowns/flat tires/wrong turns/you-name-it? Your support truly gives me just enough confidence to hook up and...

Mar 17, 2010 - Days 4 & 5 - Sky Valley/Joshua Tree Nat'l Park-Days 4 and 5

Yesterday was a travel day from Bakersfield to wherever I am right now. It's called Sky Valley...I'm close to Palm Springs, Desert Hot Springs, and all those other little communities that have street names like Bob Hope Drive and Gene Autry Avenue. The park where I am staying is huge and beautiful. Manicured grounds, lakes with fountains and mallards and black swams with snow capped mountains as a backdrop. My spot, however, is on a narrow street, tiny...have to park the truck crosswise in front of it and when I asked for a spotter...after...

Mar 10, 2009 - San Diego, CA & Yuma, AZ

It seems that time goes so quickly and I don’t get this journal done on a regular basis. It frustrates me a bit but here goes with another episode of our travels. While at Pio Pico we took a couple jaunts into San Diego. They have a trolley ride around the city where they point out the items of interest. This is a great way to get a feel of where things are and what you’d like to visit later. On the trolley ride we could get off and on all day and then catch another trolley until we got back to our original spot. The four of us decided to...

Feb 14, 2009 - Ramona Canyon, CA

As we travel south we expect to encounter warmer weather. Not necessarily so!! Thankfully, it is much warmer here than it is in McMinnville since they have had a rough winter with lots of snow and rain. After staying our allotted three weeks in Wilderness Lakes where we visited Old Town Temecula and spent some time at Diamond Lake we drove a little south to Ramona, CA. This is not a Thousand Trails Park but is Resorts of Distinction in which we also have a membership. At first we didn’t like the park because of its narrow roads and...

Jan 16, 2009 - Palm Desert

We can’t believe it’s been so long since our last Journal entry. We are back in Wilderness Lakes at Menifee after spending 3 weeks Palm Desert. The days have been sunny with cool nights –so pleasant – especially after hearing what the rest of the country is going through with nasty weather. Our friends, Dale and Rita arrived in Palm Desert a few days ahead of us and were able to semi-hold a spot next to them on the day of our arrival. Just so happened that the people next to them were pulling out at the same time we were coming in so – Wow...
