Apr 27, 2019 - Work is Over !!!
Yesterday was my last day of work for the season and we're in the final stages of getting things packed up so we can say "adios" to Palm Springs and the Coachella Valley. We've been here for the best part of 8 months and we are leaving about a month earlier than last year. We saw and felt temps reaching 112 degrees before we left last year and already we have had several days of triple digit temps so it's best to leave before its getting too hot. - Our current plan is to volunteer at Caballo Lake State Park in our beloved New Mexico. This...Jump to full entry
Feb 19, 2019 - Palm Desert
Day 42 - Tuesday 19th February The sun is shining again, the sky is crystal clear & the nearby snow capped mountains are spectacular, a lovely day. This is going to be a rest day after the travelling of yesterday plus I get to play Pickleball at last. This is the first camp where we have seen anyone using the courts. They have six here & by 8.30am all were being used. A friendly bunch with a mixture of men & women, Americans & Canadians plus me, a lone Englishman. After the Pickleball action I went for a shower then a swim followed by a...Jump to full entry
Feb 5, 2019 - I've Been Sick
My being sick is no excuse for not writing in my journal the entire month of January but that's the one I'm using and I'm sticking to it. I have been sick this past week and finally getting over it, I hope. Head cold/Chest cold and just feeling like crap. When you have COPD all the congestion it's makes it hard to breathe. I've been having good nights lately and that helps a lot. I have to get better today, I have to work tomorrow. I missed two days last week and I'm anxious to get back to work. - In my last entry I mentioned that there was...Jump to full entry
Dec 30, 2018 - Update on all this BS.
Earlier this month my journal entry talked about the 12 volt electrical problem plus the roof leak when it rained. After talking it over with one of the repair people that come into the park to work on rigs, I figured that it was maybe just a bad connection so what I did was cut off the burnt end and reconnected the wires back into the fuse panel and I think I solved that problem but if it happens again there needs to be new main wires run because there isn't enough of the old wires to even cut off another 1/4 inch. That's the way the RV...Jump to full entry
Dec 6, 2018 - Oh Crap....
Oh Crap, and that's putting it mildly. - We've been smelling an unusual odor in the RV lately. Sort of a burnt plastic smell. Well, when I came home from work yesterday during the rain....I'll get to the rain later....the smell was more intense because of the humidity. I checked the breaker box/fuse panel with the palm of my hand and it was warm to the touch above the 12 Volt fuses. I could see the 2 main heavy wires coming into the panel were brown and slightly burnt so I disconnected the battery and the converter which converts 120 Volt...Jump to full entry
Nov 25, 2018 - I DID TRY......
Yes, I did try to do a journal entry on Thanksgiving but it "timed out" and I lost the entire entry. I keep forgetting to "save" as I go along and bingo I loose everything I worked on. There I just saved it so far. - I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving. We did, after I worked all day I came home to a delicious ham dinner. I know, what about the "Thanksgiving Turkey" ? Well Judy decided we would have a "Holiday Ham" and I'm glad she did. I like ham better. There I just saved it again. - I'm sure you all remember that we had to replace...Jump to full entry
Oct 18, 2018 - First Month Done
I already have a month done on our 8 month job here at the RV park. Only working 3 days a week is almost the opposite of working a real life job. I work three 8 hour days and have Sat-Sun-Mon-Tues off. In real life...it's like having a holiday weekend every week but even better with 4 days off. - I just bought tickets for the Cathedral City Hot Air Balloon Festival. Actually the festival is free but I got tickets to watch the balloon glow on the rooftop of one of the buildings with a catered BBQ dinner. During the ascension of the balloons...Jump to full entry
Oct 5, 2018 - Indian Canyons & Palm Springs Tram
Very active day. Started out the morning at the Indian Canyons. This is apparently on an Indian Reservation for the Cahuilla Indians. It basically operates like a state park. Small admission fee, lots of hiking trails. I started out by taking the Victor Loop. This hike heads out Palm Canyon Trail then swings back to the start via the Victor trail. The loop is 3 miles long. The first mile on the Palm Canyon Trail is mostly shaded by the large, at times rather dense Palm trees. However, the 2 miles return trip is out in the open. You’d have...Jump to full entry
Oct 4, 2018 - "I've Been Through the Desert..."
I turned east today so technically I guess I’m headed home although I still have 7 weeks to go. Today, my destination was ultimately Palm Springs but I wanted to swing by Slab City near Niland, CA first. Hit a little bit of rain east of San Diego. I believe this is the first rain I’ve had since Vancouver and it wasn’t anything to write home about. Didn’t take long out of San Diego on I-8 for civilization to disappear. So now, since I stopped talking about traffic, I’m going to start in on the terrain again! I went over some mountains that...Jump to full entry
Sep 22, 2018 - First Work Week Done.
I got my first work week behind us now. It was not easy when I got accustomed to being lazy over the 4 summer months. I know, summer is only 3 months long but when you live in Paradise it seems like summer all the time. - We had problems with one of our roof mounted air conditioners and had to have it replaced. Ouch!!! $1866 installed so I guess it's a good thing I'm working. With the temps in the hundreds since we arrived it was a huge burden lifted when the new unit started blowing the cold air. We can stay very comfortable with one most...Jump to full entry
Sep 8, 2018 - We Arrived Safely.
We arrived safely at our winter destination and got the RV set up in our leased site. It was a struggle because of the temps but "WE" did it. Judy has been giving me a helping hand now to get set up outside, I would have a hard time without her. Maybe I'll keep her around a while longer. She's the love of my life, I only wish our destiny would have brought us together sooner. We had such a "fantastic" life together when we were younger. We still have a fantastic life but no more dancing the night away like we use to. - Let's fast forward to...Jump to full entry
Mar 14, 2018 - Our New Furrion Oven
When we bought our new 2006 Elite Suite it did not have an oven in it, just a convection Microwave. My wife, Judy, wanted an oven so that was included with the purchase. We did not specify what we wanted and the dealer put a Amana in that was a POS from day one. We lived with that until a couple weeks ago when I yanked that POS out and started my search for exactly what we wanted. We wanted a Stainless Steel so it would match the MW and Fridge that we had already replaced over the years. Next the most important thing was it had to have a...Jump to full entry
