May 24, 2016 - Marina/Monterey to San Jose to Pacifica

Do you know the way to San Jose? We left Marina this morning heading for Pacifica which is just south of San Francisco. We started on Highway One and then were on 101 for most of the way. At one point, in Castroville, we were at elevation 20 and the lowest we saw was 19 feet. We stopped in San Jose to tour the Japanese Friendship Gardens. It was a pretty place, but most of the flowers were not yet blooming. There were numerous brightly colored gold fish in the ponds. We hit a little rain along the way, but it was light and did not last...

Mar 30, 2016 - Back in the Bay Area, Pacifica, CA

We have finally made our way back home to the Bay Area. We have booked our stay at the SF RV Resort in Pacifica for 1 month to take care of doctors and put our house up for sale. Our site, #59 faced the ocean and is about 50 feet from the cliff. One row of site ahead of ours had been closed down due to the eroding cliff slides. The first few weeks were great. The sun was out. The temp was in the low 70s with a slight breeze. We spent time visiting with family and enjoying the Pacific Beach Trail. On my walks, I saw several gray whales,...

Today, we started out very early. We have a big day ahead. We are driving to Stockton, California where we are renting a car and driving 2 1/2 hours to Muir Woods National Monument. So, let's get going. 12:00 pm; yeah, we are in Stockton. We setup home at Walmart and went to Enterprise to rent our car. We got a Nissan Versa. After lunch, we get into the car with Rosina driving and Kathy navigating. Art and Vinny doing what they do best, giving directions from the back seat! We get to Mill Valley and this switch back road is barely big...

Nov 28, 2011 - San Francisco

After enjoying the Redwood Forest for a couple of days and two weeks of the entire Oregon and Washington Coast, it was time to hit the big city again and get our fix of city life. We got an early start on Monday morning and decided we could make it 350 miles all the way to San Francisco.. We were making great timing heading down the 101 highway with some more drives through the Humbolt Redwood Forest with twists and turns and then down into Eureka California. Once we got through Eureka California by about 50 miles, we started to smell...

Jun 22, 2009 - Morgan Hill to Pacifica

We moved from Morgan Hill to Pacifica on Sunday, June 21st. After back tracking about 20 miles we returned to the coast through Watsonville. The back tracking also allowed us to avoid the San Jose traffic. The trip was uneventful, though there was much more traffic than we had experienced along the coast. There were no spectacular scenes and we arrived in Pacifica about noon. Pacifica is a bedroom community located on the coast southwest of San Francisco. We are staying here a week to permit us to explore San Franciso.

Jul 15, 2008 - Pacifica (San Francisco), CA

We arrived at about 4:30 PM after a great ride through the rest of the Redwoods and then through the wine country of California. Route 101 which is the only road we were on all day goes from 4 lane divided highway to just 4 lanes to two lanes to winding country road since they were not allowed to cut any redwoods when building it. That means we went from 65 mph to, in some places, 30 mph except on the 90 degree turns 20 mph. In some places the road is only about 22 feet wide between giant trees. As you get into the wine country the trucks...

6-15-08 into Pacifica We made it to the CG today after a white knuckle drive through a small part of the city and after only having to turn around once. Not bad after 2500 miles eh? We are very thankful to a fellow traveler in Klamath for sharing his knowledge of the area and the roads NOT to take. Without his advice we would have fallen victim to the horrible traffic that is San Francisco. As it was we only scratched the surface and not the MH. Checked in early (around 10am) and our site was available so it was no problem getting in and...

Jun 1, 2008 - Pacifica, CA

The trip from Sequoia National Park to Pacifica, CA was shorter than we planned. It took something like 4 hours or a little more. Thanks to Mrs. Butterworth we managed to navigate the maze of highways and overpasses that mark the west coast of well populated California. Matt’s place is in Pacifica, CA which is naturally on the Pacific Ocean. His apartment is only a block or two from the Ocean and the town affords some beautiful views of the Pacific. It is a typical one bedroom apartment with a pool overlook. We met up with Abed and Dunkel...

Dec 26, 2007 - Smallish Blessings

Blessings, y'all. Sorry about my long delay between blog posts. Don't know where the time went.....it's somewhere with my reading glasses and odd socks, I suppose. More on the subject of time, later. ANY-how, 2007 has been a great year for Irene and I. It's not often one gets to "live the dream" and while the RV life may not be your dream it's turned out to be ours. And it's a dream that maybe we can keep having, health and stock market willing, for awhile or even longer, which would maybe be the best part. But this dream, while all good,...
