Apr 11, 2014 - Flower Show in Pacific Grove

Another great visit to Pacific Grove! The coastline here is always beautiful but the flowers right now are amazing and Pam spent some quality time with her camera. We did one of our favourite cycles from Pacific Grove to Carmel along the coast and 17 mile drive. Can't beat that scenery! Also played a fun game of golf at the Pacific Grove Municipal course, a bargain at $50 compared to the $500 to play at Pebble Beach just down the road. Really interesting playing through the dunes on the back 9. Lots of dining options here but our favourite...

Oct 15, 2011 - Riding and Golfing on the Monterey Peninsula

As we headed South from the Avenue of the Giants the temperature started to increase and we decided it was finally time for some AC. That's when we found out the AC in the van isn't acutally working. Bummer. So we drove down the highway in the 96F heat at 65mph with the windows down. We'll have to get that fixed before we hit the desert! It was a hot ride and luckily we were able to get a great rate at the Sonoma Hilton in Santa Rosa so we stopped there for the night and cooled off in the pool. The next day we continued on our hot and...

Apr 13, 2011 - Central California Coast

We have spent eight days absorbing the magnificent beauty of Pacific Grove, Monterey, and Carmel by the Sea. Since our arrival, Corky's daughter, Jill, son-in-law, Wally, and grandson, Miles have treated us to non stop entertainment!! The people are overwhelmingly friendly with the communities giving off an air of down-home. "The Good Ole Days", held in downtown Pacific Grove was a good way to view a cross section of the community. Most interesting were the wares/crafts on display and the wafting smells of good food cooking. There was even...

Jan 6, 2010 - Finally Spent more than a Day in One Place

Driving south all day, occasionally stopping to let Moo out or to eat or shop, Heather and I finally fetched up in a town that I had wanted to go to for a long time, or so I had thought. It was late when we arrived and having already eaten in Salinas at the Red Lobster there, we needed no food and had managed a shower earlier at a Gold's gym while looking for a REI. We very quickly found the perch that we would use for a couple of days but Heather was sketched out by it and so we continued to search for about an hour. When nothing else very...

Jul 27, 2008 - California

Weeeellllll... We finally made it to Pacific Grove for a couple of easy days relaxing at the Haylings. It was pretty nice seeing the "other" ocean for a change. I had concluded somewhere between the grand canyon and vegas that California was home to the worst drivers I had ever seen. However upon entering The state i realized its really not their fault. They're trained to drive that way by the never ending labyrinth of one way streets, starting and stopping freeways and less than 90 degree turns, which although exciting almost caused the...
