May 31, 2014 - Our RV Lifestyle

Some of you have asked what it is like traveling in an RV so we thought we would share pictures with you so you can see for yourself. We travel in the coach with our car following behind on a Dolley. We travel from one RV site to another in the coach; set up our area as you see in the last photo; and then head out in the car to tour the area where we are currently staying. So far we have traveled just over 3,000 miles in the RV and 3,800 in the car over the past 6 weeks. Believe it or not but we have quite a bit of space for storage and...

We kind of slept in today because we had nothing to do until we headed into Hollywood to have lunch with Walter. The lovely wife did a load of laundry and I did some computer stuff and we finally wheeled out of here just before 11:00 for what Mr. Google Maps said was gonna be a little over 13 hour's drive due to traffic. Just kidding. Mr. GM said just over an hour and he was pretty close, we parked in the garage off Sunset Boulevard just a little after noon. We have known Walter’s parents since I started on the F.D. in 1979 and Kyle and...

Westbound Again

Jun 14, 2012 - Orange CA

Not a whole lot of excitement today, but it was still a good one. We left about 9:30 and drove the 10 minutes from the campground to the Crystal Cathedral, which is a church that you may have seen on TV over the years. It was the home of one of the first nationwide televangelists but according to the local news, they have had financial problems in the last couple years and in fact the property was recently sold to the Catholic Church. The church looks kind of worn inside – the carpets are kind of dirty, the seats are worn and it needs some...

Westbound Again

Jun 13, 2012 - Orange CA

We will never complain about South Florida traffic again – ever. Chicago? Horrible. Washington D.C.? Miserable. Atlanta? Legendarily miserable. Here? The all-time worst of the worst. This morning was bad – the GPS said it would take 45 minutes to get from the campground to Hollywood for our tours. It took us 90 minutes. That’s bad. But it took us 2 hours and 15 minutes to get back home. Same 45 minute trip – 135 minutes. And it has become painfully obvious that there are just too many cars for the freeway system here and I will tell you...

Westbound Again

Jun 12, 2012 - Orange CA

Well, we apparently needed refreshing because we didn’t wake up till almost 9:00. Now, just to be clear, me sleeping till 9:00 is unusual, Michele sleeping till 9:00, is not. This all means that we got a late start to our day. After we finally did start moving, we had some phone calls to make and some research to do so we didn’t leave the bus till almost noon and headed to the Angels stadium to see if we could do the tour today. We found out that we could, but not until the 1:30 show which worked out OK. The tour took us to see their 2002...

Westbound Again

Jun 11, 2012 - Orange CA

We had a plan for today and except for one little detour and a traffic jam, it kinda worked out. Let me explain. My tour guide had plotted out a list of things to do this week and since the Dodgers were playing tonight, she had worked out a trip to the beach, then a big loop ending at the game. The security system gets overtime for any hours over 10 in a day, so in order to not have to deal with that and get the sightseeing done around game time, we had planned to leave the bus around 2:00, hit the planned sights and still get home by...

Westbound Again

Jun 10, 2012 - Orange CA

We hopped onto the PCH and headed towards San Luis Obispo where, despite a GPS vs. road sign conflict, we finally got pointed in the right direction on Hwy. 101 for the trip to the LA area. The trip took us back on the same stretch of 101 as yesterday’s jaunt to Solvang, but beyond there it was all new territory. The weather was beautiful until we got about 25 miles from Santa Barbara where it started to get overcast, then by the time we headed back inland near Ventura it started to clear up again. We stopped for gas in Camarillo, then the...

Westbound Again

Apr 26, 2012 - Orange, CA

We spent our last evening in Chula Vista at a restaurant next to the marina. We watched two beautiful herons searching for their supper in the harbor while we enjoyed the mixed seafood grill. Later that evening, as we studied the campground directory, we saw that there was no feasible way to avoid the L.A. area, so we decided to just drive 100 miles north to Orange, which is about two miles from Disneyland. We aren’t going to visit the mouse, though (too expensive, and we don’t like rides), but this is one of the few towns in the region...

Jan 26, 2012 - January 2012

Well a whole month without an update.. Guess time does really fly here in La La land. The weather is amazing today in the 80's again really hard to take. So we decided to stay in this miserable (sic) climate until May. Ha.. We have been having a Great Time with Owen and Violet and wonder at the daily changes in growth and actions in both of them. Grammy and PaPa love being with the kids and spending time with Lauren and Keith. Took Owen to the Science Discovery Star Wars exhibit and he had as much fun as Matty did when we took him in...

Dec 29, 2011 - Southern California 2011

We arrived in Orange CA on the 15th and then it's been a blur of fun since then. Two trips to Legoland with the grandchildren one with Mattie and Meg, Violet, Owen and Keith and then again yesterday with Lo, Keith, Owen and Violet. We spent a day decorating the Farmer's Insurance Rose Parade Float at the Rose Palace in Pasadena, CA. Lots of tedious pasting and gluing. We can appreciate the amount of work that goes into the floats in the parade. We had a great time "Thanks" to Diane's longtime friend Maryjane Thompson for inviting us with...

Jun 30, 2011 - OC - Orangeland RV Park- Orange CA

Sorry for the Interim. We made it to The OC. Orange County, CA. Staying in the Orangeland RV Park in the town of Orange. We are close to Keith and Lo, right next to Disneyland. The neat part of out park is the oranges right outside our camper door. They also have lime trees, lemon, and grapefruit at different times of the year and you may pick them !! The first day here we had dinner with Keith, Lo, Owen and Violet at our favorite Mexican Restaurant La Rosa in Tustin. Last night the gang came to the campground for dinner. Chicken in beer...
