Sep 24, 2017 - CA-Carlsbad-Historical-LeoCarilloRanch

In the late 1800s and early 1900s the site currently known as Leo Carrillo Ranch was a working ranch owned by the Kelly family. In the 1930s, the ranch was bought by actor Leo Carrillo (best known for his role as Pancho on the Cisco Kid television series). Rancho de los Quiotes (Ranch of the Spanish Daggers) represented a man’s dream to connect with the proud memories of his past. Mr. Carrillo conceived the buildings’ designs by drawing them in the dirt. Carrillo built the structures you currently see at the ranch between 1937 to 1940. He...

Aug 31, 2017 - CA-Oceanside-PierSurfers

We walked the Oceanside pier, it had been many years since we had done so. along the pier are railings with peoples names etched in them. Reggi's parents contributed to the Oceanside Centennial Celebration (1988) and their names as well as all those who also contributed were etched in the railings as a thank you. We found their names as well as those of some of our friends. Paul & Margene Weber and their daughters, Victor & Barbara Villasenor and their sons and Pat & Ream Braegger (note we attend Pats marriage to Dave Randall on 8/19) Ream...

We went out to Davy Jones' ranch for pictures. Davy is Mike's classmate from high school. Davy and Mike were on the track team together. Davy has been involved in music since high school. His band was the open act for Barbara Mandrel and they played in Las Vegas. Mike reconnected with Davy during his 55th high school reunion in July. Davy and his siblings are getting what is left of the old homestead (Great Grandfather's) in the San Luis Rey valley. We got to go out and take pictures of what is left of the homestead. Lots of old weathered...

Aug 10, 2017 - CA - Del Mar - Going to the races.

Well, it has been 72 years 10 months 10 days since I (Mike) was at a racetrack, well OK, I have never been to a race track, so yesterday I was a horse racing virgin. ;-). We went to Del Mar for their Summer Racing season. We met Frank (Reggi's brother) and his wife Connie Mae for a day of fun, food, spirits and watching the horses run. AND yes we did bet some. We ended up BIG WINNERS. I have never won so much at one time. DRUM ROLL - we made a WHOPPING $3.75. Any time you can leave a gambling facility be it a casino or a race track and come...

Aug 9, 2017 - CA-Oceanside-OceansideBroiler-Harbor and Bill & Susan

We met Susan & Bill Becker at the Oceanside Broiler for Lunch. We have not seen them for 23 years. We were presenting couples with them while we lived in Northern Virginia. Bill retired from the Marines and is now a Captain for United Air Lines. It was a great time, it was like we hadn't seen them in a couple of days. We got caught up on all that has happened in the past 23 years. We are looking forward to seeing them more while we are here in Oceanside

Aug 5, 2017 - CA-Oceanside-ElksLodge-OurSite&Hummingbird

We have a very nice site here at Oceanside Elks Lodge #1561. While sitting outside a hummingbird came to our flowers and then fell to the ground, we watched it try to fly and get nectar and it was losing the battle. We gave it some nectar from our feeder; however, it was to late. What a sad thing to watch a beautiful hummingbird die.

Jul 1, 2017 - CA-Oceanside-4thJulyParade

When we are in the area for the 4th of July we attend the 4th of July parade in Oceanside. It goes along Coast Highway (old Hill Street) from Wisconsin through downtown Oceanside. Wisconsin is the intersection just south of where Reggi grew up (616 South Hill Street). The home was sold after Reggi's dad passed in 2005. It is now a Urgent Care / Family Clinic that is painted a gaudy yellow with red trim. Ugh. The parade was 2 hours long and have more than 200 units. it definitely has morphed into a bigger parade with lots of people in...

Oct 21, 2016 - Oceanside CA - Reggi’s parents grave

One thing that Reggi wants to do each time we are in Oceanside is to put flowers on and clean her parent’s grave. The cemetery removes all the flowers (real ones) every Thursday, so new flowers are put on the grave every Friday. We clean the grave just before we are to leave. We also fix and replace if necessary the wind chimes. This time we put up a new one and repaired one that has been hanging over the grave for the last 8 years. Reggi also put a flag which made a great reflection on the grave marker. We then sat in our chairs just...

Mickey is a dear friend of ours for the past 15 plus years. Mickey helped Reggi with some tax and financial issues associated with her Dad. Mickey’s husband was a Col in the Marines and she has traveled all over the world, her home is filled with memorabilia from all those years. One in particular that is amazing is a Japanese “Kimona” hanging on the wall.

Oct 18, 2016 - Los Angeles to Oceanside by Train

Well our trip experience back to Oceanside was a much different from our trip to LA. No Issues. The ride was very interesting in the sense we saw things that were unnerving - homeless living along the tracks, under bridges, and the trees along the trip. They are in very town. It was very sad to see. We also were blessed to see the beautiful Pacific coast line from San Clemente to Oceanside. While passing through Camp Pendleton we saw a helicopter lifting off with marines inside. It was good to be back home; however, we do miss being with...
