Feb 12, 2015 - 1350 LADERA CIRCLE in PALM SPRINGS

The address in todays journal entry is "The Robert Alexander Estate", a private residence that was rented for a year by Elvis Presley starting is Sept 1966. - Let's start with the owner, Robert Alexander, a early builder on over 2200 homes in Palm Springs from 1955 to 1965. With his building Palm Springs doubled in size. He built his home in the early 1960's and it was featured in Look Magazine in 1962. The Alexander's lived their lives to the fullest but unfortunately met their untimely end in a plane crash that was taking off from Palm...

Feb 9, 2015 - Life in the Coachella Valley

Yesterday Judy and I visited The Coachella Valley History and Cultural Museum which included an old Schoolhouse and the Date Palm Museum. The first weekend of the month is free admission which is why we picked yesterday. We were fortunate that a docent led tour had just begun right before we arrived so we jumped in on the tour. - It was interesting to hear about the early Native Americans and the early days of farming in the valley. What produce was planted, how it was irrigated and where the water came from. The docent led us throughout...

Jan 30, 2015 - 3 More Weeks

We have about 3 more weeks left here in sunny California and I will certainly miss the warm temps when we leave. - It will be interesting when we return to Oasis Palms next fall and see all the improvements the new owners are making. Some have already been done, like painting the inside of the Activity Room along with a new 65" TV and new leather furniture. They are also completing work on another building that was started years ago which is to be another shower and bathroom along with a laundry room. Bad part about this is that it's right...

Jan 14, 2015 - New Laptop and New Tires

Like the saying goes "I'm spending money like a drunk sailor"I mean no disrespect to our Navy service people). Oh well, it was my birthday and we had to get a new laptop and our tires also needed replaced. They could have lasted a while longer but we got over 45,000 miles out of them although they were 60,000 mile tires. With Judy driving the Jeep following me on our travels I wanted good "rubber to the road" for her. - We searched for hours at several places for the new laptop and purchased a widescreen Toshiba at Staples. This is the 3rd...

Dec 23, 2014 - Time for Rest and Relaxation

We finally arrived here at Oasis Palms RV Park and now it's time to relax and visit with friends both old and new. I believe the friendships grow while sitting around the bonfire each evening during happy hour, right around 4 PM. We were not suppose to arrive until DEC 21st but found out about the Potato Bake that was scheduled for DEC 20th so we moved our arrival date up a few days and arrived here on the 18th. - Relaxing is what we are doing and I've been in the hot tub 3 times so far and today I'm going swimming in the pool. I was...

Feb 18, 2014 - Under the Shade of the Trees

As I was having my coffee at our picnic table this morning my mind was racing in high gear like usual while I was enjoying the shade of the 3 Palm Trees surrounding our picnic table. - I kept thinking of all the places that we have been and enjoyed the shade of the trees. While sitting in our daughters driveway in Pennsylvania and under Live Oak trees in Florida, also under Palm Trees both in Florida and California, under Saguaro's in Arizona and most recently under the Lemon trees on the west side of the Salton Sea. - We have had...

Feb 17, 2014 - From One Extreme to Another

Today we left Oasis Palms for the Salton Sea State Pk. even though we had four days left at Oasis we will go back after our two weeks at Salton Sea. I think Bob and I wanted to experience this "salty place" while in Ca. Oasis is a lovely place with grassy areas and many citrus trees and we had our share of fresh orange juice, along with oranges and grapefruit. I also made two fresh lemon pies while there. We will return there for four more days after out Salton experience. Then on to Anza-Borrego State Park for three weeks before heading...

Feb 13, 2014 - We're Staying Another Month

Judy was out with the camera so the photos in todays entry can be attributed to her. I wish she would post more entries in the journal but she keeps busy cooking, washing dishes and clothes and just keeping an watchful eye on me. - We talked it over for several days and decided to stay here at Oasis Palms RV Park for another month. I know I told you in our Feb 7th entry that we were moving to the State Park on other side of the Salton Sea but we could not bring ourselves to leave here. - With the daytime temps 15 to 20 degrees above normal...

Feb 10, 2014 - From THIS to THIS

Judy worked hard today making one of her Lemon Pies from the lemons on the tree right next to our RV. They are far superior to the pies that are made from a pudding mix and check out that meringue. I had a piece this afternoon and it was mouth watering........Mmmm, good. - We took our two little Papillion's, Betty and Joey to the vet this morning for their shots and heartworm meds. We also made appointments to have their teeth cleaned next month. Now all I have to do is find some bank to rob to pay these vet bills. We have had all four of...

Feb 7, 2014 - We'll be There in a Week

Like I mentioned in yesterdays Journal entry we decided to keep our reservation at the Salton Sea State Park for a month starting next Friday. It's been a real pleasant stay here at the Oasis Palms RV Park but we're getting hitch itch real bad. We will definitely return next winter and I'm sure some of the same people will be here. Some have been returning for the past 12 or more years. - We plan on doing a lot of bird watching during our stay at the State Park. The shore is close enough that we can just carry our folding chairs there and...

Feb 6, 2014 - Beautiful Horses

We heard that there were some competition horses not too far from the RV Park so Judy and I took a ride and went looking for them. What we found was acres and acres of beautiful horses all looking their best and doing their best on the jumping course. We watched them practice and they all had their chance on the timed jumping. I only attached a few of the dozens of photos I took of "All the Pretty Horses". Besides Judy loving flowers I think the next thing would be horses. - We first rode through where their stables were located and some...

Feb 4, 2014 - Super Bowl Party, Campfires and Ukulele's

We had a great time at Sunday's Super Bowl Party here at the RV Park, The park supplied the hot dogs and chicken wings and everyone brought a side dish. Judy made macaroni salad and there were plenty of finger foods. I "donated" $4.00 on a football pool but as you can tell by the word donate I did not win. The same girl won the first 3 quarters with a payout of $150, not bad. - Every evening at 4:00 many of the guests here attend a big campfire up near the clubhouse and swimming pool. I mentioned in a previous post about the Baked Potato...
