Jul 7, 2013 - Sightseeing and dinner with David Alley

We spent our last day on the north side of LA driving around to places we had heard of all our lives. We bought a map that listed the addresses of stars in Beverly Hills and tried to coordinate what was shown on the map with what we were able to find. We really weren't as interested in spotting someone famous as looking for interesting landscaping. And it gave us something to do rather than sit in the trailer with no TV without walking our legs off again. We weren't very systematic in our search. We basically looked at where we were then...

Jul 6, 2013 - Universal Studios

For the last 3 weeks, we have debated whether to go to Universal Studios. Our issue was we have been to the one in Orlando so the concept is not new. With this being our last week-end in Northridge it became a now or never issue. With that in mind we are taking a YOLO attitude. (That's you only live once for those who don't work around young people and their acronyms.) We don't expect to be back to Southern California anytime in the near future. So... The website said they opened at 10 am. We wanted to get there a little later to give the...

Jul 4, 2013 - Declaration of Independence from the Heat

After a week of working around an LA heat wave, we finally have AC! I have to give my husband the credit here. If not for his persistence, we very likely would have had to go another week without it. I'll explain. By Monday night we were very frustrated that the AC company could not confirm when or if the new unit had been shipped. Our RV repair guy, Jerry, was getting the same run-around. Stan decided to call the shipping department Tuesday morning. The receptionist there explained that a storm Thursday night had ripped off the roof of the...

Jul 2, 2013 - President Ronald Reagan Library

We moved to Northridge, CA on Monday. We chose this area because it's closer to Burbank, Simi Valley, Pasadena, etc. The first thing we wanted to see was the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library so we drove to Simi Valley (about 30 minutes west) this morning. We expected an entertaining venture, but this really went way beyond our expectations. First of all the building sits on top of a hill and not only the building is beautiful, but the view is breathtaking. The entrance is a large open courtyard that looks like a California Hacienda. A...

May 2, 2011 - Moved On

After a long but enjoyable stay in Mesa, we left there Thursday, April 28, bound for California. We stopped overnight at the WalMart in Palm Desert, California, just off of Dinah Shore Blvd, and then arrived Friday at Walnut RV Park in Northridge, California, a suburb of Los Angeles, and amazingly coincidentally immediately next door to our son Kevin's new home location. In all of our previous visits to Kevin's neighborhood, we had never found this camgpround until we planned for this trip. He moved into his new home last weekend, so it...

We're Wingin' It

Oct 11, 2010 - Northridge, California

Sunday, October 10th - Kingman, Arizona Shortly after leaving our Wal-Mart this morning we took a 6 mi detour to see the Meteor Crater. It is a mile wide, 550 ft deep (was 700 ft deep at time of impact), deeper than a 60 story building, crater made by a meteor 50,000 yrs ago. Quite an interesting site & display. The terrain closely resembles the moon’s surface & was used as a training site for NASA Apollo astronauts. The crater has been a source of valuable information to scientists as an impact crater. Some others craters are volcanic....

Jul 2, 2010 - Northridge, CA

Friday 7/2/10 Northridge, CA It has been a very long & tiring week. We have accomplished what we came to do. Our dear Aunt Grace is at peace, the family shared this special time together & we are grateful we have each other. We must move on & continue on our journey. It was difficult saying goodbye to everyone again. Family members flew back to Berkeley, Sacramento, Vegas & one is off to Afghanistan as we head back to Cody, Wyoming in the morning. We pray for everyone’s safety & good health. Then there was hugging & kissing the sweet faces...

Jun 29, 2010 - Northridge, CA

Tues. June 29th: My last post was actually late Sunday night, June 27th. As many of you already know, we have had to make a temporary change in our itinerary. Monday morning, June 28th, we received a call that our beloved Aunt Grace Sager had passed away. This was unfortunately not unexpected. She has not been doing well for a number of months & we did expect this during our trip. We spent Monday morning making arrangements for Aunt Grace as well as for our emergency return home. The people in Cody, WY were wonderful in helping us out but...

Jun 6, 2010 - Pre Trip Jitters!

Hello famiy & friends.... we are indeed getting quite anxious as we deal with the last of the preparations. I feel like we are going to the moon. Certainly there will be no stores where we are going so I have to take all the important items with from home. The Dolphin is back from all repairs as of yesterday. We have signed up with a new tour company for the Maritime Provinces since our tour was cancelled recently due to lack of numbers. Our mail forwarding service is working great. It is the U.S. P.O. that screwed up & has been piling up...
