Mar 23, 2017 - Encore at FOY

Here we are back at FOY after a great 2 week race break. We made the decision not to return home via E Nevada after watching the weather forecasts. So then we decided since we had a bit of time left before our northward trek we would return to the Fountain for one last week of sun and pool time. Randi is even getting in one last therapy session before we go. Weather has broken a bit here with temps in mid 80s and nice and cool at nite under a blanket. Park is emptying out as snowbirds are heading for home. Makes the pools/tubs nice and...

Feb 27, 2017 - Where does the time go - only a couple weeks before we leave

The last time I did an update it was the end of January and we were going for Chinese food for a friends birthday. Well it turned out to be several birthdays and there was approximately 20 people. So for $20 Brian & I got 5 dishes of Chinese food enough for leftovers. We took a trip to San Diego with friends Dean & Cheryl, got hotel rooms for $65 a night. Good thing we did not go on the weekend the price of the same room for the weekend was $130 a night, I think because The Farmers Insurance golf tournament was being played at Tory Pines...

Feb 17, 2017 - Salvation Mountain

Friday 2/10 Well the package wasn’t supposed to get here until Saturday and the place we use for mail here in Quartzsite isn’t open on Saturday or Sunday. So, we won’t be leaving for Slab City until at least Monday. Monday 2/13 So, we went to check and they said the package wasn’t there yet. The stupid Post Office tracking shows it going to Phoenix, then to some town called Ajo, and then back to Phoenix again. This is also the last day of our week we paid for at the RV Park we’ve been at. We moved out to another area of the BLM that we...

Jan 30, 2017 - Fountain of Youth Spa RV Resort

And a most enjoyable week it was. We spent a beautiful7 days in the Palm Springs area. Weather reached the apex required for shorts, sandals and 2 trips a day to pool/hot tubs. We met with Gerry/Lyn a couple of times and then went into Palms Springs to eat at Billy Reed's, classic place, good food, great service best described as vintage desert dining. You could almost envision Hollywood rolling into this place. Thanks guys. Had a visit from other friends from Comox, they came down via Aurora airlines so had a work schedule to keep. We went...

Happy New Year 2017 to Everyone In case you haven't heard Southern California has been in a drought for the past 5 years. Well in one month they no long have a drought. We keep getting flood warnings. Although where we are parked it is above sea level the hwy to Indio has been closed several times due to flooding. There is just no where for the water to go. I know you all have been experiencing much cooler temperatures than we have here but this is suppose to be the desert where the sun shines day after day. We have been experiencing high...

Dec 26, 2016 - Christmas in the desert

We were planning a trip to Mexico (Los Algodones) but cancelled due to high winds. Winds were gusting up to 70km. We didn't get much sleep as the motorhome was rocking all night, even brought in the slides. We happen to have awning over the slides and when its winds they flap up & down making lots of noise. Although we didn't get much sleep we were uo early for the first pancake breakfast eggs, hashbrowns ham sausage coffee juice $5. Just can't beat the price. Later that evening we headed to The Living Dessert & Zoo which is over in Indian...

Nov 17, 2016 - The Slabs

I’ve traveled around the world five times. I’ve seen slums and ghettos on five continents. I’ve stayed in Bedouin villages in the desert in Africa and remote villages in Asia. But, I’ve never ever seen any place quite like “The Slabs”. During World War II, the Marine Corp had a training base deep in the desert in southern California. Years later, they dismantled the base. They took down the buildings but left the concrete slabs upon which the buildings had been constructed. Years went by with the area being totally abandoned. Then, some...

Nov 14, 2016 - I know you've been asking what have we been doing

One of my favourite this to do is sit outside with my morning coffee soaking up the rays. At 8am its only 25C a big change from the rain and the wind traveling here. The dog has to have her walk before breakfast so off we trundle pulling Maggie behind us. The season is early as there are lots of empty spaces. At noon we head to the pool to play water volleyball such fun with lots of laughs. Whoops forgot the sunscreen! We both have golfer's / farmer's tan so those other areas that get exposed when wearing a bathing suit got a little red....

I know this was a month ago but had to share 7 - 15 March Mexico here we come! As Brian broke his new glasses in half we headed to Los Algodones to get them repaired. It's only a 2 hour drive! What a wonderful surprise, Meyers Optical gave him new frames at no cost. They stated it would take about an hour so of course we were delighted to come back. We headed to the main square outdoor restaurant to have lunch. We ordered margaritas and food and sat back to enjoy the music and ambience of the place. When the food came we looked at each...
