Jun 8, 2015 - Nevada City

First settled in 1849, during the California Gold Rush, as Nevada (Spanish for "snow-covered", a reference to the snow-topped mountains in the area). The Gold Tunnel on the north side of Deer Creek was the city's first mine, being located in 1850. The first saw mill built in Nevada City was on Deer Creek, just above the town, in August, 1850, and was built by Lewis & Son, with a water wheel. In 1850-51, it was the most important mining town in the state, Nevada County being the leading gold-mining county in the state. In 1851, The Nevada...

2015 RV Adventure

Aug 5, 2013 - HOME

It was a long drive in the bare, boring high desert on US 95, but when Dad mentioned that we could get all the way home today instead of staying at the half-way mark if we were up for it, Mom and I said YES! So, we finished lunch and got back on the road. Time for a break as we cruised through Reno, so stopped in Boomtown for what turned out to be a fabulous prime rib dinner. Dad put one of the 6 gallon jugs of diesel into the truck so that we didn't have to stop at a station and we were off again. Less than two hours later, Dad, our very...

Jun 1, 2013 - Nevada City, California

Reggi caught something or ate something that did agree with her, she was bed ridden for two days. So after she got better, we toured with Jimmie and Jeanine as they showed us Nevada City and a California town that succeeded from the union (Rough and Ready). Before we left, there was an Antique Tractor Show going on at the Nevada County Fairgrounds. So really remarkably restored tractors. We drove to the Historic National Hotel - The National Hotel (also known as the National Exchange Hotel), listed on the National Register of Historic...

Jun 10, 2012 - Harmony Ridge RV Park

Today we drove to Nevada City, CA to stay at one of our membership resorts (R.O.D.). We followed Hwy 49 through the rest of Gold Country of the Sierra Nevada Mountain foothills through farms and ranches of cattle and vineyards and then through cities (new & old) and some forests. We passed through Auburn and noticed a mural of horses on the Auburn Elks Lodge building. We'll have to go visit that lodge later when we visit my cousin. After setting up and fixing lunch we walked the park. We met Dean & Connie from Lodi who also own an...

Oct 22, 2011 - Harmony Ridge RV Resort, Nevada City, California

We have been hanging out in the Nevada City area since Saturday at the Harmony Ridge RV Resort. We are absolutely enjoying the quietness and fall weather. Wifi is intermittent along with cell service, but the library will cover us for this week. The resort is down in a valley with ridges along both sides that block any cellular or other electronic signals and with heavy tree cover, there is no satellite reception. So we are really off the grid, but still enjoying the peace and quiet. There only 2 or 3 other RVs in this large resort which is...

Jul 3, 2010 - The last stretch home to Nevada City

Light breakfast for an early start, since we're stopping at the Nugget for breakfast on our way through Sparks. Once we finally found a parking place - the Nugget no longer makes it easy to park an RV or trailer - we did enjoy a good breakfast. Arrived at Mom and Dad's by mid-afternoon after a painful jaunt through road construction on hwy 80 between Reno and Truckee. Wow, a long trip....but it's over...already. :-(

After coffee with sisters, Linda and Patti, I packed up and left Los Gatos for Mom and Dad's in Nevada City. My youngest sister, Marlene, Jackie, Kylee and Griffen joined us for dinner and visiting in the evening. Those kids are SO cool! Photos here from a couple weeks ago. Off to bed early for a mid-morning start on our 2-and-a-half-to-3 month adventure!

Feb 24, 2008 - Nevada City, California

February 21-24, Nevada City, California. Nevada City and Grass valley are the center of the old gold rush country in California, a couple of drainages and 50 miles north of the first discovery of gold at Sutter’s Mill on American River near Coloma. These towns are on tributaries of the Yuba River which was placer mined and panned and there are some of the richest hard-rock gold mines in the whole country located around and under these small towns. There are numerous structures that date to the 1860s when the gold mining was in its peak and...

Aug 17, 2007 - Nevada City, CA

We headed out from Shasta City to Nevada City, well actually our RV park is in Chicago Park, CA. Never did find out the story behind naming of that town. We had a scenic drive with Gabriel riding shotgun and Meg leading the way in her car. Good thing too, we would have had a hard time finding the RV park due to the fact that our GPS in the RV was unable to give turn by turn directions. We got to the park where they asked us if we were a part of the "camping group", no we aren't. Figured it was a church group or something, but no, it ended...
