Oct 26, 2017 - From 27 degrees to 90 degrees in one day!

We got up at the usual 0630 and got underway at 0830, as today was going to be a long day of travel. Miss Zoey was full of the dickens this morning, she got in the shower after I was done and chased the drips of water, that always makes me laugh! Then we played numerous games of ball, very carefully, as yesterday afternoon she dropped her ball over the side of the bed, when the slide was closed. It is always my fear that one of her toys will get caught under the slide out mechanism. It fell in this void area so I had to just about stand on...

Nov 30, 2016 - Over the mountains we go

We woke up to cold temperatures this morning. Both heat pumps were running as it was 35 degrees. When I took Miss Zoey for a walk it felt kinda refreshing to me. And I heard a sound I had not heard for awhile; at 5 minutes to 0800 there was the "first call to colors"! And It is nice to be on a Navy base where they greet you by name and rate,it feels a bit like home. As we were leaving the base we noticed everyone had hats, gloves, and scarfs on, I guess this is still California. This is a nice little RV park if you are coming this way. It...

Oct 25, 2016 - Day 39, Wednesday October 12

We spent the first part of our day visiting the Grand Canyon Caverns, one of the few 'dry' caverns in the world, which means it has stopped growing. Any stalagmites or stalactites stopped grow many hundreds of years ago. During the 1960's the cavern was declared a bomb shelter. It was equipped with water, hard candy, crackers, medical supplies and toilet buckets (but no flashlights, candles or matches). I don't think I'd want be be down there when the lights went out. The cavern is so dry that three days without water, a person would...

Apr 19, 2016 - Greetings from Needles, Ca

Our first stop was at Northshore Resort in Needles, California, a lovely spot on the Colorado River. At this time of year our shady spot is very welcome - today's temperature is 93 degrees. Monday the 18th, we decided to explore the area, so we started at Topock and drove north on Historical Route 66 to the town of Oatman, an historical "touristy" town originally formed due to a local gold strike. Burros walk the streets eating anything the tourists will feed them! Many unusual shops and an old hotel dating back to 1902. We found the whole...

Apr 7, 2016 - Needles KOA in Needles, California

Freightliner finished the work on our motorhome at 10:30 this morning. We got everything stowed away and the car hooked up and hit the road around 11. After our semiannual trip back to New England for doctor and dentist appointments, we are back in explorer mode. First, we are heading to Zion National Park in Utah. The most direct route is north through Arizona to Utah. I decided to take a slightly longer route to avoid some steep grades. We took I-10 and I-17 west through Phoenix. Traffic was heavy in the metropolitan area but was light...

Our 2016 Travels

Jan 11, 2016 - A foggy start

This morning we had a foggy start to our day. It was hard to see the on ramp to 99 South. And what's up with not using your headlights when its foggy? No wonder they have 10 car pile ups in the fog. It is warmer today, so I can finally put away my wool socks, gloves, and dorky hat. I stepped in some really icky mud here while walking Zoey. I took her into a grassy area so she could run off the leash but it was muddy path getting there. And my tennis shoes were stuffed with mud that didn't want to come out. Spike ended up washing them off...

Nov 21, 2015 - Needles, CA

Arrived at the Elks Lodge here mid afternoon. Not much to do in Needles but the Lodge was nice and we had full hook-ups for the rig. Jeff the bartender at the Lodge recommended a Mexican restaurant which was very good. Was going to be another overnight but decided to stay until Monday to watch the football games on Sunday. Well worth it as we got to see the Packers beat up on the Vikings.

Oct 1, 2015 - And away we go

After breakfast we started to pack everything up to check out. I was not expecting for Cummins to be done today, but we had to be ready. At about 1pm I got a call that the motorhome was complete and ready to go, so we packed up the car and drove over. Sure enough it was parked out in front ready to go, so we threw all of our stuff into the RV and hooked up the car. I am still nervous about having problems, but right out of Bakersfield is a big hill up to Tehachapi and she just purred up the hill, running like a champ. We stopped at Barstow...

Aug 12, 2015 - Needles, Ca

This entry is a few days late as I am having issues with the IPad and the laptop. As I tried to attach a picture of the Colorado River I got a message that there was a bug in the most recent Apple update. After trying their suggested solutions that failed I decided to try again later. We had a great waterfront site facing the river. North Shore RV Park is part of our Ghost Mountain (Colorado River Adventure) membership. Our space was free and the Ables had to pay $10. Quite a bargain. The temperature was 108 upon arrival but cooled to about...

From Mojave to Needles, the temperature was in excess of 100 degrees with a cross wind. From Barstow to South pass ( just west of Needles) is a...

Apr 20, 2015 - Time to leave Brenda

We departed Brenda at 3:30 p.m. (just couldn't wait for morning) after prepping the home to last the summer without our being there. That included placing several buckets of water on the floor throughout the house to keep some moisture in the air. Other things done included covering the windows with reflective insulation, disconnecting the water and electricity, stacking the patio furniture in the shed, covering the furniture, disconnecting all the equipment, TV, radios, clocks, refridge. We only drove 120 miles to Needles, CA to stay the...
