Apr 10, 2021 - Over the River and Through the Desert
We finally left North Ranch today, but not without drama. As I reported yesterday, we stayed an extra day for an AC part to be delivered from Amazon and FedEx. It did not arrive by the time we hit the road this morning at 1030. Later in the day I got an email from Amazon saying that FedEx could not deliver my package at 0940. I'm not sure what happened because FedEx never tried to deliver the package. This was the second delivery screw up this week. I'm going to have to make arrangements for deliveries later in the trip. Our route today was...Jump to full entry
Nov 1, 2020 - From 22 degrees to 90 degrees in one day!
We were up early. The switch back to standard time had us awake, so we got up and got underway a bit after 0700. It will be a long day on the road anyway, so the earlier we start, the earlier we can park for the day. Spike said we could make it all the way into Yuma but we would roll in after dark which is not ideal for parking and getting set up. It was 22 degrees when we got up this morning. Good thing Spike took the water hose in last night. But it is always cold in Ely. They are at 7300 feet! So we dressed warm this morning and laid...Jump to full entry
Apr 20, 2020 - Underway for Washington!
We had a short travel day today, and lots to do before leaving our lot in Yuma this morning. We needed to button up the casita and prep it for a hot summer. We turned off the gas but left the power on to run the watering system. (We are looking forward to more Tangelos and pink grapefruit next year but that takes lots of deep watering.) And we needed to lock up the casita and the gates, of course. So we got up at 0630, and got going. It is going to be warm today and the wind will pick up this afternoon. So I made myself a list of things...Jump to full entry
Jan 20, 2020 - Needles, CA
We stayed at this RV park last year for the first time and came back again this year. Nice park and ran into a couple from East Wenatchee, WA. Route 66 runs right through Needles and right now they are repairing a large section of it making it rough to take an RV over, but will be nice when completed. We traveled to Bullhead City for fuel as California prices are extremely high especially in Needles.Jump to full entry
Jan 24, 2019 - Needles, CA KOA
After a wonderful 3 night stay in Bakersfield, we headed over the Tehachapi Pass to the KOA in Needles, CA for two nights. We had never been to Laughlin NV or Bullhead City, AZ so we took a day and visited both places and came away with a little money besides. More water in the Colorado River this year which was encouraging. Needles, CA received its name from the Needles, pointed mountain peaks at the south end of the valley with wind-blown holes in them, visible only by boat from the Colorado River. This city was founded with the arrival...Jump to full entry
Jan 13, 2019 - Calzona RV Park (1/11 - 1/13/19)
This is our second time in Needles. This park is outside of town and we are in the overflow area, but it works. We are in site #75. These sites are very close with not enough room to open our awning. There is also a bright light just outside the bedroom, but we made it work. We found a geocache in the park. The next day we drove down to Lake Havasu. When we were here before, Tim and Joanne visited Lake Havasu, but I wasn't feeling well. The day was cloudy and a bit cool, but a nice day for a drive. We walked over the London Bridge and all...Jump to full entry
Jan 1, 2019 - Desert View RV Resort (12/28 - 12/30/18)
This was our first time staying in Needles. This is a very nice RV park. Each of the sites is separated by large oleander bushes. That gives you a feeling of privacy. We were in site #37 at the end of a row. It was quite windy so the shrubs helped out a lot. From the back of the RV we could look out across the desert. We had an early dinner at a great little place, The River Front Cafe. That night we drove into Laughlin, NV to the Riverside Casino. Tim and Joanne got into a poker tournament, but had no luck. I didn't do very well with the...Jump to full entry
Nov 1, 2018 - From 28 degrees to 78 degrees
Well it was pretty chilly last night at 28 degrees. The sky in Ely, this morning looked ominous. Kind of like snow. But we are moving on toward warmer weather. It is supposed to be 78 degrees in Vegas, so we are dressing warm this morning and have laid out shorts and t-shirts for later. Underway at 0830 for a 6.5 hour day of traveling. No one sent me any guesses for what kinda of weird things we packed this year. Well I guess I better tell you...We packed an oriental rug that used to be in our dining room at home. Spike said if it didn't...Jump to full entry
May 16, 2018 - Santa Nella to Needles CA
We left Santa Nella about 6 am and headed to Needles Ca. It was a 9 hour truck, the dog were in the cab the whole time so we did not have to worry about the tempature. Once we got to needles the GPS took me someplace that was not the correct direction, but Donna got me on track. After having he AC on to cool down in the trailer we walked to the river just a stone throw away. Donna was impressed how clean the river is. We have. Some friendly neighbors here at the RV park. It is good to meet some other on the an adventure. Tomorrow we work...Jump to full entry
Mar 20, 2018 - WiFi Woes
We have been fighting an unsuccessful battle trying to get Internet connections while traveling, but I think we learned something today. It seems that our phones are capable of acting like WiFi connectors for our computers. The only trouble is that we don’t have a good enough connection with the phones because the parks are so remote they don’t have cell phone towers. The upshot is that, if we can get the phones working, we should have connections whenever we have good cell phone connections. And we can still use the Verizon WiFi when we...Jump to full entry
Mar 18, 2018 - Snow!
This morning we found at least 1-1/2 inches of very fine snow on the ground and more coming down. We decided discretion was the better part and had breakfast in a hurry and got on the road. Highway 64 is mostly two-lane and has LOTS of impatient drivers zooming around slower cars. One nearly caused a head-on collision right in front of us while passing a string of cars, but the oncoming car pulled off the road to let the idiot by. We were apparently successful in getting ahead of most of the traffic and, in spite of the snow-covered roads,...Jump to full entry
Jan 23, 2018 - Winslow to California and NO SUB-FREEZING!
I have never been so happy to see the Welcome to California sign as I was yesterday. Certainly not because I could join in California causes and support such inane and absurd things as automatic voting registration when an illegal obtains his driver's license. No, no, I'm not excited about my pals on the other side of our borders who may identify me as one of the crazies. And I can't help the fact that I was born in Berkeley. But yesterday, I was thrilled to arrive because at this particular time in my life, I am finally going to have days...Jump to full entry
