Oct 12, 2016 - Back to the natural – Death Valley

I’m so happy again. Back to the open roads and natural wonders. No crowds. No noise. No neons. Bliss. It was another long driving day, this time through Death Valley. Stunning. The highlight was pulling over to let some cars pass (our poor little Nissan was struggling up the mountain road) and having a coyote come around to the side of the car and just sit happily posing for us. Just wonderful!

May 11, 2016 - Sierra Trails RV Park, Mojave, California

This was another travel day – just 238 miles today. We headed southwest on I-15 into California. There are a couple long downgrades, Mountain Pass and Halloran Pass. Neither is steep for very long. I didn’t have to use the exhaust brake. Shifting down one or two gears was enough to keep the speed down. In Barstow, we got on Hwy 58 and headed northwest. Hwy 58 cuts across from Barstow to Bakersfield. It keeps us out of the Los Angeles metro area. There were some strong wind gusts today. They come down the canyons. We are spending the night...

Aug 3, 2014 - Rain in Mojave !

Don't get your hopes up for some nifty photos. First, it was a gloomy day...so gloomy raindrops fell intermittently throughout the day. I doubt the total was measureable, but still it rained and this desert town only gets about 5" a year. Dark menacing skies. I got an emergency warning siren and scroll on the TV for flash floods further south. Second, it's Mojave, and unfortunately it's not what I would consider a pretty town or countryside. But still, I enjoyed my mini explorations and Boots was watching out his window when I got...

Jun 18, 2014 - OTRA - CA - Mojave

We DID it! We finally left Las Vegas. But we do so like it here because our campground is so convenient to everything. I think, though, I’m a little weary of the jets flying over from the base. They ARE loud and now, with the stuff going on in Iraq, they’re moving a lot of big tankers and cargo planes in and out. Those guys are pretty neat and they’re not as loud as the jets. There was one HUGE something that took off (they take off right over the campground) and as it passed over the campground, it was still so low and so very rumbly, it...

Nov 25, 2013 - Mojave, CA

11/25 We're headed home. We wake up in Kingsburg CA. I take a quick trip down down to Hanford to the AAA. The last time I went to AAA we were in Idaho. I am out of the maps I got and we are ready to head back east. I got a bunch still not sure what route we are taking, watching the weather. Before we left the RV park at Kingsburg we take a quick run over to the SunMaid Rasin World Headquarters visitors center and gift shop. Can't make this stuff up. I bet I will have the only SunMaid Rasins ball cap in Berwick. We got a few edible things as...

May 27, 2013 - On to Mojave

We got up a little later than the day before, got everything put in its place and headed out around 10:00. Our destination is Mojave, Calif., about a 4 hour drive. Beautiful drive through the California desert. We love the sights of the Joshua trees and the rolling mountains. Since it was Memorial Day we were not alone. Lots of traffic, fer sure. We were passed by many a truck towing a boat or jet skis. We were close to Lake Havasu so I am pretty sure that was where they were coming from. We did pass a car that was on fire and felt...

Nov 1, 2012 - Mojave, Ca

Final Thoughts - Mojave – Thursday 11/01 We arrived in Mojave for an overnight stay and then home tomorrow. We will truly miss the landscapes of the wilderness tundra, the polar bears, all the arctic animals, and all the landscapes and tapestries along the way that are embedded in our hearts and minds. We traveled over 6900 miles throughout some of the most beautiful landscape that God created. The Lord has truly blessed us with the opportunity to enjoy his many creations and we look forward to our next journey to the Canadian Maritimes...

7/16/12 On the road by 10:00 a.m. (at least we haven’t forgotten how to do that!) and had an easy drive down I-15 into California then onto CA-58 to Mojave where we will be staying at the Spaceport RV Park for 2 days or so. Along the way, we stopped at a Pilot Truck Center to weigh the truck and trailer and get gas. We found we’re about 500 to 1000 lbs overweight, depending on which Dodge tow chart you use. Went out this evening, back to the Edwards AFB area, to drop off a travel bug at the cache near there. That’s the main reason we...

Palm Creek is a beautiful resort, would love to spend some time here, but it is pricey. We got the Rally rate, only $45 per day. But they have plenty to do, pool, golf, weight room, library, all kinds of activities and games. Grounds are beautiful. we did not get into the Tiffin Rally but stayed for two nights, just in case we heard anything about RG. Nothing. Headed towards home now.

Mar 7, 2012 - Indio, CA

We left Mojave about 10 am. The previous night was interesting as the winds was really hitting the trailer and rocking about 10 pm it seemed to be quiet. But VERY cold about 38! We took another route as planned going down CA 14 connecting to to Hwy138 to 215 then I10 we did good with the time took about 3 1/2 hrs. On I10 interesting how much it has developed. Came across some interesting sandstone formations along the road. Had problems getting to our RV park, took the wrong way per our GPS! Had to call to find out where we were! Nice park...

Schrams on the road

Mar 6, 2012 - Mojave, CA

We arrived in Mojave about 4:00. We left Novato about 8:30 with a little worry about the high winds advistory! But had no problems and winds seemed to be behind us. There was dust storms but not to bad as we got closer to Bakerfield. Tumbleweeds blowing across the hwy. As we got to hwy 58 we could feel the winds on our side. We had a coyote cross in front us at one point. Pretty neat to see it! Wasn't Wiley tho! We had to stop in Tehachapi for fuel. What a nice place seems to be a good place visit. Downtown seems to upgraded and very clean....

Schrams on the road

Jul 2, 2010 - Mojave, CA

Well this is called catching up as we sit in the Mojave Desert at Edwards Air Force Base. On Wed. Jun 30, we left Travis Air Force Base (Suisun, CA) and headed south and cought Hwy 99. We drove 230 miles to Visalia, CA where we spent the night at a KOA. We drove took us through golden brown foothills of the coastal range and through the vast green San Joaquin Valley. The change in color was really something. The valley contains over a million acres of irrigated farms. There were many vineyards and orchards. Thur., July 1, we got up early...
