May 4, 2015 - California's "Salton Sea"

Now we are visiting the shores of the Salton Sea in California. We have read a lot about this location but this is our first visit. I know you thought the shore areas of California were on the Pacific Coast. Well, do not worry you are correct. However, the Pacific Ocean is not the only place you can fish, boat, or wade in salt water when visiting the beautiful state of California. As a matter of fact the Salton Sea is five times saltier than the Pacific Ocean. It is actualy the largest lake in California. Water flows into the lake but there...

Jan 22, 2012 - Imperial Sand Dunes and Salton Sea in CA

Thur 1/12/12 Salton Sea and Imperial Sand Dunes On Thursday morning we left the Park with Tom and Nancy in their Ford F350 SUPER DUTY Powerstroke and headed west to California. We drove west on I-8, then north through the Sonora Desert on Route S34 and west on Route 78 to the Imperial Sand Dunes. This place is very unique – nothing but shifting dunes of sand. The Dunes are all about recreation. People flock here from many miles away to ride the dunes with ATVs, dune buggies, motorcycles and custom vehicles. We watched several dune buggies...

We walked on a wonderful trail that took us to the oasis and then right through the middle of it and then out again. We were all by ourselves out in the middle of nowhere, it seemed. The walk was well marked and I was grateful for the...

Feb 7, 2009 - Salton Sea, California

So we, along with Rich & Julie, headed west again. Our destination was Joshua Tree National Park in California. Just inside the California border we hit the Imperial Sand Dunes Rec. Area. They are huge, huge sand dunes and boy were there dune buggies and 4 wheelers running around. Quite a sight. As we headed west and then north we knew we were going by the Salton Sea and had decided to swing in and look over the campgrounds as we passed. To the south of the Salton Sea is the Imperial Valley where lots and lots of your veggies come from. It...
