Apr 9, 2019 - 2nd day in Los Angeles Lylte Creek

Went on a bus tour of the big city and learn what movie star had lived where or currently live there, where they eat at, in some cases what building was used in the movie they made. The tour guide talked so fast and drove so fast that it was almost impossible to get a picture of one thing before he started on another. I do remember the fancy house of to of this mountain that was used in iron man as the house he lived in the movie.

Apr 7, 2019 - Leaving Joshua Tree National Park to go to Los Angeles, Bonita Ranch RV Park in Lytle Creek, CA

Relocating to a new RV park near Los Angeles. Nothing outstanding happened on this section of the trip. Some interesting information regarding the Joshua Tree. http://www.wisegeek.com/what-is-a-joshua-tree.htm The name Joshua tree was given by a group of Mormon settlers who crossed the Mojave Desert in the mid-19th century. The tree's unique shape reminded them of a Biblical story in which Joshua reaches his hands up to the sky in prayer." That's the version of the Joshua tree's naming origin story that shows up on Wikipedia, as succinct a...

Feb 26, 2012 - Lytle Creek, California

The little town of Lytle Creek sits, surprisingly enough, along Lytle Creek in the San Bernardino National Forest below Cajon Pass off Interstate 15 just before it drops into Rancho Cucamonga in the LA Basin. (Inhale now.) The area was first inhabited by the Serrano Indians. Mexican ranchers as well as hunters and trappers then moved in. The Mormons were the first to show any interest in actually settling in Lytle Creek. In 1851, Brigham Young sent three companies to help in the war with Mexico. By the time they got there, the war was...

Apr 5, 2010 - Lytle Creek, CA - Mountain Lakes Campground

We are just outside of Los Angles, CA for a few nights. We had to wind our way up a mountain to get here. We had a great visit with Mark Anderson and his girlfriend. Mark is a friend of Dan's for many years. They shared an apartment in NJ after they both were transferred there by AT&T. We had the pleasure of experiencing a big earthquake while we were here. We were relaxing in the coach when it starting rocking. Dan said "is the wind blowing that hard". The amazing thing was it kept on rocking. Other earthquakes I had been in were over...

Mar 15, 2010 - From the desert to the mountains

We were now DETERMINED to find a nice place to spend a couple of days, so headed up to an area near where we used to live in California just before Buzz retired. We were greatly rewarded for surviving the last 2 places with a small campground in a canyon area, beautiful weather, and even a grassy area right outside for Suzie. She was getting a little tired of putting up with either asphalt or gravel. We checked in and got settled, then left. We were meeting a group of friends from our longest tenure in California for dinner in an area...

Our next stop before heading north and west was at Mountain Lakes RV Resort up in the San Gabriel Mountains on the way up the Cajon Canyon. It was crowded since it was California schools Spring Vacation week. Most of the campsites were full until our last full day. Of course there are many people camping there since it is so close the Ontario/Rancho Cucamonga/Fontana/San...

Feb 23, 2009 - Getting Back in the Groove

Monday, February 23, 2009. Mountain Lakes RV Resort Getting Back in the Groove Tom dialed into work this morning at 5:00 AM. Jonathan and Deb started moving around 7:45 or so. We were all still tired from the rally so our day was kind of low key. Jonathan and Deb went for a walk after breakfast to check out the campground and try to get back into the exercise routine a bit. They found the playground and a few of the other important buildings like the video arcade, the restaurant and the clubhouse. They had a nice talk about some of...

Feb 22, 2009 - Newport Beach to Lytle Creek

Sunday, February 22, 2009. Mountain Lakes RV Resort Newport Beach to Lytle Creek We got up and started packing the rig this morning to be ready to pull out by noon. Jonathan wanted to play with his friends as much as he could before we left so we sent him out the door as soon as we could. There were several people to touch base with and good-byes to say before we pulled out so we did that. Some people left their cards with all their information on them by the door or were passing them out. Something I've always meant to do but just never...

Apr 28, 2007 - Lytle Creek Wedding

After leaving Benson, Az we traveled back to So. Cal to attend a wedding in Lytle Creek, and to visit family. The wedding was for Cheryl's best high school friend Mary, who was finally seeing the day her son would wed. It was in a nice venue in a very unlikely place, Lytle Creek. The grounds were pretty with the ceremony on the grass surrounded by the tall mountains. The reception was on a covered patio and was lovely. The bride & groom have a sense of humor as you will see by their wedding cake topper.
