May 11, 2015 - Another Great TT

I got here last Wednesday but have been busy every since. Friday I went about 50 miles to Penn Valley, CA to see my Aunt Doris and her daughter Connie. I had not seen Doris for about 12 years not Connie for about 40 years. Had a real good visit with them. It was fun reminiscing about old times and current times. We drove around and was able to see many of the sights around there. Connie even bought our lunch at a very unique restaurant. I had a prime rib French dip that was very good. Next Saturday I am going back and will be able to see...

Jan 22, 2013 - Down time at Lotus

Day 9 (am temp 21.4) Down time at Lotus After learning this morning that my mail had not yet arrived, I decided to stay put another day and use the time to do a little catch up, in hopes the mail will be here tomorrow. As a result, there weren’t many photo ops today. So, the website is nearly caught up – just a couple pix to add that I haven’t downloaded to the computer yet. But there was still time for a walk down to the river and a nice county park, where a couple people were actually panning or “sluicing” for gold. One guy had a very...

Jan 17, 2013 - Lotus area

(photo captions pending) Day 4 In and around Lotus, CA The day broke sunny and clear, at a balmy 19.6 degrees! Quite a change from the high 50’s when pulling in last night. At least there will be sunshine and warmer temps during today’s explorations (got up to 63). For the most part, the pictures will do the talking for today, as I made a quick trip into Placerville to get gas and check messages, update the website, etc. Briefly, Placerville is what I would describe as an overgrown Toledo, OR, Mill Valley, CA or any other town built on a...

Nov 8, 2010 - Ponderosa

We left Soledad Canyon for the Ponderosa Preserve near Lotus California. The park is less than a mile from where Gold was discovered ay Sutter's Mill. Our site was a literal stone's throw from the American River. Kayakers paddle by, and hang gliders (parasails) float off of the hill acroos the river to land nearby. The road was curvey getting to the park, but it was well worth it. While here, we got to see Britt amd Beth Bolerjack in Auburn, and Chris and Deb Saill in Folsom. The visits were not long enough, but we do not want to impose on...

Aug 29, 2009 - Ponderosa TT

Our first Thousand Trails park. Since Nancy gave us this membership we haven't had time to use it, with Wayne's new job and all, and we've been paying dues so we thought we should. We were originally going to Yosemite Lakes this weekend but there is a fire in Yosemite so the road was closed now we're on the south fork of the American River instead. Looks like a nice place. Courtney and I came up here by ourselves yesterday to get a spot because they're all first come first served. There were no spaces with full hookups, they only have a...

Jun 12, 2008 - Testing Judys Sanity

Today we arrived at a Naco Park called Ponderosa Resort in Lotus, Ca. We only had to drive about 98 miles. I really wished we could of stayed longer at the Delta Shores as there was a crabfest there over the weekend and due to it being a holiday there and belonging to ROD most places in that system black out days for members even though its not a National Holiday. So no problems arriving at Ponderosa even though it was a 10% hill coming down and of course you guessed it we shall be climbing it on the way out. We found a GREAT site right on...

ON THE ROAD AGAIN

May 2, 2008 - Lotus, CA - Visit with the Maxwell's

Well, we left Turtle Beach and went to a KOA near Placerville so that we could visit with Matt and Jennifer Maxwell. I used to work with Jennifer and her, Jeff Shoaf and myself used to go to coffee everyday. We went to dinner with them and then had a short visit at their new house. We met Jennifer's kids, and her daughter, Miranda was thrilled to meet us. Her son is Eric. From the KOA we drove an entire 10 miles to Pioneer Resort in Lotus, CA. If we had known about it being so close we would have skipped the KOA which was $42 a night versus...

Mar 24, 2008 - March 24-25, Ponderosa TTN, Lotus, Ca.

Finally, we have a wifi signal for a day- no phone though. By way of catching up, today we crossed into the Yukon and joined the Alaska Highway and will spend a night or two here in Watson Lake (where the Sign Forest is). Oh, the beauty we have seen, and the snow and the adventures, but that is for future episodes. Back to catching up... Ponderosa is a Thousand Trails Preserve on the South Fork of the American River, in the heart of California Gold Country. We were able to back our RVs right on the river. The temperatures were comfortably...
