Return to the Mainland Friday, September 16th: Fremont Campground, Los Padres National Forest Weather: mid-60s and sunny until we drove over the historic San Marcos Pass through the Santa Ynez Mountains into the Santa Ynez Valley, where the temperatures were significantly higher (mid-80s) Route: Island Packers Ferry to Ventura Harbour with a stop at Surfer's Knoll for a refreshing cold outdoor beach shower --> US-101 with a stop in Carpinteria to buy food and do two loads of laundry--> CA-154 through Santa Barbara at rush hour --> Paradise...Jump to full entry

July 22 - 24. One of the things we talked about for this trip was to find secluded swimming holes with waterfalls where we could strip off and relax in cool clear water. We found a couple of these during a weekend camping with HAI folk inland from the Big Sur coastline in the Los Padres National Forest. It's a bit out of the way and well worth the drive. We had 3 days here mixing with new friends and soaking in the cool water.
