Aug 29, 2015 - Leaving Home

After an expensive week of RV repairs, we are finally on the road. We left this morning around 7:30 a.m. to start our journey of the Grand Circle Western National Parks. The Grand Circle encompasses some of the earth's most extraordinary geological and archeological wonders. Within it's radius, man has lived for more than 2,000 years in the company of canyons, rivers, mesas, cliffs, buttes and spires, all of such grand scale as to defy imagination. This landscape was born eons ago, shaped by the relentless push of molten rock that, through...

Jan 23, 2013 - The Rain

I left Redding around noon today, by the time I got organized and found my way to the I-5. I stopped at a Les Schwab Tire store for directions and while there asked about tire pressure in the trailer tires and the guy insisted that I pull up to the air pump and he would check and fill them! I thought he'd then try to sell me more tires but nary a sales word was spoken. Talk about customer service! (And, of course, I'm not even a customer.) Anyway, whomever sang the "It Never Rains In Southern California" song, was definitely not talking...

Sep 25, 2012 - Santa Nella

Back on the road we continued on to Sacramento, and then turned south on I-5 and headed down the central valley toward Los Angeles. We drove for a couple of hours and found a nice RV campground in the little community of Santa Nella near the town of Los Banos. Our next door neighbor had a U.S. Marine Corps emblem on his RV and we struck up a lively conversation. It turned out he spent most of his career on the east coast, and was a drill instructor at Parris Island. He enlisted in 1954, three years before I did, and at one time he was an...

Oct 12, 2011 - Home Again - But Not For Long

Well we made it home again after traveling 10,438 miles. We had a great time and had no trouble at all. We will be leaving soon for our training with Fantasy RV Tours in Pahrump, Nevada. After our training we will be going to our winter park assignment. So much for relaxing. Next years traveling plans include Georgia in March/April for a reunion rally and Churchill, Manitoba in October to see the polar bears. We will probably be in Vermont for the summer again. That's all for now. Hope you enjoyed our journal.

Jun 13, 2011 - Finally, It's Time To Go!

This past week has been a roller-coaster of emotions; some happy, some proud, some sad and bittersweet. It started with the farewell party for our wonderful Pastor, Glen Raley, who was assigned a new church. The next day, we had a family gathering to celebrate our granddaughter Cleo's 1st birthday and for the family to say good-bye to us. The following Saturday, our daughter Angela had her college graduation and Sunday, we picked up our oldest grandson Konner at the airport and got to spend the day with him. And now it's finally here; the...

Feb 21, 2011 - Den K holsteins Los Banos

May 8, 2010 - Can You Spell "Trip Delay?"

Yes, our trip is being delayed by two days so far. We now plan to leave Friday or Saturday. When we replaced the four back tires of the motor home, we discovered they were cupped. This means we needed new shocks. Not four shocks like most vehicles, but eight shocks. I convinced Bill to purchase the higher-end shocks as they were rated highest in motor home magazine consumer guide for the smoothest ride. This is our second home after all(even if it is on wheels)and we decided on nothing but the best. They were sent UPS overnight. Upon...

ALASKA BOUND - 2010

Sep 13, 2009 - Home Again

Los Banos, California –September 13, 2009 Temperature – mid 90’s – Sunny We traveled south about one hundred one miles today to our home. It has been a tremendous trip. We traveled 10,500 miles; some good, some not so good. Overall the roads were pretty good in Canada and Alaska. I think some of the California roads are worse. The beauty of this earth we live on is amazing. We couldn’t get enough of the scenery. Our favorite places were the Canadian Rockies in British Columbia near Lake Louise and Valdez, Alaska with the mountains...

Aug 7, 2008 - We Made It Home

Los Banos, California - August 7 We made it home. We had an incredible journey traveling over 12,485 miles in four months. We visited 32 states and created memories that will last a lifetime. Looking back, we were going to go for two months and several friends told us we should go for three. Three wasn’t long enough so we went four and we probably could spend another two or three months easily. Oh well, guess we’ll just have to go again.

Jun 7, 2007 - Getting Organized

Tonight will be the last of our 14-day trial run at Coyote Valley RV Resort in Morgan Hill, CA. We have spent most days just figuring out the basics ... what does this button do? or how do we turn that thing on? or where should we store our this/that? We have had the Acura with us, so we haven't moved the motorhome or unhooked/hooked-up since we arrived here two weeks ago. We have worked in a bit of fun along with the chores of getting ourselves organized for long-term living in the motorhome. We have golfed with the Pitzlins at the...
