Oct 6, 2004 - L.A.
Greetings! Last week we left off in Grand Haven, Michigan, during our lovely weekend getaway. Afterward, in the early afternoon, we drove back to Chicago. Our host (my cousin Sasha) talked us into eating lunch on the way home, rather than around the corner from her house. (That's not a good sign. Hmmm -- maybe she wanted to make sure we split town?) Sasha and her husband Mike raved about a restaurant called Redamak's. They said their burgers are worth the few extra miles (and the wait). So we put our hunger on the back burner for 90 minutes...Jump to full entry
Oct 5, 2004 - La -again Edited By Emma (if Read Before 7/10/04)
"L.A ,L.A, L.A, we're going to L.A" that robbie williams track has been going round in my head ever since we got here. bet it took him ages to come up with the lyrics, NOT! speaking of sarcasm thats another anglocism that hasnt reached these shores yet, they just dont get it! When we were in Vegas, as we were coming out of the show there was a lady stood there saying 'photos on your right, on your right photos, looking for your photos? over on your right, on your right ladies and gentlemen please look at your photos, ooooooon the right -...Jump to full entry
Sep 24, 2004 - L A paa godt og vondt
Paa turen fra Las Vegas innsisterte jeg (Roar) paa a stikke innom Hoover Dam. Da det var paa vei mot Grand Canyon fikk vi med oss det i samme slengen. (To kryss paa " maa se lista vaar !"
Sep 20, 2004 - To Anahiem and the baseball
We had a bit of a lay in and then left San Diego to drive to Anaheim (not without getting lost first of course and driving past Sea World which was in completely the wrong direction). The drive was good and the journey was shorter than we had anticipated. We actually managed to drive to our hotel in Anaheim quicker than we drove from San Diego zoo to our San Diego hotel. We spent the afternoon just relaxing by the pool. In the evening we went to Edison Field to watch the Anaheim Angels play the Seattle Mariners. The Angels won 5-2.Jump to full entry
Sep 20, 2004 - LA & Vegas
Greetings once again, Well we arrived safely in Los Angeles after our 10hr flight from Fiji, feeling quite refreshed. Passport control and customs were suprisingly nice to us for a change and even let Phil take his New Zealand honey through the agricultural checkpoint. Our first adventure was trying to find the car hire place via a shuttle bus ride and then trying to tell the sales advisor that we didn't have a clue what insurance to have or even how to drive their automatic! Getting into the car, it took us 15 minutes to work out the...Jump to full entry
Sep 16, 2004 - Uploading photos / Dennys / Anaheim
Hey folks - got a few days to catch up with - so enjoy! This day was probably the quietest day we'd had! We woke up and headed up to a place we'd found in San Diego that let us upload photos. We had the upload marathon of our lives, whacking about 150 photos on over about 3 hours :-O! It was very boring and time-consuming so we hope you guys enjoy it! From there we grabbed the car, checked out of our hostel and boosted up the Interstate 5 (Motorway) to Anaheim, which is about 30 miles south of Los Angeles. For those that know... Anaheim is...Jump to full entry
Sep 12, 2004 - Flying to America.
Big day of flying today. We got the 6am shuttle to the airport for our 9.30 flight. At the airport Garry got some new sunglasses and we both bought some smellies. The flight to Auckland ended up taking of at 10.30 and we were worried about making our connection. However, the Air New Zealand flight was a good one and we arrived just in time for our 4.15 flight to Los Angeles. Boarding from Gate 10, the same gate we used last time we flew from Auckland, the first part of the flight was VERY turbulent, and food and drinks couldn't be served...Jump to full entry

Sep 2, 2004 - Goodbye UK! - Hello Los Angeles...
We got to Heathrow a little late (no suprises!!) to meet Helen and Gareth's family but after booking in we all calmed down! Before long it was time to say goodbye to our families and board the plane. Lots of photos were taken as we said goodbye! We hope Martin and Rachel didn't argue too much on the way back to Penzance!! The flight was very long and tiring. We saw Iceland, Greenland (Green?? It was covered in white snow!!) and bits of Canada, under the cloud. Canada looks a little naff!! Lots of rock and pools - didn't see any people. We...Jump to full entry
Aug 25, 2004 - Highway One
August 15th - 18th. San Fransisco to Los Angeles. Almost 400 miles of coastal driving. Hundreds of beaches. Beautiful towns and villages, often with a very Spanish feel due to the influence of the early missionaries. Spectacular views, strange country and western music and hundreds of highway motels. It was truly spectacular. Make sure you check out all the photos. Sunday August 15th. 17.30. San Fransisco airport, in the vast car-hire hall. We split up in different directions...our mission the same....find the best deal....and fast!...Jump to full entry
Aug 25, 2004 - Los Angeles
For all you new folks who signed up this week: welcome! You might want to check out last week's newsletter because it's more earth-shaking than this one - hey, it's hard to compete with a story about the world's longest flight (SIN-EWR). Now that you're all on board: Newark airport was where we left off. From there I took the bus into Manhattan. It made three short stops. I got off at the last one, Grand Central Terminal (GCT). There wasn't much traffic so it took just 40 minutes. Even better, the price was right: only $12. What's funny is...Jump to full entry
