Oct 9, 2004 - The Best Westerners

We were two young british girls having fun in New York City with no desire whatsoever to do a trek. If u haven't guessed its Sam and Jo. So arriving at the Hacienda Hotel in LA and seeing our double beds and the pool didn't help the situation. Trying to learn the other trekkers names and coming to terms with the fact that we had a woman leader after expecting a man we headed towards the pool for our last day of relaxation. Ingredients of our dream trek: 1. A gorgeous trek leader (male) 2. 11 other trekkers 3. Nice accomodation 4. Click our...

Oct 7, 2004 - San Francisco to Vancouver......via Anaheim!

Garry is known to be forgetful, it is part of what makes him so endearing! However, this was the Mother of all forgetfulness, leaving your passports behind, and not realising for 2 weeks and having to do a 600 mile detour to pick them up. Still, we rose above it, dealt with it, and today went about resolving the situation. We got to the airport early, and this was just as well as we were singled out for 'special interrogation' at the airport, apparently as we booked the one way tickets last minute. The flight was good, and the pre flight...

Oct 7, 2004 - Los Angeles

Los Angeles (October 1st-7th) I apologize in advance to this entry for any spelling mistakes due to typing at worp speed & being a stinky speller to begin with! LA was the perfect start to my adventure: very relaxing and chill. I stayed with Besty, one of my partners in crime from W&M. Since Betsy is a hot mama, aka a successful Assistant Producer at Channel 1, she was non stop working while I was visiting. So this was a good test to exploring a strange city on my own, and I even lucky enough to get a taste of what it would be like to be...

Gumpy's Adventure

Oct 6, 2004 - L.A.

Greetings! Last week we left off in Grand Haven, Michigan, during our lovely weekend getaway. Afterward, in the early afternoon, we drove back to Chicago. Our host (my cousin Sasha) talked us into eating lunch on the way home, rather than around the corner from her house. (That's not a good sign. Hmmm -- maybe she wanted to make sure we split town?) Sasha and her husband Mike raved about a restaurant called Redamak's. They said their burgers are worth the few extra miles (and the wait). So we put our hunger on the back burner for 90 minutes...

Where's Johnny Jet?

Oct 5, 2004 - La -again Edited By Emma (if Read Before 7/10/04)

"L.A ,L.A, L.A, we're going to L.A" that robbie williams track has been going round in my head ever since we got here. bet it took him ages to come up with the lyrics, NOT! speaking of sarcasm thats another anglocism that hasnt reached these shores yet, they just dont get it! When we were in Vegas, as we were coming out of the show there was a lady stood there saying 'photos on your right, on your right photos, looking for your photos? over on your right, on your right ladies and gentlemen please look at your photos, ooooooon the right -...

Sep 24, 2004 - L A paa godt og vondt

Paa turen fra Las Vegas innsisterte jeg (Roar) paa a stikke innom Hoover Dam. Da det var paa vei mot Grand Canyon fikk vi med oss det i samme slengen. (To kryss paa " maa se lista vaar !"

Sep 20, 2004 - LA & Vegas

Greetings once again, Well we arrived safely in Los Angeles after our 10hr flight from Fiji, feeling quite refreshed. Passport control and customs were suprisingly nice to us for a change and even let Phil take his New Zealand honey through the agricultural checkpoint. Our first adventure was trying to find the car hire place via a shuttle bus ride and then trying to tell the sales advisor that we didn't have a clue what insurance to have or even how to drive their automatic! Getting into the car, it took us 15 minutes to work out the...

Sep 20, 2004 - To Anahiem and the baseball

We had a bit of a lay in and then left San Diego to drive to Anaheim (not without getting lost first of course and driving past Sea World which was in completely the wrong direction). The drive was good and the journey was shorter than we had anticipated. We actually managed to drive to our hotel in Anaheim quicker than we drove from San Diego zoo to our San Diego hotel. We spent the afternoon just relaxing by the pool. In the evening we went to Edison Field to watch the Anaheim Angels play the Seattle Mariners. The Angels won 5-2.

Sep 16, 2004 - Uploading photos / Dennys / Anaheim

Hey folks - got a few days to catch up with - so enjoy! This day was probably the quietest day we'd had! We woke up and headed up to a place we'd found in San Diego that let us upload photos. We had the upload marathon of our lives, whacking about 150 photos on over about 3 hours :-O! It was very boring and time-consuming so we hope you guys enjoy it! From there we grabbed the car, checked out of our hostel and boosted up the Interstate 5 (Motorway) to Anaheim, which is about 30 miles south of Los Angeles. For those that know... Anaheim is...

Sep 12, 2004 - Flying to America.

Big day of flying today. We got the 6am shuttle to the airport for our 9.30 flight. At the airport Garry got some new sunglasses and we both bought some smellies. The flight to Auckland ended up taking of at 10.30 and we were worried about making our connection. However, the Air New Zealand flight was a good one and we arrived just in time for our 4.15 flight to Los Angeles. Boarding from Gate 10, the same gate we used last time we flew from Auckland, the first part of the flight was VERY turbulent, and food and drinks couldn't be served...

Howdy Folks! I'm Back!! Well, I made a 10 hour Greyhound bus journey from Tucson, Arizona to San Pedro, California, and it wasn't as bad as I thought that it was going to be! Yup there were some not too nice people (I kept such a beedy eye on them it was unbelivable! TRUST NO ONE!)but on the whole it was alright, just v.v.v.v.v.xinfinity tiring! Anyway, the hostel I'm in is great. It's right on the coast overlooking the pacific ocean (ooh, get me!) I'm staying in a dorm, again, meant for 16 peeps and ther's only 4 maybe 5!! Oh well, more...
