Sep 12, 2004 - Flying to America.
Big day of flying today. We got the 6am shuttle to the airport for our 9.30 flight. At the airport Garry got some new sunglasses and we both bought some smellies. The flight to Auckland ended up taking of at 10.30 and we were worried about making our connection. However, the Air New Zealand flight was a good one and we arrived just in time for our 4.15 flight to Los Angeles. Boarding from Gate 10, the same gate we used last time we flew from Auckland, the first part of the flight was VERY turbulent, and food and drinks couldn't be served...Jump to full entry
Sep 11, 2004 - L.A. baby!
Howdy Folks, I'm back again!! Have had a fantastic day touring Los Angeles, thanks to some nice Norwegians! Originally, nobody would take me cos I was on my own (yup it's that ol chestnut AGAIN!) But, I got talking to these 2 Norwegian girls, Inges and Torve, who said that they were thinking of going on Monday, but seeing as they were here till Weds and I only had today, then they said they'd go with me. BONUS! JOY! We were picked up at 9am, and after picking up a few other peeps, he then got straight on with the tour of L.A. We saw all of...Jump to full entry

Howdy Folks! I'm Back!! Well, I made a 10 hour Greyhound bus journey from Tucson, Arizona to San Pedro, California, and it wasn't as bad as I thought that it was going to be! Yup there were some not too nice people (I kept such a beedy eye on them it was unbelivable! TRUST NO ONE!)but on the whole it was alright, just v.v.v.v.v.xinfinity tiring! Anyway, the hostel I'm in is great. It's right on the coast overlooking the pacific ocean (ooh, get me!) I'm staying in a dorm, again, meant for 16 peeps and ther's only 4 maybe 5!! Oh well, more...Jump to full entry
Sep 2, 2004 - Goodbye UK! - Hello Los Angeles...
We got to Heathrow a little late (no suprises!!) to meet Helen and Gareth's family but after booking in we all calmed down! Before long it was time to say goodbye to our families and board the plane. Lots of photos were taken as we said goodbye! We hope Martin and Rachel didn't argue too much on the way back to Penzance!! The flight was very long and tiring. We saw Iceland, Greenland (Green?? It was covered in white snow!!) and bits of Canada, under the cloud. Canada looks a little naff!! Lots of rock and pools - didn't see any people. We...Jump to full entry
Aug 25, 2004 - Highway One
August 15th - 18th. San Fransisco to Los Angeles. Almost 400 miles of coastal driving. Hundreds of beaches. Beautiful towns and villages, often with a very Spanish feel due to the influence of the early missionaries. Spectacular views, strange country and western music and hundreds of highway motels. It was truly spectacular. Make sure you check out all the photos. Sunday August 15th. 17.30. San Fransisco airport, in the vast car-hire hall. We split up in different directions...our mission the same....find the best deal....and fast!...Jump to full entry
Aug 25, 2004 - Los Angeles
For all you new folks who signed up this week: welcome! You might want to check out last week's newsletter because it's more earth-shaking than this one - hey, it's hard to compete with a story about the world's longest flight (SIN-EWR). Now that you're all on board: Newark airport was where we left off. From there I took the bus into Manhattan. It made three short stops. I got off at the last one, Grand Central Terminal (GCT). There wasn't much traffic so it took just 40 minutes. Even better, the price was right: only $12. What's funny is...Jump to full entry
Aug 24, 2004 - Los Angeles
Did all the usual touristy stuff in LA, including Sunset Strip, Hollywood Boulevard and the Hollywood sign, Walk of Fame and Venice Beach. We even went to the pictures to see what they would be like...same as home! Saw a couple of minor celebs on Sunset strip but other than that found LA to be a large sprawling bland place. 4 days was enough for us to recharge our batteries, get the laundry done and prepare for the South Pacific :-)Jump to full entry
Aug 15, 2004 - A new journal and a new trip on the horizon
Well, I am at home in Los Angeles, anticipating a trip to Cancun, Mexico, in the Yucatan Penninsula of Central America. I will be going out there for a month and a half for a show to be titled "Gilligan's Island" (original, huh?). I am really excited to go down there because I have been planning my own personal trip to Central America for at least four years now. I am really interested in Mayan archeology and I have been writing a script that is centered around certain "amazing" archeological discoveries found in Guatamala and the Yucatan....Jump to full entry
Aug 10, 2004 - Last leg of our trip...
So here we are, in London's Heathrow Airport, in the same internet cafe we made our first post from and we're quite excited to be getting home. We had no problems getting thru to London and had a quiet night at Mark's house. We have a couple of hours to kill here in the airport before our flight at noon. We will be arriving in Los Angeles at 3pm, short flight huh? :) See you all soon, Jon & ShellyJump to full entry
Aug 8, 2004 - Los Angeles
Can't believe we are at the airport waiting to fly to Hawaii. Both a bit jaded after 2 flights from Costa Rica. Quick stop over night in LA where we managed to blow our budget on Sushi and then grub from the supermarket as we were starving. See what happens when we get back to civilisation. So Aloha for now....Jump to full entry
Jul 19, 2004 - California - Los Angeles, Universal Studios
Jul 15, 2004 - The Longest Day - part 2: California - Los Angeles, USA
Aankomst in de ochtend van de avond waarop wij uit New Zealand vertrokken! Wie zei daar dat je een dag niet over kon doen? Wij kunnen dat dus wel! Back to the future. Nog voor we die ride in Universal Studios konden maken. Ook deze vlucht van 12 uur slapen de kinderen en Marianne nauwelijks, gewoontegetrouw pak ik ruim 5 uur slaap mee. 'T is niet eerlijk. We komen aan in Long Beach. Een van de vele steden, deelgemeenten zo u wenst, van L.A. Het internationale vliegveld en de grootste haven van Amerika liggen hier. LA heeft zelf 3,5 miljoen...Jump to full entry
