Jan 29, 2010 - Another Glorious Day
Early this morning, before it was daylight, when John got up, he called me to come and look at the ocean. The full moon was setting and the moonglow on the ocean was so incredibly beautiful. I wish we could be able to capture it in a picture. There was only one small wave washing up on the beach so it was very serene. -- When I got up, much later, there was lots of blue sky and puffy white clouds floating around. Off in the distance, I could see a tug boat towing a barge in and there was a bank of dark fog sitting out beyond that. John...Jump to full entry
Jan 27, 2010 - The Beach is Back
This morning I was greeted with sunshine streaming in through the back window once again - my favorite way to be awakened. John was giving me weather updates as he came and went all morning. By the time I crawled out of bed, he was already outside sitting in his lawn chair, soaking up sunshine too. It was a beautiful morning, not quite as warm as it was before the storms last week, but pretty damn nice any way. -- Last nite, we got new neighbors, Gary and Cheryl from Fairfield. They will be staying two weeks. -- While we were enjoying...Jump to full entry
Jan 22, 2010 - We Make a Run for Town!
This morning, John woke me up at the crack of 8 to let me know that there was a break in the seemingly unending rain. We needed to go into town to do laundry and get some groceries and since it is supposed to be fairly nice this weekend, and we didn't want to waste a nice day in town, so we decided to book it into town this morning. -- The one great bonus of all the rain Southern California has received is that the foothills all around us have literally burst into emerald green colors just in the past week. The color is so crisp and...Jump to full entry
Jan 20, 2010 - Rockin' and Rollin'
Today was the first full day we have spent at the beach in a heavy storm. The ocean was angry but the waves were surprisingly calm. They were breaking way out and the shore was all foam. We had heavy rain and extreme winds up until about two o'clock when John said that he could see blue sky. What? No way! But sure enough, there was a break in the storm and we were able to peek out and see how everything had survived. -- When we were here two years ago, the winds drove us off of the hill to a spot down lower. Last night and today, the winds...Jump to full entry
Jan 19, 2010 - The Coast is Clear!
After a restless night and an early start, we got the test behind us and everything turned out just fine, which is always a relief. John was a good Nurse Kratchit, which is good because it is his turn next week. -- When we left for the clinic before daylight, it was not raining. By the time we headed onto the freeway back to the beach, however, the rain was back again. Going over the hills to the beach was tricky with extremely heavy winds. We were wondering if our rig and kitties would still be sitting on the hill, but everything was fine...Jump to full entry
Jan 18, 2010 - Just Checking In
John and I are able to cross off the last items on our TO DO list. We both have to have . . . colonoscopies! I told John you know that it is true love when you share having colonoscopies together. I get to go first, so to speak. So, today, we came into Santa Barbara and got a motel room just around the corner from the clinic where tomorrow, hopefully, everything will come out fine for me. Then, next week, John will get to do the same thing. (Sorry for the puns) It isn't pleasant to do, talk about or think about, but it is a necessity for us...Jump to full entry
Jan 15, 2010 - Another Weekend Already
I haven't posted a daily journal this week, because frankly, there just isn't a lot going on to tell about. We have been enjoying the view which changes every day. Some days, the ocean is calm and blue and others it is angry and grey. It is always beautiful and mesmerizing. We watch the birds and the surfers and the campers come and go. -- We have enjoyed visiting with Sue and Manuel. Sue and I take turns fixing dinners which is a nice change. They will be going home next Tuesday. -- We have enjoyed walking down to the point on the beach...Jump to full entry
Jan 11, 2010 - Misc Beach Pix
Today is chore day, so we came into town to do laundry, grocery shopping, post office, delicious lunch at the local favorite, Walmart drugs, phone calls and computer updates. I will post a bunch of beach pix from the last several days. -- We continue to visit with Sue and Manuel and walk on the beach, etc. The weather has been perfect but the weather guessers are predicting a change coming mid-week. It would be cool to be able to watch a big storm. -- This morning, we said goodbye to our neighbors, Paula and Bob. We have enjoyed visiting...Jump to full entry
Jan 9, 2010 - We Did It!
For the past couple of mornings, since Manuel has arrived, we have been walking on the beach with him around 10:00 am, when the tide was going out. Today, we finally made it all the way down to the first point where all the surfers go. It was overcast with shades of lavendars and greys again - one of my favorites. It looked like it should be cold with the overcast but it was very balmy. -- The waves were spectacular and probably around 15 feet tall at the point. Most of the surfers who passed us were jogging by with their boards, in a...Jump to full entry
Jan 8, 2010 - Yeaaaaa John!
John received an email notification that he and his partner, Mark, won Fantasy Football for the second year in a row. I guess all those Sundays spent with John glued to the football stats was worth it. Congrats, guys. -- We had another perfect beautiful day at the beach. I know. Boring!Jump to full entry
Jan 7, 2010 - Another Day
It is just past lunch time and I am sitting at my dining table trying to post some pictures on the slow internet connection. Out my window, all I can see is the deep blue of the bay in front of us. The ocean is calm with just one wave breaking at a time. The color of the water in the waves is turquoise. There is no wind. The temp gauge has crept up to just below 80 degrees. The paper said today that the wind chill factor in North Dakota yesterday was -50 degrees. Have I mentioned how happy we are to be here? -- We walked on the beach early...Jump to full entry
Jan 5, 2010 - Oh No! More Beach Pictures!!
I told John that we really do not need to take pictures every day of the same old beach and the same old sunset. We really don't. But then . . . today's sunset was so spectacular. The ocean today was a deep blue rather than a turquoise. How can you NOT take pictures? Plus, we are able to access our neighbor's internet connection today from inside our rig, so why not post some pictures. Note, I said "some". We actually took 43 pictures today, but I will restrain myself and try to only post some of them. So, if you are tired of the same old...Jump to full entry
