Oct 16, 2018 - Lodi Tuesday

Pacific Gas and Electric was so afraid of their equipment starting another massive fire with the high winds forecast yesterday that they proactively shut off the power to about 60,000 residents in the Napa and foothills areas (we in the Central Valley were not impacted). As of tonight, the power is still out to about 10,000. We haven’t heard of any new fires this week, so I guess it worked. And in our winter home in Kerrville, Texas, historic flooding is just devastating the Hill Country. It made the national news tonight. Someone from down...

Oct 14, 2018 - Lodi, Sunday

We’ve had ideal weather every day we’ve been here so far. Sunny and low 80’s, with just a slight breeze. Wednesday night around 7:30pm while we were watching TV, we suddenly lost all our power (right in the middle of a Game of Thrones episode). We checked outside, and the outage covered the whole neighborhood, including the very busy truck stop intersections. We have several batteries, so our 12 volt interior lights still worked. But many rigs were completely in the dark. Bev and Verle came over for supper on Thursday. I just threw some...

Oct 10, 2018 - Lodi, Wednesday

Monday morning, we finished setting everything up for our stay here. We are in the delta area of California. Lodi has loads of vineyards and almond orchards. We went over to Bev and Verle’s place in the afternoon (they are about 20 miles north of us, near Sacramento) and went out to dinner. Mo got to meet their big chocolate Lab, Murphy, but neither dog was very impressed with the other. We went back over there yesterday morning, and Verle drove us up into the foothills, where there are dozens of farms selling fresh produce, lavender,...

Oct 7, 2018 - Lodi, CA

This fourth day of driving really got to us. The traffic once we came down the mountains was much worse than the last time we were here. We purposefully came in on Sunday, believing traffic would be lighter. It also didn’t help that all the rest areas west of Reno were closed. And the High Wind Warning meant Bill had to keep a firm grip on the wheel. But we finally made it! Our other mistake was telling the campground office that we wanted the weekly rate. Instead of the nice pull thru section we usually get to stay in, we were put in the...

Aug 6, 2017 - NV Boom or Bust

August 3-4, 2017 Nevada – Boom or Bust After spending the night at an overpriced RV park called BNB Swiss in Cedar City, UT, I headed west into Nevada. My first stop was in Caliente, which turned out to be a pleasant little town. I ventured a couple of miles north to the Kershaw-Ryan State Park and boom, it was beautiful. I found a shady spot to park, stopped by the clean restroom, and then hiked the short Canyon Overlook loop, watching for snakes along the way. As I was headed back to Wanda, two employees were moving the water hoses, so I...

Oct 9, 2016 - Pavement Rehabilitation?!

I think a CHP car came through last night and I know one did this morning after I got up. When I went to bed last night we noticed a fly on the ceiling. It wasn’t moving. Margie got up and discovered it was dead. I guess it died of old age and just hung to the ceiling. Either that or we scared it to death. Today we stopped for lunch at another casino. It’s amazing how they keep popping up right around lunch time. This one was Rolling Mills in Corning, California. It has fuel, an RV resort and a nice RV/truck parking area. We both got $10...

Sep 26, 2016 - Lodi California

Spent a couple days at the Lodi Elks before heading to Yosemite National Park to meet friends Mike and Irene. We explored some wineries and local eats and then left. Found out later we had friends who live there. Darn, it would have been fun to spend time with them there.

A Lifetime's Dream

Sep 27, 2015 - Lodi CA – Flag City RV Park

Stayed in this great Passport America park for one night while travelling in California. It happened to be the same night as the total eclipse of the Supermoon (aka Blood Moon). Luckily for us, the clouds cleared and we were able to see the eclipse. It was pretty neat and, since we were on Pacific Daylight time, it happened in the evening instead of the middle of the night. Usually, we’re fast asleep when a lunar eclipse happens.

Headed to Lodi (3 hour run over the Sierra's) with Greg & Ginny (2 rigs) and stayed at Flag City RV Park. Very nice CG to HQ while visiting some wineries and enjoying some tasting in the area. Friends Don & Lucienne from Reno joined us on Saturday staying with G&G in their rig. We also did some dining and visited specialty shops in the downtown area. Found a great Cheese Shop that carried some Wisconsin product which we enjoyed. Time flies and we all headed back to Reno on...

Aug 4, 2014 - Finally on our way to South Dakota

We left Bakersfield around 1100 am after having a good bye breakfast with, Shaun, Melissa, Lily and Mary. Got to Flag City RV Resort in Lodi around 3:30 pm. Nice RV park just off the I-5, but the noise is not to bad. Clean pool and jacuzzi. Nice laundry. $45 with our Escapee membership. 85 degrees and cloudy. Maureen came and picked up Lily to spend a week with her dad. Now we are making pizza.

Jun 27, 2014 - OTRA - CA - Lodi

I'm trying like mad to get this blog caught up and I'm a year behind so I'll just put comments on our "travel sheet" in with no yakkity-yak until we get more up-to-date, okay? Bad Penny; bad, bad Penny!! N on I-5 then CA12 towards Lodi. Easy drive, sunny day. Light wind. Heavy traffic until past Stockton then not too bad. Slow up for what they call the "Cone Zone" (work areas) Small river but big ships in Stockton. Lots and lots of birds to wake up to as opposed to jets in Vegas Cool nights, warm days HUGE dog run area!!! Went to tail end...
