Nov 29, 2016 - A day of sunshine

It was cold and clear in Red Bluff last night, so it was a bit brisk this morning. We might be in California, but you still need a coat. We got underway at 0830, in the bright sunshine. A nice day to travel, and the other drivers were very polite today. We had a fuel stop at Dunmire, as there is a big truck stop there. And boy was it busy. But Spike picked a good lane, and we were done pretty quickly. Zoey got a quick walk in and we were on our way again. Today we had to get through Sacramento and Stockton. Jan 10, 2016 - A bumpy day on I-5 Southbound

Our day did not start off very well, as 1 block out of the RV park when someone jumped the light and tried to pass us on the right. This is as we were making a legal left hand turn with the green light. I saw them before Spike, and yelled, and they barely missed us. They did not bat an eye, just kept moving. When you think of desert I certainly don't think of snow. At that point we knew we'd be too tire to make it all the way to Oakland. I called Navy Lodging and was able to get a two room suite for $40 for the night at NAS Lemoore. My first duty station in the Navy in 1971 was Naval Air Station Lemoore, CA. It still is in the middle of nowhere. (175 miles from LA and SF,...

Dec 14, 2007 - Naval Air Station, Lemoore then Fresno

Friday, December 14th consisted of driving across the CA desert and up CA-99 through Bakersfield and picking CA-198 at Visalia through Hanford to Naval Air Station Lemoore. When I was stationed here in the early 1970's, CA-198 was a two lane road. Its now expanded to four lanes and divided highway through Hanford. When I was stationed here I had to go to Fresno to buy my car and now there are many dealerships in Hanford and Lemoore, with a shopping mall in Hanford. Now you are asking yourself "WHERE IS LEMOORE?" We are staying at the Navy...
