Oct 10, 2014 - Crescent City to Redwood River RV Resort

Day 14: Todays stop was going to be in Eureka but after we drove pass the only good RV Park we decided to keep going to one we found on google again, it looked nice of the website and it turned out to be the one I like the most out of every park we have stayed in this whole trip so far. It was so beautiful and we took the nice walk down the hill to the river as well. Being Autumn here it wasn't running very fast but after Winter it gets pretty full and by Summer it turns into a nice swimming area. The drive up to here was really nice as...

Jun 17, 2014 - Leggett Attractions and Return to PCH

Yesterday we visited a couple of Leggett’s local attractions. First we visited the Chandelier Tree, one of the three drive thru trees in the redwoods. Although I find these trees gimmicky we went because the park has some trails that allow Annie. We did some hiking and spent some time just sitting by the small lake at the facility. On the way back to the campground we stopped across the street at Confusion Hill. We opted out of paying to enter the hill area but spent a little time in the gift shop and in the parking lot. The major feature...

Jun 14, 2014 - Interesting Neighborhood

This part of California has an interesting reputation and this is an interesting time to be here. We knew when we arrived that the Redwood Run, a motorcycle rally, was scheduled for this weekend. We have a number of motorcyclists now in the campground. Many are in tents and a few are staying in cabins. We had been warned that they would be out late and that we could expect noise around 2 a.m. But we have not experienced any of that. They have been good neighbors and, aside from the inevitable motorcycle noise, they have been quiet...

Jun 11, 2014 - Let's Get Out of the Heat

After returning from the mountains we have had several more 100 plus days to deal with. We spent one afternoon in a movie theater and have done some light shopping. It’s time to get out of this triple-digit heat. We packed up this morning and headed north on I-5 and then west on California 20. The fifty miles north on the 5 showed us more of the farmland in this valley that claims the title of “breadbasket to the world.” But when we turned onto 20 there were hills directly ahead and, after about ten miles, the road began to curve. We...

Jun 15, 2012 - Bandon,"Coolest Small Town"

In 2010 Bandon was named one of the "Coolest Small Towns in America" by Budget Travel. We found this statement to be so true today as we visited Bandon Or. We don’t stop in many tourist towns, but this one caught our eye. It is located on the southern Oregon coast at the mouth of the Coquille River. The town is perfect for walking, and has a large number of restaurants and nice shops. We visited the Myrtle wood Gallery: No pun intended but I was a HAPPY CAMPER in that store!! It was wonderful: Description of Myrtle Wood: Oregon Myrtle...

Jun 14, 2012 - Salmon Harbor and Special Photo

We have been here at the Salmon Harbor RV Park for almost a month and began to feel like we have homesteaded the place. We have been very satisfied with this campground; we enjoy looking across the small Smith river then out into the ocean. There are times like today with 30 mile an hour wind that we are glad we are not right down on the beach. The price for the month was only $300. plus a $50. electric deposit, we were told that we may receive some of that back. Wow what a great price for the Ca. coast line, and having a great view of the...

Jun 12, 2012 - Cape Blanco Lighthouse, Port Orford Or.

We had another great day on our trip to Port Orford. We stopped at several beach overviews along the way. I am not usually a big fan of the beach because of the heat and the sticky feeling of the air. As you have noticed we have had on coats or jackets and there is not a feeling of being sticky or hot. We are enjoying the coast line. We visited Cape Blanco Lighthouse it is the oldest standing lighthouse on the Oregon coast: commissioned in 1870 to aid shipping generated by gold mining and lumber industry. We also enjoyed touring the 1898...

Jun 11, 2012 - Back to Klamath Overlook

We enjoyed looking for whales so much; we went back to the Klamath River Overlook. We saw lots of grey whale feeding at the mouth of the river. (No good pictures.) Bob is the one that can spot them first, but I got lucky today, I had the binoculars in just the right place as one rolled, and then slapped the water with his tail. Wow they are huge! We then drove threw the Klamath Coastal Scenic drive; it was used in the 1890’s for a stagecoach road. It was a beautiful winding road threw the redwood and along the coast line overlooking the...

Jun 9, 2012 - Harris Beach, Brookings Oregon

Our first visit to Harris Beach State Park was in the rain and fog; it was very pretty, but very hard to get good pictures. We returned to the park on a bright sunshiny day, we were so surprised at how pretty and blue the water and the shy was. We enjoyed all of the birds in the area. Bird Island is a national wildlife sanctuary and breeding site for birds. We also had a little visitor to come up to us as we were leaving,I though he came out of the high grass, Bob told me latter that it was a man's pet. I though he sure was friendly!!!! We...

Jun 9, 2012 - Gold Beach Or.

We have been to Gold Beach several times, we love this little town. We have met some of the nicest people here. I always wonder how a town got it name, especially with a name like Gold Beach. Here is what I found out. The community took on the name of Gold Beach after hundreds of mines extracted gold near the mouth of the river. That made us want to get a pan and start looking!!! I am always looking for something interesting to take pictures of; I saw the bridge over the Rouge River at the end of the port. I knew this would make a great...

Jun 9, 2012 - St George Reef, Lighthouse

As we travel up the coast line we have enjoyed visiting the different lighthouses and learning their history. Hear at Salmon Harbor RV Park we can see something out in the ocean that looked like a light house, so we started asking questions. It is a light house, what we found out has been the most interesting lighthouse of all. Most are located along the shore line with a beautiful setting and great view of the beach. Well this one don’t have a beautiful setting just a GREAT view of the ocean. It sits on top of a reef, or on top of a rock...
