Mar 29, 2016 - Dos Reis

Well, The Cold put up a good fight yesterday and last night, pretty much making my life miserable. Thank goodness for Nyquil. It really does help because it knocks you out, but it makes me feel like I have a hangover the next morning. But, I actually feel much better this evening after a good snooze last night and this afternoon. -- I did not want to get up early this morning, but today was travel day. We moved north, back diagonally across California. We took Pacheco Pass over the Coast Range. I have driven this route so many times I know...

Mar 28, 2014 - Inspiration in the Night

I've always been a night owl, like my mother before me, and my son after me. I like to stay up late, sometimes into the wee hours of the morning. I have even been known to head to bed just as John is getting up in those wee hours of the morning. Accordingly, some of my best inspiration comes to me in the middle of the night, like tonight. I went to bed at a regular time, but when I awoke at 2:00 am, I could hear dogs barking, and there is no way I can go back to sleep. What better time to catch up on my blogging. -- Usually, I write my...

Pretty Damn Nice!

May 7, 2012 - Food and Family

For the past week, we have basically dropped out of sight and sound. On Monday morning, we made a short trip to the Lathrop area where we stayed at the Dos Reis Regional Park. It is a small county park that is very pretty, way off the beaten path, with no cable or WiFi; a perfect getaway place, as if we needed to get away! Actually, the reason we stayed there is that it is in close proximity to where my brother Gene and his wife, Sally, live in Ceres. In fact, Dos Reis was the first park we traveled to with our first RV and Gene came over...

Apr 17, 2012 - More About The Dos Reis Park

Lathrop, CA. 54 deg. clear, no wind. Forecast = Partly cloudy. High of 73F. Winds from the WNW at 5 to 15 mph. While Linda was doing some laundry, Jim was out and about taking some photos and talking to some nice RVers who were staying here at the Dos Reis Regional Park. This 1st photo is what you see as you look off to the left as you enter the CG section. The 5th wheel that you see in the photo belongs to a full-timing couple who are heading up to the Escapees Park in Sutherlin, OR. It's on a site that is probably one of the longest sites...

Apr 16, 2012 - Wandering Farther North

Lathrop, CA. 47 deg. clear, no wind. Forecast = Partly cloudy. High of 73F. Winds from the West at 5 to 15 mph. Being that I didn't have a sewer hookup at my site on the river, (none of the sites right along the river have sewer hookup), we had to stop at the dump station on our way out of the park. So, by the time Jim was done with that, it was about 10:25 before we pulled out. From the park, we headed back to CA 99 and then headed NW on it for about 35 miles where we turned West on Rt. 152. 152 is a 4 lane road that took us over to I-5,...

Oct 8, 2011 - Lazy Day

We didn’t do much of anything today except go to a movie. We hit the 1:30 showing of Real Steel with Hugh Jackman. It’s about huge boxing robots and was very good. It was kind of like the Rocky Movie, exciting and sentimental. It was kind of nice not having to do anything or go anywhere. Even Carolyn agreed with that.

Oct 7, 2011 - Yea -- Sunshine :)

It was so nice to wake up to sunshine today. I can’t remember the last time we did that. It is supposed to shine all day and be in the mid 60’s. We have a 150 mile trip today, but it is all on Interstate 5 going farther south into California. We saw our first palm trees yesterday. We haven’t seen any of those for quite some time. We drove through farm ground all day. We saw fields of trees including newly planted fields that must have had ten’s of thousands of new trees. They look to be olive trees. We also passed fields of corn, wheat,...
