Mar 31, 2017 - Mission accomplished

Lancaster, CA Not being able to resist the call of the wildflowers, we ventured out again on some country roads to take in more of the beauty of the desert. Because conditions are not quite right, this is not a super bloom year as were 2008 and 2010. Imagine what those years must have been like! We were definitely not the only ones to succumb to the call. There were lots of other folks out frolicking in the flowers and as enthralled with the beauty as we. We have now accomplished our goal of finding the motherlode of poppies and we saw a...

Mar 30, 2017 - Poppies! Poppies! Poppies!

Lancaster, CA Today we found the poppies! Lancaster, CA is in Antelope Valley. Antelope Valley has fantastic conditions for the Mexican Gold Poppy also called the California poppy - state flower of California. It seems silly to have a state flower that blooms for such a brief time and is so elusive until you have seen vast carpets of the amazing colors. The poppy is also called Cup of Gold with good reason. Although Sandi had tried to explain it, Jim was dumbfounded when he saw the displays on the hillsides. It is breathtakingly beautiful....

Mar 29, 2017 - California here we come

Lancaster, CA London Bridge is in Lake Havasu City, Arizona. A 90-minute walking tour provides lots of information about the bridge. It was built in the 1830s and formerly spanned the River Thames in London, England. It was dismantled in 1967; each stone block was numbered, shipped to Lake Havasu City and reassembled. The vintage lamps on the bridge are made from melted down cannons of Napoleon Bonaparte’s army. One of the more grisly periods of the bridge’s history was at the southern gateway between 1305 and 1660, when it was customary to...

Nov 2, 2016 - Pumpkin Stew or We're Trapped!!

Wednesday 2 One day last week while the pumpkin patch was still open a lady in line told Margie a recipe using a pumpkin. The recipe requires a pumpkin that you put stew in and then bake it. Margie bought a small pumpkin that night. Of course, she got the 20% employee discount. If she had asked I'm sure she could have gotten it for free but she didn't. Today she made beef stew and put it in the frig for later. We found a Barnes and Noble bookstore for Margie to find a couple of books she read about. We also went to Lowes to get a...

Nov 1, 2016 - You Mean We Get to Ride the Rides. OH BOY!!

Thursday 27 We got a call from one of the managers after the Pumpkin Patch closed asking us to cover some motors on the Bungee Jump because of rain. He said he would adjust our time for doing it. Margie jumped on the trampolines after covering the motors. I had taken a soda to drink with some left over pizza after we closed. This task took us about 15 minutes. I sent him a message that Margie said her pay was getting to jump on the trampoline and mine was the soda. So, he didn’t owe us any time. One morning Margie saw one of the rabbits...

Oct 25, 2016 - Me with a Phone Booth and no Superman Costume

Wednesday 19 This is our third day off. We are off today because we worked almost 60 hours last week. We are on salary and supposed to work about 50 hours per week. Since we started working as soon as we got here and worked 7 days we went a little over. Thursday 20 I can’t remember anything exciting happening except for maybe the remote ticket booth being put together. It appears that this will be my ticket booth when we have large enough crowds. I will only be selling tickets, drinks, and socks for those that don’t have them on and want...

Oct 12, 2016 - Cock-a-doodle-doo

Monday 10 Today is our longest day driving about 330 miles. There weren’t any casinos along our way, especially at a time for lunch so we made better time and arrived in Lancaster, California at the Pumpkin Patch we will be working at just after 4pm. I had to maneuver the motor home into a very tight area behind an inflatable ride and inside a fenced in area. After lowering the jacks onto two 4 X 4s the rear tires are about six inches off the ground in order for the RV to be level. I really don’t like it that high just sitting on 4 X 4s....

Jul 8, 2014 - Lancaster Bound !

We decided when we left Redding that we would take a couple of days to get down to Lancaster. The trip was 525 + miles, but we just wanted to make the trip as relaxing as possible. We stopped & spent a night in Santa Nella Village (at Santa Nella RV Park). On day two, we drove the remaining miles. We are staying at the Elks Lodge here (as always). We are here to visit with our kids & grandkids. There will be sleep overs with the grandkids & we'll be taking in Six Flags Magic Mountain with all 5 of them (along with Rob, Jodi & big Rich)....
